Cooperative effects in surfactant adsorption layers at water/alkane interfaces

    No full text
In the present work, the properties of dodecyl dimethyl phosphine oxide (C12DMPO) at the water/decane interface are studied and compared with those obtained earlier at the interface to hexane. To simulate the interfacial behavior, a two-component thermodynamic model is proposed, which combines the equation of state and Frumkin isotherm for decane with the reorientation model involving the intrinsic compressibility for the surfactant. In this approach, the surface activity of decane is governed by its interaction with C12DMPO. The theory predicts the influence of decane on the decrease of the surface tension at a very low surfactant concentration for realistic values of the ratio of the adsorbed amounts of decane and surfactant. The surfactantrsquo;s distribution coefficient between the aqueous and decane phases is determined. Two types of adsorption systems were used: a decane drop immersed into the C12DMPO aqueous solution, and a water drop immersed into the C12DMPO solution in decane. To determine the distribution coefficient, a method based on the analysis of the transfer of C12DMPO between water and decane is also employed

To determine the antiviral activity of various biologically active compounds, the model of adenovirus infection on the basis of cell cultures of human HEK293A and recombinant adenovirus Ad-EGFP, expressing green fluorescent protein EGFP. Adenoviruses have a capsid size of 70-90 nm and are able to infect dividing and nondividing cells in vitro and in vivo. Recombinant adenoviruses are the replicative defect in the cells of humans and animals. The developed model allowed us to determine the effect of bacterial proteases in the infected cell cultures with adenovirus. This model can also be used for screening drugs with potential protivivovirusnoy activity

The article is devoted to the study of clinical symptoms and laboratory changes at parvovirus B19 infection in children during the rise of the incidence of infectious erythema. 44 children ailing with laboratory confirmed parvovirus B19 infection aging from 2 months to 14 years were complexly examined. It was established that the disease occurs mainly in boys of preschool and early school age, with a seasonal rise in April and May. General infectious syndrome and syndrome of exanthema dominate the clinical picture. Infectious erythema has benign course.

Glutamyl endopeptidase of Bacillus intermedius strain 3-19. Purification, properties, and crystallization

A homogeneous glutamyl endopeptidase splitting peptide bonds of glutamic and, rarely, of aspartic acid residues in peptides and proteins was isolated from Bacillus intermedius 3-19 culture filtrate using chromatography on CM-cellulose and Mono S. The enzyme molecular mass is 29 kD and the p/ is 8.4. The proteinase is inhibited by DFP. The enzyme, like other glutamyl endopeptidases, reveals two pH optima (pH 7.5 and 9.0) for casein and one (pH 8.0) for Z-Glu-pNA hydrolysis. The Km for the hydrolysis of the latter substrate is 6 mM. The enzyme activity is optimal at 55°C. The enzyme is stable in the pH range 6.5-11.0. Its N-terminal sequence shows 56% coinciding residues when compared with that of Bacillus licheniformis glutamyl endopeptidase. Crystal prisms or plates 0.25-0.3 × 0.15 × 0.07-0.1 mm have been grown using the vapor diffusion technique in a hanging drop followed by macroseeding. The crystals belong to the space group B2 with the following unit cell parameters: a = 69.59 Å; b = 61.61 Å; c = 56.11 Å; γ = 117.57°. The X-ray data set to 1.7 Å resolution has been collected on an automatic synchrotron (EMBL Hamburg Station)

Article is devoted to studying of the submitted epidemiological, clinical, tool, laboratory data on pathology of cardiovascular system at various viral infections. The review is based on results of domestic and foreign researches. At viral infections damage of heart and his carrying-out system perhaps as during the sharp period of a disease, and the period of a convalescence or at the chronic course of virus process. The greatest cardiothrogenism is possessed by enteroviruses, which affect the myocardium in 5–15% of cases. Much attention is paid to herpesviruses, widespread, persistently persistent in the body, as one of the reasons for the development of dilated cardiomyopathy, coronary vasculitis, early atherosclerosis, cardiac rhythm disturbance. Other infections that may affect the cardiovascular system include influenza viruses, adenovirus, poliovirus, Epstein-Barr virus, cytomegalovirus, human immunodeficiency virus, hepatitis, mumps, rubella, herpes simplex, varicella, arbovirus, respiratory-syntial virus, yellow fever virus et al. Complications from cardiovascular system can come to light at various age.
