    REMEDIAL TEACHING PROGRAM FOR LOW-ACHIEVERS: AN EFL TEACHER’S PERCEPTION

    In schools like in Indonesia in which the majority of the classrooms are dominated by students coming from various cultures, different personality, different learning strategies, different background knowledge, and different pace in learning as well, it is certainly difficult for the teachers to accommodate all students' needs which then results to have students who cannot reach the learning objectives. Thus, remedial teaching program is demanded to address those failing students. However, the debate on whether or not remedial teaching was effective for low-achievers continued among scholars. Besides, the attention on remedial teaching program in Indonesian context was also limited. This case study involving one EFL teacher of a Junior High School in Riau was conducted to explore her perception on remedial teaching program and to find out what problems she encountered in conducting it. Using an interview supported with documents analysis, the researcher found that although the teachers admitted that low-achievers benefited from remedial teaching program, it was difficult for the teacher to design and conduct effective remedial teaching program mainly due to time limitation. Besides, the difficulty in simplifying teaching materials, students’ learning overload and lack of school support were seen to be other problems encountered by her in conducting the program

    PENGGUNAAN HASHTAG PADA AKUN INSTAGRAM PERPUSTAKAAN UNIVERSITAS GADJAH MADA

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penggunaan hashtag pada akun instagram Perpustakaan UGM, yang meliputi langkah-langkah dalam menentukan hashtag dan karakteristik hashtag yang digunakan. Terdapat lima karakteristik hashtag yang umum digunakan yaitu content-based hashtags, context-based hashtags, attribute hashtags, subjective hashtags, organizational hashtags.Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Informan penelitian adalah pustakawan yang bertugas sebagai admin akun instagram Perpustakaan UGM. Data analisis menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman yang meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Selanjutnya, dilakukan keabsahan data menggunakan teknik triangulasi.Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa langkah-langkah dalam menentukan hashtag dilakukan dengan cara berdiskusi bersama rekan/tim kerja. Kemudian ditetapkan apa saja kata kunci hashtag yang akan digunakan pada sebuah postingan. Selanjutnya, penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa hanya 2 karakteristik hashtag yang digunakan pada postingan instagram perpustakaan ugm yaitu content-based hashtags dan context-based hashtags.Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, penggunaan hashtag sudah ditentukan dengan langkah-langkah yang terstruktur. Akan tetapi, perlu diperhatikan kembali beberapa karakteristik hashtag untuk lebih mengoptimalkan penggunaan instagram Perpustakaan UGM.

    INCORPORATING CHARACTER EDUCATION IN AN EFL CLASSROOM: A CASE OF INDONESIAN ENGLISH TEACHERS

    The degradation of moral and the urgency of inculcating both good competencies and strong characters to succeed the 21st-century globally competitive society for the young generation require all teachers including English teachers to incorporate character values into their classroom instructions. However, such inculcation in EFL classrooms seems more complicated than in other subjects since students encounter a cross-cultural interface between English as the language they are learning and their own culture. Albeit being the government’s priority, research on the character building integration in the EFL teaching process is limited, not to mention the unclear direction on how to conduct such integration. This qualitative case study scrutinizes how Indonesian English teachers perceive character education incorporation as well as how they realize it into their teaching process. This study employed an interview, classroom observation, and lesson plan analysis, which involved two purposefully-selected English teachers from two different piloting schools. Findings reveal that while they agree on the pivotal role they could serve toward students’ character development, they also emphasize the enhancement of some other factors, such as family, good leadership, the cohesiveness of school community members, best inputs, media, and government supports. However, despite their similar positive viewpoints on the policy, the way they incorporate the nominated character values into their classroom instructions is different in the planning, implementation, and evaluation process. Some problems in the process of character values inculcation in the classroom and recommendations for further research are also discussed. Keywords: 2013 Curriculum, character education, character values, English language teaching, perception Degradasi moral dan keharusan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi generasi muda Indonesia serta menanamkan karakter yang kuat untuk dapat bersaing dalam masyarakat global pada abad 21 mengharuskan semua guru termasuk guru bahasa Inggris untuk memasukkan nilai-nilai karakter ke dalam proses pembelajaran dikelas. Akan tetapi, proses integrasi nilai-nilai karakter didalam kelas Bahasa Inggris sebagai Bahasa asing tampaknya lebih rumit dibandingkan dengan mata pelajaran lain karena siswa menghadapi perbedaan budaya antara bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa yang mereka pelajari dan budaya mereka sendiri. Meskipun telah menjadi prioritas pemerintah, penelitian tentang integrasi pembentukan karakter dalam proses pengajaran Bahasa Inggris masih sangat terbatas, belum lagi ketidakjelasan tentang bagaimana melakukan proses integrasi tersebut. Studi kasus ini meneliti bagaimana persepsi para guru Bahasa Inggris Indonesia dalam pengintegrasian pendidikan karakter didalam proses pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris serta bagaimana mereka mewujudkannya dalam proses pengajaran. Penelitian ini menggunakan wawancara, observasi kelas, dan analisis RPP dalam pengambilan data, serta melibatkan dua guru bahasa Inggris yang dipilih secara khusus dari dua sekolah percontohan yang berbeda. Temuan mengungkapkan bahwa meskipun mereka meyakini peran penting yang dapat mereka mainkan terhadap pengembangan karakter siswa, mereka juga menekankan beberapa faktor lain yang juga harus ditingkatkan seperti keluarga, kepemimpinan yang baik, kekompakan anggota komunitas sekolah, input yang baik, media, dan dukungan pemerintah. Akan tetapi, meskipun mereka memandang secara positif tentang kebijakan pemerintah untuk mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai karakter didalam kelas, cara mereka memasukkan nilai-nilai karakter dalam proses pembelajaran sedikit berbeda khususnya dalam proses perencanaan, implementasi, dan evaluasi. Beberapa masalah yang guru hadapi dalam proses pengintegrasian nilai karakter di kelas dan rekomendasi untuk penelitian lebih lanjut juga dibahas dalam tesis ini.     Kecemasan Perpustakaan Pada Mahasiswa Universitas Lancang Kuning

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kecemasan pustakawan pada mahasiswa Unilak, tingkat kecemasan yang dialami, dan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kecemasan tersebut. Metode yang digunakan yaitu metode survei dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. responden penelitian ini berjumlah 60 mahasiswa yang diambil dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling, dan data penelitian dianalisis menggunakan structural equation model (SEM) berbasis component atau variance dengan menggunakan metode partial least square (PLS). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada kecemasan perpustakaan pada mahasiswa Unilak, kecemasan yang dialami berada pada tingkat rendah. Kecemasan perpustakaan pada mahasiswa Unilak dipengaruhi oleh hambatan pelayanan pustakawan, hambatan kenyamanan perpustakaan, hambatan afektif, dan hambatan mekanis. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini diambil kesimpulan bahwa hambatan dengan pustakawan merupakan faktor yang memiliki pengaruh paling besar, pihak perpustakaan disarankan untuk melakukan evaluasi terhadap pelayanan yang diberikan kepada pemustaka dan juga melakukan pembinaan terhadap kompetensi pustakawan dalam memberikan pelayanan maupun penyelenggaraan perpustakaan, yang bertujuan untuk mengurangi tingkat kecemasan perpustakaan terutama pada factor hambatan dengan pustakawan

    Introduction. This research aims to obtain the mapping of research in the field of Library and Information in Berkala Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi(BIP) published by Universitas Gadjah Mada.  The Research Method.This was abibliometric analysis using Zipf (frequency spread of word) with research samples of 20 jurnal articles published by BIP in 2017.Data Collection Method. Every article was examined by the highest word frequencyresulting keywords and subjects for each article. Further analysis was conducted to classify subject grouping based on Hawkins theory.Results and Discussions. The results indicated that research topics in Berkala Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi UGM in 2017 were classified into two categories: (1) There were, 16 articlesrelated to the topic “Librarians”, (2) There were 4 articles related to the topic“Information Science”. The result is the tendency of research topics in the field of the IPI entered into a group of librarianship.Conclusion. The research topics in the field of Library and Information Science is more likely to enter the librarianship group. Future advice is that researchers are expected to develop research by raising other topics

Given the fundamental roles teachers could serve in the success of promoting good character both outside and inside the classroom, it is critical to understand how they view such a program before they could bring it into the classroom. This qualitative case study scrutinizes how Indonesian English teachers perceive character education incorporation. Employing an interview, classroom observation, and lesson plan analysis, to two purposefully-selected English teachers from two different piloting schools, findings reveal that while they agree on the pivotal role they could serve toward students’ character development, they also emphasize the enhancement of some other factors, such as inspiring teachers, family, good leadership, the cohesiveness of school community members, media, and government supports for the success of character education reinforcement program in Indonesia
