With this study we introduce a questionnaire for the assessment of the quality of anaesthesia from the point of view of the patient, using the experiences of former studies.\ud \ud Methods: Interviews with more than 480 patients, health professionals as well as all questionnaires of the former studies were considered, compared to a systematic literature research and analysed for relevant items by an expert team. The pilot questionnaire including 53 questions was distributed at five hospitals and 580 questionnaires were analysed. The final version consisted of 33 questions and was answered by 468 patients for further validation.\ud \ud Results: The questions were answered on a 4-point Likert scale and could be assigned to eight dimensions. Some questions still had a high rate of missing values. Since the problems they address are considered to be relevant per definition, they were not deleted. A Cronbach's a of 0.86 for the questionnaire and 0.48 to 0.85 for the dimensions are indicative of the good internal test reliability. All dimensions could be considered as being independent of each other. Patients displayed 71.9±13.6 [27.3 – 97] percent of the score, revealing an even lower score as far as the dimensions were concerned, thus leaving room for further improvement.\ud \ud Conclusion: Benefiting from experiences of similar instruments and a comprehensive approach, the EFA is distinguished by being patient-orientated. It captures aspects of somatic disturbance, information transfer as well as the patients' perspective as to how the staff deals with problems. Further evaluation will show the results obtained with a larger patient population. Then, the results presented will be reevaluated and an adaptation will account for influential factors
