    Karlsruhe Boat

Karlsruhe Boat is a project for the main venue in the German city of EnBW, a society dealing with and trading energy, and consists of a real size boat – situated in a small fountain-like pool of water indoor - that paradoxically deforms itself climbing up on the wall of the building. Even this sculpture creates a decompensation of perception, which is typical of the Austrian artist, where an object totally defunctionalized subverts its normal role and does something ironic and totally out of the ordinary logic. In this case the boat stands on a small and thin layer of water, placed almost vertically to the floor itself, and magically folds, almost crashing against the wall, in a process of deformation that we can find in some important series of the artist’s work

    Mind Bubbles

Mind Bubbles is a project designed as an installation for the entrance hall of the head office of the Volksbank Wien, a building by the german architect Carsten Roth. The sculptures seem to be suspended in the air, as if a device had frozen them: a process that inflates, distorts, makes things bigger and smaller, creates unexpected shapes and new realities that become an inspiration for our everyday life. The use of ordinary objects, such as clothes, is typical of the artist work, as we can see in his well-known One minute sculptures, and in particular in the sculptures he realised with stuffed clothing. These are materials that – standing outside tradition – allow the artist to experiment a new approach to the medium of sculpture

    Get PDF

    Get PDF
Friedrich Schiller wrote several dramas for the theatre, but with time they started to disappear from the stage, firstly because the Romantic taste was fading, secondly because of the great number of characters needed, a practical reason that caused a quite diffused avoidance of Schiller’s drama. One of the way for Schillerian drama to survive, was through its ‘translation’ into melodrama, into opera librettos. In the essay, two famous melodrama adaptations from Schiller’s theatre are analysed: "Guillaume Tell" by Gioacchino Rossini (1829) and "Luisa Miller" by Giuseppe Verdi (1849). The study concerns the processes of thematic reorganization, of formal reconfiguration, and of ideological elaboration which took place in order to meet the expectations of historically and socially different audiences.

Kinetic Analysis of Lower Body Resistance Training Exercises

    Get PDF
This study evaluated and compared the peak vertical ground reaction force (GRF) and rate of force development (RFD) for the eccentric and concentric phases of 4 lower body resistance training exercises, including the back squat, deadlift, step-up, and forward lunge. Sixteen women performed 2 repetitions of each of the 4 exercises at a 6 repetition maximum load. Kinetic data were acquired using a force platform. A repeated measures ANOVA was used to evaluate the differences in GRF between the exercises. Results revealed significant main effects for GRF both the eccentric (p ≤ 0.001) and concentric (p ≤ 0.001) phases. Significant main effects were also found for RFD for the eccentric (p ≤ 0.001) and concentric phases (p ≤ 0.001). Force and power requirements and osteogenic potential differ between these resistance training exercises

Carbonate Concretions in the Karlicher Loess Profile, Rheinland

    Get PDF
A loess profile near the town of Karlich in the Rhein-land of Western Germany contains various forms of carbonate which are described in detail. A systematic relationship concerning a transition from finely divided grains of carbonate to large complex concretions is given. The stratigraphic presence of three distinct zones of carbonate concretions and the results of analysis for carbonate content in the entire profile are presented as additional evidence for a ternary (and possibly a quaternary) climatic differentiation of the most recent glacial stage in the Middle Rhein region
