The Ebers-Moll model for magnetic bipolar transistors

    Get PDF
The equivalent electrical circuit of the Ebers-Moll type is introduced for magnetic bipolar transistors. In addition to conventional diodes and current sources, the new circuit comprises two novel elements due to spin-charge coupling. A classification scheme of the operating modes of magnetic bipolar transistors in the low bias regime is presented.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure

A Prototype Modelling of Ebers for Video Transmission in Wireless Adhoc Network

Provisioning of video streaming over ad hoc wireless networks exhibits challenges associated with high packet loss rates and are delay sensitive Excessive packet loss can cause significant degradation in quality of video perceived by users of real-time video applications The recent studies suggest that Forward Error Correction FEC is a good technique for decreasing the negative impact of packet loss on video quality in error control scheme This paper introduces an Estimation based Error Reduction Scheme EBERS to support video communication in ad hoc wireless networks The EBERS considers a frame estimation parameter to support varied bandwidths and attain the delay requirements to support video communication It is also responsible for improvising the QoS offered The EBERS considers layered and embodies distortion limiting features owing to which reduced forward error correction is achieved thus obtaining reduced frame errors transmission errors and retransmission of frames Thereby obtaining high degree of quality of service QoS The comparative study conducted proves the efficiency of the EBERS scheme over the existing mechanism

Multiple sclerosis, the measurement of disability and access to clinical trial data

Background: Inferences about long-term effects of therapies in multiple sclerosis (MS) have been based on surrogate markers studied in short-term trials. Nevertheless, MS trials have been getting steadily shorter despite the lack of a consensus definition for the most important clinical outcome - unremitting progression of disability. Methods: We have examined widely used surrogate markers of disability progression in MS within a unique database of individual patient data from the placebo arms of 31 randomised clinical trials. Findings: Definitions of treatment failure used in secondary progressive MS trials include much change unrelated to the target of unremitting disability. In relapsing-remitting MS, disability progression by treatment failure definitions was no more likely than similarly defined improvement for these disability surrogates. Existing definitions of disease progression in relapsing-remitting trials encompass random variation, measurement error and remitting relapses and appear not to measure unremitting disability. Interpretation: Clinical surrogates of unremitting disability used in relapsing -remitting trials cannot be validated. Trials have been too short and/or degrees of disability change too small to evaluate unremitting disability outcomes. Important implications for trial design and reinterpretation of existing trial results have emerged long after regulatory approval and widespread use of therapies in MS, highlighting the necessity of having primary trial data in the public domain

    Reproductive issues in the Torah

    Get PDF
Fertility was the basis of primitive man’s economy. It is therefore not surprising to find that various facets of fertility and reproduction are mentioned and commented upon in connection to religious based texts from the period. The stories related to fertility and reproduction in these religious text compliment comments from other contemporary texts and archaeology to give an indication of the prevalent thoughts and beliefs of that age. The Torah serves as a compilation of Jewish historical religious oriented folk-tales predating the Iron Age. Its stories reflect the developing relationship and increasing dependence for survival between the Jewish people and Yahweh – a dependence inherently linked to fertility of the settled land to provide sustenance and of the people to provide for an increase in the population and communal strength.peer-reviewe

Epstein-Barr Virus EBER Transcripts Affect miRNA-Mediated Regulation of Specific Targets and Are Processed to Small RNA Species

The oncogenic Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) expresses 44 mature microRNAs and two non-coding EBER RNAs of 167 (EBER1) and 172 (EBER2) nt length. MiRNA profiling of NK/T cell lines and primary cells and Northern blotting of EBV-infected cell lines and primary tumors revealed processing of EBER1 to short 5′-derived RNAs of approximately 23, 52 and 70 nt (EBER123, EBER152, and EBER170) and of EBER2 to 3′ fragments. The biogenesis of these species is independent of Dicer, and EBER123 does not act like a miRNA OPEN ACCESS Non-Coding RNA 2015, 1 171 to target its complementary sequence. EBER1, EBER2 and EBER123 were bound by the lupus antigen (La), a nuclear and cytoplasmic protein that facilitates RNAi. Consistent with this, the EBERs affect regulation of interleukin 1alpha (IL1α) and RAC1 reporters harboring miR target sequences, targets of miR-142-3p. However, the EBERs have no effect upon another target of miR-142-3p, ADCY9, nor on TOMM22, a target of ebv-miR-BART16, indicative of selective modulation of gene expression by the EBERs
