A dynamical survey of the trans-Neptunian region II.: On the nature of chaotic diffusion

On long enough timescales, chaotic diffusion has the potential to significantly alter the appearance of a dynamical system. The solar system is no exception: diffusive processes take part in the transportation of small bodies and provide dynamical pathways even for the distant trans-Neptunian objects to reach the inner solar system. In this Letter, we carry out a thorough investigation of the nature of chaotic diffusion. We analyze the temporal evolution of the mean squared displacement of ten thousand ensembles of test particles and quantify in each case the diffusion exponent (enabling the classification between normal, sub-, and super-diffusion), the generalized diffusion coefficient, and a characteristic diffusion timescale, too. This latter quantity is compared with an entropy-based timescale, and the two approaches are studied in light of direct computations as well. Our results are given in the context of two-dimensional maps, thereby facilitating the understanding of the relationship between the typical phase space structures and the properties of chaotic diffusion.Comment: 6 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in the open-access journal MNRA

La traduction française de la version grecque dite d’Iviron de Barlaam et Joasaph

A Barlám és Jozafát című regényes legenda 11. századi Athosz-hegyi görög kéziratának (Iviron No 463) különlegessége, hogy – a bizánci irodalmi hagyományban egyedülálló módon – a görög szöveg mellett a kézirat margóján szerepel egy teljes (!), valószínűleg a 13. század elejéről származó, ezidáig át nem írt, ófrancia fordítás. Az ófrancia szöveg egyetlen más nyugati változattal sincs kapcsolatban (latin, későbbi ófrancia változatok), a fordító szóról szóra az eredeti görög szöveget követi. Az előadás a szövegkiadási munkálatok előkészítő szakaszának tapasztalatait összegzi, elsősorban paleográfiai és filológiai szempontok alapján. A francia fordítás és a görög eredeti összevetése új távlatokat nyithat meg a kutatásban, hiszen első alkalommal nyílik lehetőség a középkori regény műfaján belül egy görög és egy francia szöveg párhuzamos filológiai vizsgálatára, a lexikai és stilisztikai sajátosságok és egyezések elemzésére, amely más francia regénnyel kapcsolatban is jelentős eredményeket hozhat

Cadeau de fiançailles byzantin d’une princesse normande? (cod. Iviron 463 [Lambros 4583])

The manuscript Iviron 463 contains the Greek version of the Barlaam and Joasaph Romance. Apart from the beautiful miniatures in the codex, it is also special because of a complete, heretofore not transcribed old French translation running through the margin of the manuscript. The uncommon bilingual manuscript is of significant importance not only from the perspective of old French philology but also from the perspective of linguistic and literary interactions between cultures. This paper examines the circumstances of the creation of the manuscript and the questions related to the commissioner in more detail
