Saúde, razão prática e dimensão simbólica dos usos da internet: notas etnográficas sobre os sentidos da reprodução

This work analyses the usages of the internet in view of the diffusion of social values associated with the popularization of the human reproduction theme in health websites. These reflections are the result of a broader ethnographic research on 'infertile couples', developed in Rio de Janeiro (2004/2006), which approached the repercussions of involuntary non-reproduction from the viewpoint of upper middle-class couples, having as a starting point their life trajectories. Semi-structured interviews were conducted, as well as the observation of each interview's context, with 16 coupled individuals, all of them employed university graduates with some kind of difficulty in having children. The analytical corpus included the monitoring of internet discussion groups on the subject. This article is circumscribed to the analysis of specific topic relative to the usages of the internet for access to information on the theme of couple's infertility. Due to the diversity of theoretical perspectives on the study of the internet in different disciplinary fields, the analysis provides brief considerations about the particularities of the use of the anthropological approach to the theme. The results show the connection between the popularization of the analyzed theme on the internet, its uses and social conducts. The naturalized conceptions of reproduction are predominant, and the impact of involuntary non-reproduction among couples points to significant gender-related differences. The uses of the internet indicate a self-reflective character in the constitution of individuals and social identities, and point to the connections between the medicalization of the social sphere, the body's reproductive dimension, particularly the feminine body, and the phenomenon of individualization in modern western culture.Este trabalho buscou analisar os usos da internet tendo em vista a difusão de valores sociais associados à popularização da temática da reprodução humana em websites de saúde. Resulta de uma pesquisa etnográfica mais ampla sobre casais inférteis, realizada no Rio de Janeiro entre 2004e 2006, que contemplou as reverberações da não reprodução involuntária do ponto de vista de casais dos estratos médios superiores, a partir de suas trajetórias de vida. Este artigo circunscreve-se à análise de tópico específico relativo aos usos da internet no acesso às informações sobre o tema da infertilidade conjugal. Mediante a diversidade de perspectivas teóricas no estudo da internet em diferentes campos disciplinares, a análise comporta breves considerações sobre as particularidades da utilização da abordagem antropológica relacionada ao tema. Os resultados indicam as conexões entre a popularização da temática analisada na internet, seus usos e as condutas sociais. Predominam concepções naturalizadas sobre a reprodução e o impacto da não reprodução involuntária entre os casais apontam significativas diferenças relativas ao gênero. Os usos da internet refletem o caráter auto-reflexivo na constituição dos sujeitos e identidades sociais e apontam os nexos entre a medicalização do social, a dimensão reprodutiva do corpo, particularmente o corpo feminino, e o fenômeno da individualização na cultura ocidental moderna

Gênero e sexualidade na cena das políticas brasileiras: das afinidades eletivas e (in)visibilidades na agenda pública

The article points out strictly to (in)visibility in terms of public policies and agendas, particularly health that have on gender and sexuality the focus of interventions, analyzed as from the criticism of the intervention in the bodies by biomedicine and perspective of sexual and reproductive rights. The connections between the two spheres - sexuality and reproduction - the driving forces that are discourse right the option remain strongly present in social discourse and political action, resulting in consecration of certain dominant themes on the agenda of public policies in Brazil.O artigo aponta de modo estrito (in)visibilidades no plano das políticas e agendas públicas, particularmente as de saúde que têm no gênero e na sexualidade o foco das intervenções, problematizadas a partir da crítica à intervenção nos corpos pela biomedicina e da perspectiva dos direitos sexuais e reprodutivos. Discursos normativos sobre o desejo de ter filhos

Son presentadas reflexiones acerca de los discursos normativos sobre sexualidad, familia y reproducción difundidos por los conocimientos médico y jurídico en la sociedad contemporánea. Se partió del supuesto de que en los actuales discursos acerca del deseo de hijos coexisten transformaciones y permanencias de valores y prácticas, traducidas en reivindicaciones en el plano de los derechos sexuales y reproductivos, con nuevas demandas en el ámbito de las políticas públicas y de salud. El actual valor atribuido a la familia tiene por base el modelo de familia conyugal moderna, lo que puede ser observado en medio de las transformaciones ocurridas en las relaciones familiares y de las identidades sexuales. A partir de una nueva configuración de valores, la expectativa de paternidad y de maternidad se tornó, en parte, un valor de la relación homosexual. Sin embargo, ignorando las transformaciones en el ámbito de las relaciones familiares y de las identidades sociales, la centralidad de la pareja heterosexual prevalece en el discurso médico y jurídico acerca del deseo de hijos.São apresentadas reflexões acerca dos discursos normativos sobre sexualidade, família e reprodução difundidos pelos saberes médico e jurídico na sociedade contemporânea. Partiu-se do pressuposto de que nos atuais discursos acerca do desejo de filhos coexistem transformações e permanências de valores e práticas, traduzidas em reivindicações no plano dos direitos sexuais e reprodutivos, com novas demandas no âmbito das políticas públicas e de saúde. O atual valor atribuído à família tem por base o modelo de família conjugal moderna, o que pode ser observado em meio às transformações ocorridas nas relações familiares e das identidades sexuais. A partir de uma nova configuração de valores, a expectativa de paternidade e de maternidade tornou-se, em parte, um valor da relação homossexual. No entanto, a despeito das transformações no âmbito das relações familiares e das identidades sociais, a centralidade do casal heterossexual prevalece no discurso médico e jurídico acerca do desejo de filhos.Reflections on normative discourses on sexuality, family and reproduction are shown, promoted by medical and juridical knowledge in modern society. This study was based on the assumption that changes and maintenance of values and practices coexist in the current discourses on the desire to have children, expressed as claims in the dimension of sexual and reproductive rights, with new demands in the sphere of public and health policies. The current value attributed to family is founded on the model of modern conjugal family, which can be observed in the changes that have occurred in family relations and sexual identities. Based on a new configuration of values, the expectation of paternity and maternity has partly become a value of the homosexual relationship. However, despite changes in the sphere of family relations and social identities, the centrality of the heterosexual couple prevails in the medical and juridical discourse on the desire to have children

Consumption and Feminism: Narratives of Identity Affirmation about Feminism in «The Feminist Tea» Brand

Partindo da premissa de que o consumo expressa códigos culturais, o propósito deste artigo é analisar a representação sobre o feminismo tendo por base um estudo realizado sobre a marca brasileira de chás «The Feminist Tea». O corpus da análise provém do sítio eletrônico que a abriga, páginas oficiais nas redes sociais, entrevistas e reportagens. Observou-se neste material o uso intenso do termo «empoderamento» central no chamado femvertising («publicidade feminista/feminina»). Apresentando-se como um negócio social, a marca comunica narrativas que buscam agregar relevância ao produto, inserindo-se na lógica do «feminismo de mercadoria». Narrativas de pertencimento reforçam a visão de que o consumo pode ser capaz de estabelecer identidade entre grupos. Com apoio da literatura sobre novas formas de consumo e feminismo pretende-se apontar nesta marca de chás a construção de narrativas que articulam consumo, afirmação identitária e feminismo. O trabalho suscita questões como a apropriação de um movimento político como objeto de consumo, o real potencial de mudança social desta abordagem, os limites e possibilidades de se utilizar o espaço do consumo como arena de militância. Por outro lado, essa nova narrativa pode ser especialmente positiva ao popularizar debates e ações que podem aproximar pessoas a ações políticas organizadas coletivamente.Based on the premise that consumption expresses cultural codes, the purpose of this article is to analyze the representation of feminism based on a study carried out on the Brazilian tea brand «The Feminist Tea». The corpus of analysis comes from the official website and pages on social networks, interviews and reports. In this material, the intense use of the term «empowerment» was observed, central to the so-called femvertising («feminist/feminine advertising»). Presenting itself as a social business, the brand communicates narratives that seek to add relevance to the product, inserting itself in the logic of «commodity feminism». Narratives of belonging reinforce the view that consumption may be able to establish identity between groups. With the support of the literature on new forms of consumption and feminism, it is intended to point out in this brand of teas the construction of narratives that articulate consumption, identity affirmation and feminism. The work raises questions such as the appropriation of a political movement as an object of consumption, the real potential for social change of this approach, the limits and possibilities of using the space of consumption as an arena of militancy. On the other hand, this new narrative can be especially positive in popularizing debates and actions that can bring people closer to collectively organized political actions

Ao analisar as imagens da maternidade e da gravidez procura indicar os valores e as condutas sociais subjacentes a sua criação. Representações do corpo grávido, em circulação na mídia, exprimem, mediante transformações das identidades, uma peculiar combinação de valores que, ao afirmar a liberdade de escolha e de autorrealização, apontam para uma natureza feminina. Concepções científicas acerca da dificuldade de reprodução biológica são amplamente difundidas como problema biológico individual ou do casal. Análises históricas, porém, demonstram que o modo de conceber os eventos reprodutivos transformou-se, indicando como a medicina moderna interveio nos corpos e na família, e como passou-se a afirmar a identidade feminina.<br>This analysis of images of maternity and pregnancy seeks to identify the values and social conduct behind their creation. Through transformations of identities, the representations of the pregnant body that circulate in the media reflect a peculiar combination of values which, while affirming freedom of choice and self-realization, also suggest that a female nature exists. Scientific conceptions of problems related to biological reproduction are widely conveyed as a biological problem attributable to the individual or couple. Historical analyses, however, show that the way we view reproductive events has changed, reflecting how modern medicine has intervened in our bodies and in the family and how female identity has been affirmed
