Vertical motions in the disk of NGC 5668 as seen with optical Fabry-Perot spectroscopy

We have observed the nearly face-on spiral galaxy NGC 5668 with the TAURUS II Fabry-Perot interferometer at the William Herschel Telescope using the HαH\alpha line to study the kinematics of the ionized gas. From the extracted data cube we construct intensity, velocity and velocity dispersion maps. We calculate the rotation curve in the innermost 2 arcmin and we use the residual velocity field to look for regions with important vertical motions. By comparing the geometry of these regions in the residual velocity field with the geometry in the intensity and velocity dispersion maps we are able to select some regions which are very likely to be shells or chimneys in the disk. The geometry and size of these regions are very similar to the shells or chimneys detected in other galaxies by different means. Moreover, it is worth noting than this galaxy has been reported to have a population of neutral hydrogen high velocity clouds (Schulman et al. 1996) which, according to these observations, could have been originated by chimneys similar to those reported in this paper.Comment: 7 pages with 9 figures. Radiative vector meson decay

We study the radiative ρ\rho, ω\omega and ϕ\phi decay into π0π0γ\pi^0 \pi^0 \gamma and π0ηγ\pi^0 \eta \gamma taking into account mechanisms in which there are two sequential vector-vector-pseudoscalar or axial-vector--vector--pseudoscalar steps followed by the coupling of a vector meson to the photon, considering the final state interaction of the two mesons. Other mechanisms in which two kaons are produced through the same sequential mechanisms or from vector meson decay into two kaons which undergo final state interaction leading to the final pair of pions or π0η\pi^0 \eta, are also considered. The results of the parameter free theory, together with the theoretical uncertainties, are compared with the latest experimental results at Frascati and Novosibirsk.Comment: Prepared for the 10th International Symposium on Meson-Nucleon Physics and the Structure of the Nucleo

Baryonic Resonances from the Interactions of the Baryon Decuplet and Meson Octet

We study SS-wave interactions of the baryon decuplet with the octet of pseudoscalar mesons using the lowest order chiral Lagrangian. We find two bound states in the SU(3) limit corresponding to the octet and decuplet representations. These are found to split into eight different trajectories in the complex plane when the SU(3) symmetry is broken gradually. Finally, we are able to provide a reasonable description for a good number of 4-star 3/2{{3/2}}^- resonances listed by the Particle Data Group. In particular, the Ξ(1820)\Xi(1820), the Λ(1520)\Lambda(1520) and the Σ(1670)\Sigma(1670) states are well reproduced. We predict a few other resonances and also evaluate the couplings of the observed resonances to the various channels from the residues at the poles of the scattering matrix from where partial decay widths into different channels can be evaluated.Comment: Contribution to the HADRON05 Conference, Rio de Janeiro, September 200

    Double Pion Photoproduction in Nuclei

The inclusive A(gamma,pi+ pi-)X reaction is studied theoretically. A sizeable enhancement of the cross section is found, in comparison with the scaling of the deuteron cross section (sigma_deuteron * A/2). This enhancement is due to the modifications in the nuclear medium of the gamma N ----> pi pi N amplitude and the pion dispersion relation. The enhancement is found to be bigger than the one already observed in the (pi,pi pi) reaction in nuclei.Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures (figures available from authors); TeX, Version 3.141 [PD VMS 3.4/CERN 1.0

Nucleon Emision Off Nuclei Induced By Neutrino Interactions

We make a review of the main nuclear effects that affect neutrino-nucleus cross sections. We discuss how the different models in the literature try to describe these different effects, and thus try to compare between them. We focus on the quasi-elastic reaction in the neutrino energy region of around 1 GeV, where recent data from MiniBoone are available. Among the issues discussed are the different treatment of medium corrections to initial and nal state nucleon wave functions and the problem of the rescattering of ejected nucleons.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures.
