The study aimed to evaluate the interaction between fertilizer doses (N:P:K) at planting the inoculation of the Metahizium anisopliae fungus in sugarcane billets during the initial development of the plant. The experiment was conducted in pots, under full sun, in a 2 x 5 factorial scheme, specified as follows: with and without inoculation of the fungus in the billets and five doses of NPK fertilizer (0%, 50%, 75%; 100%, and 125% of recommended fertilization). Plant height was measured at 53, 77, and 91 days after planting (DAP), and the root and shoot dry matter (DM) was quantified at 91 DAP. There was no significant influence of the interaction between fungus and NPK fertilizer doses (P>0.05) on all variables analyzed. However, a significant difference was observed for inoculation (P<0.05) and doses of NPK fertilizer <0.05). Inoculation of M. anisopliae resulted in greater plant height and root and shoot DM than non-inoculated plants, regardless of fertilizer doses. In this sense, new studies must be conducted to find a way to reduce the use of NPK fertilizer in sugarcane by M. anisopliae inoculation

The skin is the largest organ of the human body. It has three layers: epidermis, dermis and hypodermis. The epidermis performs multiple functions in the body, standing out as a defensive barrier and internal integrity in addition to containing the evasion of moisture, and exogenous substances. Injury is by definition any interruption in the continuity of the skin regardless of its extent and may be chronic or acute. A newborn's skin is delicate and vulnerable, and the use of invasive devices in highly complex care can negatively affect its integrity. This review study addressed data from Brazilian research on newborn skin in intensive hospital treatment units. The studies evaluated were obtained from the SciELO, Medline and Lilacs, Google Scholar and Elsevier databases. The inclusion criteria were articles, monographs, dissertations and theses published in the period between 2018 and 2023, in Portuguese with a pre-established theme, and the exclusion criteria were articles, monographs, dissertations and repeated theses, incomplete manuscripts and with unauthorized access free of charge. As results, 3 categories were obtained: Category 1 – Main causes of skin lesions in newborns and highly complex children. Category 2- Prevention measures in newborns and highly complex children with skin lesions. Category 3- Highly complex skin care strategies for newborns and children. It is evident that due to the high susceptibility of newborns and children to develop highly complex skin lesions, it requires greater attention from the nursing team. Early detection of the risk of skin lesions and the use of prophylaxis enable a better quality of life for newborns hospitalized in high complexity, avoiding and minimizing skin lesions caused by the care provided

There are several interpretation methods for foliar nutrient analysis, and the critical level or nutrient sufficient range described in the literature are the most commonly used. However, an inclusion of methods that determine the normal nutrient ranges for specific regions (sites) can increase the efficiency of interpretation. The objective of this study was to compare normal nutrient ranges for sugarcane cultivation, determined by the methods ChM (Mathematical Chance), DRIS (Integrated System of Diagnosis and Recommendation) and CND (Compositional Nutrient Diagnosis), and the Critical Level, by the method of reduced normal distribution. The study was carried out based on data of foliar nutrient contents and crop yield, from commercial sugarcane fields in Campos de Goytacazes, State of Rio de Janeiro. By the ChM method, sufficiency ranges for N, Ca, S, and Mn were similar to those determined by DRIS and CND, while for P, K, Mg, Cu, and Zn the values obtained by ChM were higher. In general, the use of ChM, DRIS and CND in commercial sugarcane fields reduced the amplitude of the normal nutrient ranges, compared with the values obtained by the critical level and sufficiency range methods

© 2019 Society of Chemical Industry BACKGROUND: Selenium (Se) is an essential element for humans and animals. Rice is one of the most commonly consumed cereals in the world, so the agronomic biofortification of cereals with Se may be a good strategy to increase the levels of daily intake of Se by the population. This study evaluated the agronomic biofortification of rice genotypes with Se and its effects on grain nutritional quality. Five rates of Se (0, 10, 25, 50, and 100 g ha−1) were applied as selenate via the soil to three rice genotypes under field conditions. RESULTS: Selenium concentrations in the leaves and polished grains increased linearly in response to Se application rates. A highly significant correlation was observed between the Se rates and the Se concentration in the leaves and grains, indicating high translocation of Se. The application of Se also increased the concentration of albumin, globulin, prolamin, and glutelin in polished grains. CONCLUSION: Biofortifying rice genotypes using 25 g Se ha−1 could increase the average daily Se intake from 4.64 to 66 μg day−1. Considering that the recommended daily intake of Se by adults is 55 μg day−1, this agronomic strategy could contribute to alleviating widespread Se malnutrition. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry

The large-scale distribution of neutral hydrogen (HI) in the Universe is luminous through its 21 cm emission. The goal of the Baryon Acoustic Oscillations from Integrated Neutral Gas Observations -- BINGO -- radio telescope is to detect baryon acoustic oscillations (BAOs) at radio frequencies through 21 cm intensity mapping (IM). The telescope will span the redshift range 0.127 <z<< z < 0.449 with an instantaneous field-of-view of 14.75×6.014.75^{\circ} \times 6.0^{\circ}. In this work we investigate different constructive and operational scenarios of the instrument by generating sky maps as they would be produced by the instrument. In doing this we use a set of end-to-end IM mission simulations. The maps will additionally be used to evaluate the efficiency of a component separation method (GNILC). We have simulated the kind of data that would be produced in a single-dish IM experiment such as BINGO. According to the results obtained, we have optimized the focal plane design of the telescope. In addition, the application of the GNILC method on simulated data shows that it is feasible to extract the cosmological signal across a wide range of multipoles and redshifts. The results are comparable with the standard principal component analysis method.Comment: 16 pages. Version to appear in A&
