OBJECTIVE AND INTRODUCTION: Preparation of data from 6 geometric regions of interest in the colon is time consuming, and can become impractical in the environment of busy Nuclear Medicine Departments. Therefore, we have investigated and demonstrated an alternative method for obtaining the same diagnostic information from an analysis of patients with idiopathic constipation who underwent colon transit scintigraphy using 67Ga-citrate. Data analysis methods using three regions of interest are compared to the results obtained using the more time consuming 6 regions of interest method to analyze the data. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this study, we report our results of the comparative reanalysis of data obtained by more traditional methods. We compare 3 regions of interest (ROI) which were taken from areas including the right colon, left colon and the rectosigmoid colon, with original work using our alternative 6 (ROI) diagnostic methodology. In addition, the proximal colonic emptying (PCE) was determined at 24 hr post ingestion among members of 3 identified subject groups. RESULTS: The distribution of activity as the ingested 67Ga-citrate passes through the colon constitutes an activity profile. The mean activity position in the colon can be determined from subsequent radiographic images and from this the mean clearance time can be calculated. In quantitative assessment, this represents the time at which half of activity was eliminated from colon (mean half clearance time - MCT) which did not appear different in the reanalysis. There is no significant difference in the current study in GMC 24h, GMC 48h and GMC 72h between two groups using the Man Whitney u test (p > 0.05), while in the previous work the results were statistically significant for the two later time periods GMC (GMC 48h and GMC 72h) (p = 0.016 and p = 0.027 respectively). The PCE in the group 1 was = 2.50 (0.37); group 2, 1.57 (0.47) and group 3, 2.97. The PCE was not different between the two groups (p = 0.21). CONCLUSIONS: This investigation demonstrated that the radionuclide colon transit study using 67Ga-citrate is a safe, physiologic, and quantitative method for evaluating the transit of fecal material from cecum to rectum. Although, the visual assessment of diagnosis of the subjects in the two analyses is the same, it was not completely supported by quantitative measurements. Therefore, further studies need to be done

The detection of animal fats such as tallow in butter using standard criteria is more difficult than vegetable fats. In order to perform a complete assessment, several methods are likely to be used together. In the experimental design of this research, compositional characteristics such as fatty acids, sterols and triacylglycerols, along with the conventional physicochemical characteristics of butter mixed with different percentages of tallow (0–15% w/w) were evaluated. An increase of less than 5% (w/w) in bovine tallow content in butter physicochemical tests, sterols and fatty acids could not indicate the adulteration level but the ratio of C6+8+10+12/C18 fatty acids, C52/C50، C52/C48, C52/C46 triacylglycerols, S1, S3, S5-value equation and C52 triacylglycerols could show this adulteration level in butter.

Quantitative and qualitative monitoring and evaluation of risk management programs will play an important role in the development of Tehran metropolitan railway transport. Considering the tectonic studies, seismic zones, land degradation and faults in north and south of Tehran, the development of underground railway lines, the assessment of the vulnerability of subway stations and the escalation of the crisis with the destruction of urban exhausted earthquakes is very important with the occurrence of earthquake and flood. This study, focusing on the issue of risk assessment and vulnerability of the development of the rail transport network and the approach to physical and aerospace hazard monitoring of metro stations. For this purpose, three selected metro stations in Tehran were studied. In the research, a combined method based on library studies, review of records and records, Delphi technique, AHP method, and overlaying of layers have been used. The results of the vulnerability assessment indicate that each of Tajirish, Nawab and Darvazeh Shemiran, with a risk number of 5.10, 5.76, and 5.79, are in the risk limit range, respectively. In fact, all stations need to adopt smart measures and management and executive solutions to reduce potential damage

Psoriasis is a chronic and inflammatory dermatologic disease. Psoriasis may predispose to cardiovascular disease and diabetes. However, the role of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitor in mediating this risk is controversial. Regarding frequent use of infliximab in psoriasis, and the hypothesis that anti TNF-α treatment may increase Body Mass Index (BMI) and alter lipid profile in these patients, the aim of this study was to assess changes in BMI and Lipid Profile and level of leptin in Psoriatic Patients under Treatment of Standard Protocol of Infliximab in a 24 week period. This study was accomplished as a before-after study. Twenty-seven psoriatic patients were included, and standard infliximab therapy was applied. All patients underwent 3 times of blood collection and in each session; LDL, HDL, Total Cholesterol, Triglycerides, Leptin, and PASI score were measured at the start of the study and at the 12th and 24th week of follow-up. Twenty-five patients consisted of 18 (72) male and 7 (28) female subjects were evaluated. The mean age of the patients was 36.91±13.31 years. PASI score demonstrated significant decrease after 24 weeks; however, BMI and HDL and leptin showed a significant increase during treatment. Significant negative correlation was seen between Leptin and PASI score changes (r=0.331, P=0.042). HDL and BMI had the most correlations with leptin (positive correlation) and PASI score (negative correlation). Results demonstrated a dramatic decrease in PASI, increase in BMI and HDL and increased in leptin; somewhat correlated to each other. These results suggest that patients taking infliximab should take more care of their weight and lipid profile, while on treatment. © 2016 Tehran University of Medical Sciences. All rights reserved

Basal stem rot (BSR) is a fatal fungal (Ganoderma) disease of oil palm plantations and has a significant impact on the production of palm oil in Malaysia. Because there is no effective treatment to control this disease, early detection of BSR is vital for sustainable disease management. The limitations of visual detection have led to an interest in the development of spectroscopically based detection techniques for rapid diagnosis of this disease. The aim of this work was to develop a procedure for early and accurate detection and differentiation of Ganoderma disease with different severities, based on spectral analysis and statistical models. Reflectance spectroscopy analysis ranging from the visible to near infrared region (325–1075 nm) was applied to analyse oil palm leaf samples of 47 healthy (G0), 55 slightly damaged (G1), 48 moderately damaged (G2), and 40 heavily damaged (G3) trees in order to detect and quantify Ganoderma disease at different levels of severity. Reflectance spectra were pre-processed, and principal component analysis (PCA) was performed on different pre-processed datasets including the raw dataset, first derivative, and second derivative datasets. The classification models: linear and quadratic discrimination analysis, k-nearest neighbour (kNN), and Naïve–Bayes were applied to PC scores for classifying four levels of stress in BSR-infected oil palm trees. The analysis showed that the kNN-based model predicted the disease with a high average overall classification accuracy of 97% with the second derivative dataset. Results confirmed the usefulness and efficiency of the spectrally based classification approach in rapid screening of BSR in oil palm

Amine Gas Sweetening System Problems Arising from Amine Replacement and Solutions to Improve System Performance

This paper includes the significant on-site experience of the authors related to problems faced in amine systems with fresh amine and their possible solutions in phases#2&3 of South Pars gas                complex. The amine system was designed as a closed circuit system with the primary objective of removing H2S, CO2, and other acidic components from gaseous hydrocarbon streams. Amine plant operational problems such as excessive foaming, intense corrosion and capacity reduction are observed in gas sweetening unit. Heat stable salt (HSS) accumulations were found to be one of the main reasons for corrosions. Since there are no MDEA purification facilities in phase#2&3, it was decided to replace old MDEA solution with fresh MDEA. However, there are some problems that many plants have experienced after amine replacing or construction. In this paper, practical strategies with experimental data were proposed to overcome these problems
