A revista Ficheiro Epigráfico é um suplemento da revista Conimbriga e destina-se a dar a conhecer inscrições romanas inéditas da Hispânia. Não tem periodicidade estipulada.Estuda-se o fragmento de laje de lioz com parte de uma inscrição romana, localizado, em Dezembro de 2016, no adro da igreja quinhentista de São Bartolomeu (Castanheira do Ribatejo, Vila Franca de Xira, distrito de Santarém). Lê-se apenas C // IVLIVS (hedera), em capital quadrada do início do Império. Apesar de fragmentária, a epígrafe, decerto proveniente da próxima villa de Subserra, constitui mais um elemento a mostrar a pujança dessa villa logo nos primórdios da ocupação romana, na sequência do que, de resto, já se conhecia da sua prosperidade na Idade do Ferro e, até, na época dos Fenícios

Controlo da dor: aplicação do Toque Terapêutico num doente com ferida maligna

Dados do Instituto Nacional de Estatística no período de 2009-2011, destacam o cancro como a segunda causa de morte em Portugal logo atrás das doenças cardiovasculares. A ferida oncológica ou maligna constitui uma importante preocupação dos enfermeiros no controlo dos sinais e sintomas que delas resultam nomeadamente a dor, o exsudado, a hemorragia, a infeção, o prurido, e a necrose tecidular. O seu difícil controlo interfere na qualidade de vida da pessoa e família. A literatura tem demonstrado evidência no Toque Terapêutico (TT) como uma intervenção não farmacológica com eficácia no alívio e controlo da dor oncológica, quando associado a medidas farmacológicas já instituídas

Citizen Science and Biological Invasions: A Review

Biological invasions are among the most challenging ecological and conservation riddles of our times. Fortunately, citizen science projects became a valuable tool to detect non-indigenous species (NIS), document their spread, prevent dispersion, and eradicate localized populations. We evaluated the most undisputed definitions of citizen science and proposed that a combination of two of them is a better reflection of what citizen science has become. Thus, citizen science is any environmental and/or biological data collection and analysis, including data quality control, undertaken by members of the general public, as individuals or as organized groups of citizens, with the guidance and/or assistance of scientists toward solving environmental and/or community questions. With this review, we also assessed how citizen science has been advancing biological invasions research and its focus, by analyzing 126 peer-reviewed articles that used citizen science methods or data concerning NIS. Most of the articles studied terrestrial species (68%) and terrestrial plants were the most studied group (22.7%). Surprisingly, most first detection reports were of non-indigenous marine fish probably due to the constraints in accessing aquatic ecosystems which delays the detection of new NIS. Citizen science projects running over broad geographical areas are very cost-effective for the early detection of NIS, regardless of the studied environment. We also discuss the applicability and need to adapt the methods and approaches toward the studied ecosystem and species, but also the profile of the participating citizens, their motivations, level of engagement, or social status. We recommend authors to better acknowledge the work done by contributing citizens, and the putative limitations of data generated by citizen science projects. The outreach planning of citizen science projects is also evaluated, including the use of dedicated web platforms vs. pre-existent and disseminated web platforms, while discussing how such outreach actions can be maximized. Lastly, we present a framework that contextualizes the contributions of citizen science, scientific research, and regional and national stakeholders toward the integrated management of biological invasions.FCT: SFRH/BD/140556/2018/ UIDB/04326/2020info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Development of biosensors for molecular analysis

Tese dout., Ciências Biotecnológicas, Universidade do Algarve, 2007This thesis deals with the application of piezoelectric sensors, namely quartz crystal microbalances (QCM), for the study of molecular interactions and for biomedical purposes. Piezoelectric transduction allows the detection of biorecognition events and its operation depends on the mechanical vibration of the crystal whose resonance frequency is sensible to surface mass changes. But in liquid medium these sensors also respond to the properties of solutions and adsorbed films. Thus, a major aspect explored in this thesis is the expansion of the physical understanding of the behavior of these sensors in liquid medium and also how organic or biological layers can affect the results and their interpretation. This was achieved using impedance analysis where the behavior of the piezoelectric sensor is interpreted with the help of equivalent electric RLC circuits. The potential electroacoustic interference of charged species in solution was particularly studied and a new equivalent circuit is proposed in order to detect and quantify these effects with the assistance of impedance analysis. The efficiency of the key steps taken for the development of our QCM system, was experimentally demonstrated with the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the process of ii 11-hydroxy-1-undecanothiol SAMs (self-assembled monolayers) formation and the recognition of streptavidin in aqueous medium using biotin modified sensors. Finally the work was focused on the development of a new detection tool for the HIV1 virus using piezoelectric immunosensors based on recombinant antibodies to detect the Vif molecule (virion infectivity factor). The developed immunosensors selectively detected Vif in aqueous solutions and presented specificity and good sensibility when detecting the target protein in complex samples like mixtures of proteins and cell extracts

First record of the nudibranch tenellia adspersa (Nordmann, 1845) in Portugal, associated with the invasive hydrozoan cordylophora caspia (Pallas, 1771)

The estuarine nudibranch Tenellia adspersa (Nordmann, 1845) was recorded for the first time in Portugal, while sampling for fouling fauna of artificial structures along the salinity gradient of the Guadiana estuary (SW Iberian Peninsula). Two specimens were found in association with the invasive hydrozoan Cordylophora caspia (Pallas, 1771) and kept in the laboratory for taxonomy purposes. After two days, batches of eggs were seen in C. caspia branches, while the nudibranchs were also actively feeding on the hydrozoan polyps. The fast generation times of T. adspersa, along with its food preference for C. caspia, might suggest a positive role of the nudibranch on controlling this invasive hydrozoan in the Guadiana estuary. Projecto timecloud: software de gestão de tempo laboral numa plataforma cloud

O presente projecto tem como objectivo a disponibilização de uma plataforma de serviços para gestão e contabilização de tempo remunerável, através da marcação de horas de trabalho, férias e faltas (com ou sem justificação). Pretende-se a disponibilização de relatórios com base nesta informação e a possibilidade de análise automática dos dados, como por exemplo excesso de faltas e férias sobrepostas de trabalhadores. A ênfase do projecto está na disponibilização de uma arquitectura que facilite a inclusão destas funcionalidades. O projecto está implementado sobre a plataforma Google App Engine (i.e. GAE), de forma a disponibilizar uma solução sob o paradigma de Software as a Service, com garantia de disponibilidade e replicação de dados. A plataforma foi escolhida a partir da análise das principais plataformas cloud existentes: Google App Engine, Windows Azure e Amazon Web Services. Foram analisadas as características de cada plataforma, nomeadamente os modelos de programação, os modelos de dados disponibilizados, os serviços existentes e respectivos custos. A escolha da plataforma foi realizada com base nas suas características à data de iniciação do presente projecto. A solução está estruturada em camadas, com as seguintes componentes: interface da plataforma, lógica de negócio e lógica de acesso a dados. A interface disponibilizada está concebida com observação dos princípios arquitecturais REST, suportando dados nos formatos JSON e XML. A esta arquitectura base foi acrescentada uma componente de autorização, suportada em Spring-Security, sendo a autenticação delegada para os serviços Google Acounts. De forma a permitir o desacoplamento entre as várias camadas foi utilizado o padrão Dependency Injection. A utilização deste padrão reduz a dependência das tecnologias utilizadas nas diversas camadas. Foi implementado um protótipo, para a demonstração do trabalho realizado, que permite interagir com as funcionalidades do serviço implementadas, via pedidos AJAX. Neste protótipo tirou-se partido de várias bibliotecas javascript e padrões que simplificaram a sua realização, tal como o model-view-viewmodel através de data binding. Para dar suporte ao desenvolvimento do projecto foi adoptada uma abordagem de desenvolvimento ágil, baseada em Scrum, de forma a implementar os requisitos do sistema, expressos em user stories. De forma a garantir a qualidade da implementação do serviço foram realizados testes unitários, sendo também feita previamente a análise da funcionalidade e posteriormente produzida a documentação recorrendo a diagramas UML.The project aims at providing a service platform for managing and accounting work hours, allowing workers to set their work time, vacations and absences . The system enables the production of work reports and the automatic analysis of the data, e.g. excessive absences oroverlapping vacations of workers. The emphasis is to provide an architecture that facilitates the inclusion of such functionalit ies . The project implementation targets Google App Engine (i.e. GAE) in order to provide a solution based on the Software as a Service paradigm, providing high availability and automatic data replication. The platform ’s choice resulted from the analysis of the current main cloud platforms: Google App Engine, Windows Azure and Amazon Web Services. The analysis considered the features of each platform, namely programming model, data model, provided services and costs. The result is a layered solution composed of the following modules : interface, business logicand data management. The platform’s interface is designed according to the REST architectural constraints, and supports JSON and XML format s. It also includes an authorization component, based on Spring-Security. Authentication is performed through Google Accounts. In order to increase decoupling, the solution resorts to the Dependency Injection design pattern, whichprovides technology independence at the different layers. It was also implemented a prototype to provide the current work’s proof of concept. The prototype issues AJAX requests to the platform services and its implementation is simplified by the use of several javascript libraries and design patterns, such as the model-view-viewmodel, used through a data binding mechanism. T he project development used a Scrum based agile approach, in order to implement the system requirements, which were expressed in user stories. Unit tests were produced in order to ensure the quality of the developed code, and UML was used to document and analyze the implemented functionalities

Competências em língua portuguesa à saída da licenciatura: o caso da licenciatura em Educação Básica da ESELx (2010-11)

O presente artigo tem como objetivo geral analisar o desempenho dos alunos da licenciatura em Educação Básica da Escola Superior de Educação de Lisboa na prova de língua portuguesa de acesso ao 2º Ciclo de estudos, no ano letivo de 2010-11. Em concreto, procurar-se-á: (i) caracterizar os candidatos; (ii) identificar as áreas de maior (in)sucesso no âmbito das competências em avaliação (leitura, escrita e conhecimento linguístico).Abstract The main goal of this paper is to analyze how graduates in Basic Education from the Higher Education College of Lisbon performed the exam of Portuguese that provides access to the 2nd Cycle of higher education in the 2010-11 school year. The specific goals are: (i) to characterize the candidates; (ii) to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the skills under examination (reading, writing and linguistic knowledge)
