Ensemble DNN for Age-of-Information Minimization in UAV-assisted Networks

This paper addresses the problem of Age-of-Information (AoI) in UAV-assisted networks. Our objective is to minimize the expected AoI across devices by optimizing UAVs' stopping locations and device selection probabilities. To tackle this problem, we first derive a closed-form expression of the expected AoI that involves the probabilities of selection of devices. Then, we formulate the problem as a non-convex minimization subject to quality of service constraints. Since the problem is challenging to solve, we propose an Ensemble Deep Neural Network (EDNN) based approach which takes advantage of the dual formulation of the studied problem. Specifically, the Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) in the ensemble are trained in an unsupervised manner using the Lagrangian function of the studied problem. Our experiments show that the proposed EDNN method outperforms traditional DNNs in reducing the expected AoI, achieving a remarkable reduction of $29.5\%$.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure

Chemical Composition of Distilled Essential Oils and Hydrosols of Four Senegalese Citrus and Enantiomeric Characterization of Chiral Compounds

Peels of four local Citrus species (Citrus sinensis L. Obsbeck, Citrus reticulata Blanco, Citrus maxima Burm. and Citrus aurantifolia christm.) grown in a same locality under the same climatic conditions were subjected to steam distillation. The essential oils and floral waters obtained were analyzed by gas chromatography coupled with a flame ionization detector (CPG-FID) and by gas chromatography coupled to a mass spectrometer (CPG-MS). The essential oils yields were ranged between 0.2 and 0.7 %. The qualitative and quantitative analyses show 74 compounds in all oils samples. The oils were largely dominated by hydrocarbon monoterpenes with limonene as major compound (91.5-94.0 %; 90.4-93.4 %; 77.7-93.7 % and 34.8-51.2 %) in oils from Citrus sinensis, Citrus reticulata, Citrus maxima and Citrus aurantifolia, respectively. In addition to limonene, oils of Citrus aurantifolia contained high amounts of β-pinene (6.8-14.4 %), pcymene (5.8-12.2 %), γ-terpinene (0.3 -7.4 %), neral (1.5-9.4 %), geraniol (1.9-12.7 %). Although presenting the same major compound (limonene), the oils had compositions that were qualitatively and quantitatively different. The enantiomeric analyses showed that the chiral major compounds were (R) - (+) - limonene, (S) - (-) – limonene, (1S) - (-) -β-pinene, (1R)-(+)-β-pinene and (S) - (+) - carvone. The hydrosols analyzed were composed of oxygenated compounds and did not have the same major compound. Production d’alevins de Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) avec 3 aliments à base de sous-produits agro-industriels au Nord du Sénégal

L’étude a été réalisée dans un étang de la station piscicole de Richard TOLL au Nord du Sénégal entre 2013 et 2014. Elle a permis de tester la performance de deux aliments à base de sous-produits agro industriels locaux (A1 et A2) à un aliment (A3) importé de la Chine sur la croissance des alevins de tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) du fleuve Sénégal. Les qualités nutritionnelles des aliments A1, A2 et A3 sur la croissance et le taux de mortalités des alevins sont déterminés pour chaque aliment. La méthodologie est accentuée sur la mesure des paramètres physico-chimiques, le suivi de la croissance des alevins et le test en triplicata de ces trois aliments dans des appas de 2m3. Les résultats obtenus ont montré que l’aliment A2 a donné les meilleures performances que l’aliment A1 avec des croissances moyennes individuelles respectives de 0,21±0,04g/j et 0,12±0,03g/j. Les gains de poids moyens et taux de conversion alimentaire sont respectivement 3,09±0,53g et 1,79±0,26 g pour l’aliment A2 et 1,82±0,45g et 1,64±0,01 g pour l’aliment A1. Assessment of Rice Inbred Lines and Hybrids under Low Fertilizer Levels in Senegal

This research was conducted at the Africa Rice Sahel Regional Station (near Saint Louis, Senegal) during two wet seasons (i.e., July to November) in 2010 and 2011 with the aim of assessing the performances of introduced hybrid cultivars along with an inbred check cultivar under low input fertilizer levels. The five treatments used in this study were (a) the control (without any fertilizer application), (b) 37.5-4.4-8.3 kg N-P-K ha(-1), (c) half of recommend application in Senegal (75-8.75-16.5 kg N-P-K ha(-1)), (d) 112.5-13.3-24.8 kg N-P-K ha(-1), and (e) the recommended application in the country (150-17.5-33 kg N-P-K ha(-1)). There were significant year and cultivar effects for all traits. The fertilizer levels affected significantly most traits except panicle length and 1000-grain weight. The year x fertilizer level and year x cultivar interactions were significant for most traits, but the fertilizer level x cultivar and year x fertilizer level x cultivar interactions were not significant. Days to maturity, plant height, panicle per m2, and grain yield increased with increasing fertilizer levels during the two wet seasons. The grain yield of rice hybrids (bred by the International Rice Research Institute) was not significantly higher than that of the check cultivar widely grown in Senegal. The assessment of other rice hybrid germplasm showing more adaptability to low fertilizer levels will facilitate further hybrid cultivar development in Africa
