ERTS-1 applications to Minnesota land use mapping
Land use class definitions that can be operationally employed with ERTS-1 imagery are being developed with the cooperation of personnel from several state, regional, and federal agencies with land management responsibilities within the state and the University of Minnesota. Investigations of urban, extractive, forest, and wetlands areas indicate that it is feasible to subdivide each of these classes into several sub-classes with the use of ERTS-1 images from one or more time periods
A Density Matrix Renormalization Group Approach to an Asymptotically Free Model with Bound States
We apply the DMRG method to the 2 dimensional delta function potential which
is a simple quantum mechanical model with asymptotic freedom and formation of
bound states. The system block and the environment block of the DMRG contain
the low energy and high energy degrees of freedom, respectively. The ground
state energy and the lowest excited states are obtained with very high
accuracy. We compare the DMRG method with the Similarity RG method and propose

Energy metabolism and ketogenic diets: What about the skeletal health? a narrative review and a prospective vision for planning clinical trials on this issue
The existence of a common mesenchymal cell progenitor shared by bone, skeletal muscle, and adipocytes cell progenitors, makes the role of the skeleton in energy metabolism no longer surprising. Thus, bone fragility could also be seen as a consequence of a “poor” quality in nutrition. Ketogenic diet was originally proven to be effective in epilepsy, and long-term follow-up studies on epileptic children undergoing a ketogenic diet reported an increased incidence of bone fractures and decreased bone mineral density. However, the causes of such negative impacts on bone health have to be better defined. In these subjects, the concomitant use of antiepileptic drugs and the reduced mobilization may partly explain the negative effects on bone health, but little is known about the effects of diet itself, and/or generic alterations in vitamin D and/or impaired growth factor production. Despite these remarks, clinical studies were adequately designed to investigate bone health are scarce and bone health related aspects are not included among the various metabolic pathologies positively influenced by ketogenic diets. Here, we provide not only a narrative review on this issue, but also practical advice to design and implement clinical studies on ketogenic nutritional regimens and bone health outcomes. Trends in alcohol use among Hawai‘i adolescents
It is important to review trends in youth alcohol use over time in order to effectively tailor prevention programs to address those trends. This article reviews data on alcohol use behaviors from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\u27s Youth Risk Behavior Survey in Hawai‘i from 1993 to 2007. Five alcohol use indicators were examined and stratified by grade level, from 9th grade through 12th grade. Significant drops in nearly all indicators are seen among 9th through 11th graders, but not among 12th graders. This suggests that Hawai‘i youth are responding well to anti-alcohol messaging as young teens, but a different approach may be needed to target older teens

RPA for Light-Front Hamiltonian Field Theory
A self-consistent random phase approximation (RPA) is proposed as an
effective Hamiltonian method in Light-Front Field Theory (LFFT). We apply the
general idea to the light-front massive Schwinger model to obtain a new bound

Bubble Shape Oscillations and the Onset of Sonoluminescence
An air bubble trapped in water by an oscillating acoustic field undergoes
either radial or nonspherical pulsations depending on the strength of the
forcing pressure. Two different instability mechanisms (the Rayleigh--Taylor
instability and parametric instability) cause deviations from sphericity.
Distinguishing these mechanisms allows explanation of many features of recent
experiments on sonoluminescence, and suggests methods for finding

A New Method to Estimate the Noise in Financial Correlation Matrices
Financial correlation matrices measure the unsystematic correlations between
stocks. Such information is important for risk management. The correlation
matrices are known to be ``noise dressed''. We develop a new and alternative
method to estimate this noise. To this end, we simulate certain time series and
random matrices which can model financial correlations. With our approach,
different correlation structures buried under this noise can be detected.
Moreover, we introduce a measure for the relation between noise and
correlations. Our method is based on a power mapping which efficiently
suppresses the noise. Neither further data processing nor additional input is

This paper provides a technique that minimize the cruise drag (or maximize L/D) fora blended wing body transport with a number of constraints. The wing shape design isdone by splitting the problem into 2D airfoil design and 3D twist optimization with a frozenplanform. A 45% to 50% reduction of inviscid drag is nally obtained, with desired pitchingmoment. Series Expansions for the Massive Schwinger Model in Hamiltonian lattice theory
It is shown that detailed and accurate information about the mass spectrum of
the massive Schwinger model can be obtained using the technique of
strong-coupling series expansions. Extended strong-coupling series for the
energy eigenvalues are calculated, and extrapolated to the continuum limit by
means of integrated differential approximants, which are matched onto a
weak-coupling expansion. The numerical estimates are compared with exact
results, and with finite-lattice results calculated for an equivalent lattice
spin model with long-range interactions. Both the heavy fermion and the light
