    The Effect of Maternal Attitude on the Evaluation of Behavioral Feeding

    Introduction: This study was planned to determine maternal attitudes' effect on behavioral pediatric feeding assessment in mothers with children aged 6-9 years. Methods: The sample consisted of 196 mothers with children aged 6-9 years. The Behavioral Pediatric Feeding Assessment Scale and the Hamel Maternal Attitude Scale were employed to assess behavioral pediatric feeding and maternal attitudes, respectively. Results: A significant correlation was found between the Behavioral Pediatric Feeding Assessment Scale total scores and the “authoritarian” subscale of the Hamel Maternal Attitude Scale. There were significant differences in the participants’ Behavioral Pediatric Feeding Assessment Scale scores in terms of children's ages and family types. Conclusion: As a result, it was determined that the mother's feeding behavior of her child is affected by both the factors related to her child, the environment in which she lives, and her own attitude

    Oral Rehabilitation in a Patient with Major Maxillofacial Trauma: A Case Management

    Traumatic injuries may cause anatomic deficiencies in soft and hard tissues. These defects often result in the loss of attached mucosa and alveolar processes, which might reduce potential prosthesis support and require bone and skin grafting. As a result of major maxillofacial trauma, complete or partial avulsion of the palate may require extensive surgical and prosthodontic rehabilitation. The appropriate treatment for the maxillary defect demands a multidisciplinary approach by a team which consists of various fields of dentistry and medicine. The planning prostheses should replace not only missing teeth but also lost soft tissues and bone, and they should include the hard palate, residual alveolar ridges, and, in some instances, the soft palate.     Evaluation of spinal involvement in children with mucopolysaccharidosis VI: the role of MRI

    Objective: To evaluate spinal MRI features of mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) VI and to assess the correlation with clinical findings. Methods: We retrospectively evaluated spinal MRI scans and clinical findings at the time of imaging in 14 patients (8 male, 6 female) with MPS VI. Craniometric measurements were performed and the images were assessed for bony anomalies, spinal stenosis and spinal cord compression. The degree of cervical cord compression was scored and correlated with neurological examination findings at the time of imaging. Vertebral alignment, structural changes in spinal ligaments and intervertebral discs were also assessed. Results: All patients had cervical stenosis due to bony stenosis and thickened retrodental tissue (median: 6.05 mm, range 3.3-8 mm). Retrodental tissue thickness was found to increase with age (p = 0.042). Compressive myelopathy was detected at upper cervical level in 11 (79%) and lower thoracic level in 2 patients (14%). Significant inverse correlation was found between cervical myelopathy scores and neurological strength scores. The most common bony changes were hypo/dysplastic odontoid; cervical platyspondyly with anterior inferior beaking; thoracic posterior end plate depressions and lumbar posterior scalloping. Kyphosis due to retrolisthesis of the beaked lumbar vertebrae and acute sacrococcygeal angulations were other remarkable findings. Conclusion: MRI is an essential component in evaluation of spinal involvement in MPS VI, and scanning of the entire spine is recommended to rule out thoracic cord compression.     Bacterial cellulose based facial mask with antioxidant property and high moisturizing capacity

    Bacterial cellulose (BC) produced by certain bacteria has the potential to be used in many different areas. Despite its advantageous properties compared to plant cellulose, such as high purity, mechanical strength, nanofiber mesh structure, and high-water holding capacity, its production through a biotechnological process prevents it from competing with plant counterparts in terms of cost-effectiveness. Therefore, studies have focused on the development of culture media with cost-effective BC production methods and the production of high value-added products from BC. In this study, it was aimed to develop a taurine-loaded moisturizing facial mask with antioxidant properties based on BC's high-water retention and chemical retention capacity. BC facial mask samples were characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) imaging, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy, Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Liquid Chromatography-Mass spectrometry (LC-MS), microbial and mechanical stability tests, as well as cytotoxicity tests. According to our results, produced facial mask samples did not show any cytotoxic effect on human keratinocyte (HS2) or mouse fibroblast (L-929) cell lines; it has high thermal stability, which makes it suitable for different sterilization techniques including sterilization by heat treatment. Taurine release (over 2 mu g/mL in 5 min) and microbial stability tests (no bacterial growth observed) of packaged products kept at 40 and 25 degrees C for 6 months have shown that the product preserves its characteristics for a long time.
