    Analysis of a dry friction problem under small displacements: application to a bolted joint

    This study presents an analysis of the problem of macroscopic contact of steel upon steel with dry friction, in the specific case of a bolted joint. The configurations of these types of joints result in very small displacements and interface sliding velocities. To understand how the system formed by the two surfaces in contact works, an experiment was carried out. The analysis of the results obtained made it possible to define the behavior of the system and to model the variations of the main parameters by original and continuous laws. These laws accurately correlate to all the results of the tests effectuated

    Meeting Future Energy Needs in the Hindu Kush Himalaya

    As mentioned in earlier chapters, the HKH regions form the entirety of some countries, a major part of other countries, and a small percentage of yet others. Because of this, when we speak about meeting the energy needs of the HKH region we need to be clear that we are not necessarily talking about the countries that host the HKH, but the clearly delineated mountainous regions that form the HKH within these countries. It then immediately becomes clear that energy provisioning has to be done in a mountain context characterized by low densities of population, low incomes, dispersed populations, grossly underdeveloped markets, low capabilities, and poor economies of scale. In other words, the energy policies and strategies for the HKH region have to be specific to these mountain contexts

    In this study, a new version EMPIRE 3.2 code was used in the cross section calculations of (n,p) reactions and in the calculation of proton emission spectra produced by (n,xp) reactions. Exciton model predictions combined with the Kalbach angular distribution systematics were used and some parameters such as those of mean free path, cluster emission in terms of Iwamoto-Harada model, optical model potentials of Morillon for neutrons and protons in the energy range up to 20 MeV, level density for spherical nuclei of Gilbert-Cameron model and width fluctuation correction in terms of compound nucleus have been investigated our calculations. The excitation functions and the proton emission spectra for 32,34S nuclei were calculated, discussed and found in good agreement with available experimental data
