A Multi-Membership Catalogue for 1876 Open Clusters using UCAC4 data

The main objective of this work is to determine the cluster members of 1876 open clusters, using positions and proper motions of the astrometric catalogue UCAC4. For this purpose we apply three different methods, all them based on a Bayesian approach, but with different formulations: a purely parametric method, another completely non-parametric algorithm, and a third, recently developed by Sampedro & Alfaro, using both formulations at different steps of the whole process. The first and second statistical moments of the members phase-space subspace, obtained after applying the three methods, are compared for every cluster. Although, on average, the three methods yield similar results, specific differences between them, as well as for some particular clusters, are also present. The comparison with other published catalogues shows good agreement. We have also estimated for the first time the mean proper motion for a sample of 18 clusters. The results are organized in a single catalogue formed by two main files, one with the most relevant information for each cluster, partially including that in UCAC4, and the other showing the individual membership probabilities for each star in the cluster area. The final catalogue, with an interface design that enables an easy interaction with the user, is available in electronic format at SSG-IAA (http://ssg.iaa.es/en/content/sampedro-cluster-catalog) website.Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS. 9 pages, 3 figures, 6 table

Development of a test method for investigating moisture transfer rate of textiles

Moisture management textiles have proved to be one of the fastest growing sector in textiles. New research and development of these textiles have pushed the boundaries of textile testing equipment as new test methods are required. This paper will focus on the development of test method with potential application in testing and analyzing of textile fabrics which can be used in moisture management industry. A new system has been developed which allows fabrics moisture transmission to be tested whilst situated between two variable conditions mini chambers. The system allows moisture level to be monitored by precision weight scale and all the real-time data can be controlled and analyzed by computer. The system was tested by using a knitted spacer fabric and proved to be useful and reliable kit for analysis of moisture transmission at various testing conditions

Signatures of quantum phase transitions in parallel quantum dots: Crossover from local-moment to underscreened spin-1 Kondo physics

We study a strongly interacting "quantum dot 1" and a weakly interacting "dot 2" connected in parallel to metallic leads. Gate voltages can drive the system between Kondo-quenched and non-Kondo free-moment phases separated by Kosterlitz-Thouless quantum phase transitions. Away from the immediate vicinity of the quantum phase transitions, the physical properties retain signatures of first-order transitions found previously to arise when dot 2 is strictly noninteracting. As interactions in dot 2 become stronger relative to the dot-lead coupling, the free moment in the non-Kondo phase evolves smoothly from an isolated spin-one-half in dot 1 to a many-body doublet arising from the incomplete Kondo compensation by the leads of a combined dot spin-one. These limits, which feature very different spin correlations between dot and lead electrons, can be distinguished by weak-bias conductance measurements performed at finite temperatures.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures.

Automated search for star clusters in large multiband surveys: II. Discovery and investigation of open clusters in the Galactic plane

    Get PDF
Automated search for star clusters in J,H,K_s data from 2MASS catalog has been performed using the method developed by Koposov et. al (2008). We have found and verified 153 new clusters in the interval of the galactic latitude -24 < b < 24 degrees. Color excesses E(B-V), distance moduli and ages were determined for 130 new and 14 yet-unstudied known clusters. In this paper, we publish a catalog of coordinates, diameters, and main parameters of all the clusters under study. A special web-site available at http://ocl.sai.msu.ru has been developed to facilitate dissemination and scientific usage of the results.Comment: 9 pages, 3 tables, 5 figures, accepted to Astronomy Letter
