Geometric construction of modular functors from Conformal Field Theory
This is the second paper in a series of papers aimed at providing a geometric
construction of modular functors and topological quantum field theories from
conformal field theory building on the constructions in [TUY] and [KNTY].
We give a geometric construct of a modular functor for any simple Lie-algebra
and any level by twisting the constructions in [TUY] by a certain fractional
power of the abelian theory first considered in [KNTY] and further studied in

Inclusive 2H(3He,t) reaction at 2 GeV
The inclusive 2H(3He,t) reaction has been studied at 2 GeV for energy
transfers up to 500 MeV and scattering angles from 0.25 up to 4 degrees. Data
are well reproduced by a model based on a coupled-channel approach for
describing the NN and N Delta systems. The effect of final state interaction is
important in the low energy part of the spectra. In the delta region, the
cross-section is very sensitive to the effects of Delta-N interaction and Delta
N - NN process. The latter has also a large influence well below the pion
threshold. The calculation underestimates the experimental cross-section
between the quasi-elastic and the delta peaks; this is possibly due to
projectile excitation or purely mesonic exchange currents.Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures, accepted for publication in EPJ
The exometabolome of microbial communities inhabiting bare ice surfaces on the southern Greenland Ice Sheet
Microbial blooms colonize the Greenland Ice Sheet bare ice surface during the ablation season and significantly reduce its albedo. On the ice surface, microbes are exposed to high levels of irradiance, freeze–thaw cycles, and low nutrient concentrations. It is well known that microorganisms secrete metabolites to maintain homeostasis, communicate with other microorganisms, and defend themselves. Yet, the exometabolome of supraglacial microbial blooms, dominated by the pigmented glacier ice algae Ancylonema alaskanum and Ancylonema nordenskiöldii, remains thus far unstudied. Here, we use a high-resolution mass spectrometry-based untargeted metabolomics workflow to identify metabolites in the exometabolome of microbial blooms on the surface of the southern tip of the Greenland Ice Sheet. Samples were collected every 6 h across two diurnal cycles at 5 replicate sampling sites with high similarity in community composition, in terms of orders and phyla present. Time of sampling explained 46% (permutational multivariate analysis of variance [PERMANOVA], pseudo-F = 3.7771, p = 0.001) and 27% (PERMANOVA, pseudo-F = 1.8705, p = 0.001) of variance in the exometabolome across the two diurnal cycles. Annotated metabolites included riboflavin, lumichrome, tryptophan, and azelaic acid, all of which have demonstrated roles in microbe–microbe interactions in other ecosystems and should be tested for potential roles in the development of microbial blooms on bare ice surfaces
1q21.1 distal copy number variants are associated with cerebral and cognitive alterations in humans
Low-frequency 1q21.1 distal deletion and duplication copy number variant (CNV) carriers are predisposed to multiple neurodevelopmental disorders, including schizophrenia, autism and intellectual disability. Human carriers display a high prevalence of micro- and macrocephaly in deletion and duplication carriers, respectively. The underlying brain structural diversity remains largely unknown. We systematically called CNVs in 38 cohorts from the large-scale ENIGMACNV collaboration and the UK Biobank and identified 28 1q21.1 distal deletion and 22 duplication carriers and 37,088 non-carriers (48% male) derived from 15 distinct magnetic resonance imaging scanner sites. With standardized methods, we compared subcortical and cortical brain measures (all) and cognitive performance (UK Biobank only) between carrier groups also testing for mediation of brain structure on cognition. We identified positive dosage effects of copy number on intracranial volume (ICV) and total cortical surface area, with the largest effects in frontal and cingulate cortices, and negative dosage effects on caudate and hippocampal volumes. The carriers displayed distinct cognitive deficit profiles in cognitive tasks from the UK Biobank with intermediate decreases in duplication carriers and somewhat larger in deletion carriers—the latter potentially mediated by ICV or cortical surface area. These results shed light on pathobiological mechanisms of neurodevelopmental disorders, by demonstrating gene dose effect on specific brain structures and effect on cognitive function
Strongly correlating liquids and their isomorphs
This paper summarizes the properties of strongly correlating liquids, i.e.,
liquids with strong correlations between virial and potential energy
equilibrium fluctuations at constant volume. We proceed to focus on the
experimental predictions for strongly correlating glass-forming liquids. These
predictions include i) density scaling, ii) isochronal superposition, iii) that
there is a single function from which all frequency-dependent viscoelastic
response functions may be calculated, iv) that strongly correlating liquids are
approximately single-parameter liquids with close to unity Prigogine-Defay
ratio, and v) that the fictive temperature initially decreases for an isobaric
temperature up jump. The "isomorph filter", which allows one to test for
universality of theories for the non-Arrhenius temperature dependence of the
relaxation time, is also briefly discussed
Energy level statistics of the two-dimensional Hubbard model at low filling
The energy level statistics of the Hubbard model for square
lattices (L=3,4,5,6) at low filling (four electrons) is studied numerically for
a wide range of the coupling strength. All known symmetries of the model
(space, spin and pseudospin symmetry) have been taken into account explicitly
from the beginning of the calculation by projecting into symmetry invariant
subspaces. The details of this group theoretical treatment are presented with
special attention to the nongeneric case of L=4, where a particular complicated
space group appears. For all the lattices studied, a significant amount of
levels within each symmetry invariant subspaces remains degenerated, but except
for L=4 the ground state is nondegenerate. We explain the remaining
degeneracies, which occur only for very specific interaction independent
states, and we disregard these states in the statistical spectral analysis. The
intricate structure of the Hubbard spectra necessitates a careful unfolding
procedure, which is thoroughly discussed. Finally, we present our results for
the level spacing distribution, the number variance , and the
spectral rigidity , which essentially all are close to the
corresponding statistics for random matrices of the Gaussian ensemble
independent of the lattice size and the coupling strength. Even very small
coupling strengths approaching the integrable zero coupling limit lead to the
Gaussian ensemble statistics stressing the nonperturbative nature of the

Morphological Instabilities in a growing Yeast Colony: Experiment and Theory
We study the growth of colonies of the yeast Pichia membranaefaciens on
agarose film. The growth conditions are controlled in a setup where nutrients
are supplied through an agarose film suspended over a solution of nutrients. As
the thickness of the agarose film is varied, the morphology of the front of the
colony changes. The growth of the front is modeled by coupling it to a
diffusive field of inhibitory metabolites. Qualitative agreement with
experiments suggests that such a coupling is responsible for the observed

Coherent pion production in neutrino nucleus collision in the 1 GeV region
We calculate cross sections for coherent pion production in nuclei induced by
neutrinos and antineutrinos of the electron and muon type. The analogies and
differences between this process and the related ones of coherent pion
production induced by photons, or the (p,n) and reactions are
discussed. The process is one of the several ones occurring for intermediate
energy neutrinos, to be considered when detecting atmospheric neutrinos. For
this purpose the results shown here can be easily extrapolated to other

Volume-energy correlations in the slow degrees of freedom of computer-simulated phospholipid membranes
Constant-pressure molecular-dynamics simulations of phospholipid membranes in
the fluid phase reveal strong correlations between equilibrium fluctuations of
volume and energy on the nanosecond time-scale. The existence of strong
volume-energy correlations was previously deduced indirectly by Heimburg from
experiments focusing on the phase transition between the fluid and the ordered
gel phases. The correlations, which are reported here for three different
membranes (DMPC, DMPS-Na, and DMPSH), have volume-energy correlation
coefficients ranging from 0.81 to 0.89. The DMPC membrane was studied at two
temperatures showing that the correlation coefficient increases as the phase
transition is approached
