Cavity Optomechanics with a Laser Engineered Optical Trap
Laser engineered exciton-polariton networks could lead to dynamically
configurable integrated optical circuitry and quantum devices. Combining cavity
optomechanics with electrodynamics in laser configurable hybrid designs
constitutes a platform for the vibrational control, conversion, and transport
of signals. With this aim we investigate 3D optical traps laser-induced in
quantum-well embedded semiconductor planar microcavities. We show that the
laser generated and controlled discrete states of the traps dramatically modify
the interaction between photons and phonons confined in the resonators,
accessing through coupling of photoelastic origin
MHz an optomechanical cooperativity for mW excitation. The quenching of
Stokes processes and double-resonant enhancement of anti-Stokes ones involving
pairs of discrete optical states in the side-band resolved regime, allows the
optomechanical cooling of 180 GHz bulk acoustic waves, starting from room
temperature down to K. These results pave the way for dynamical
tailoring of optomechanical actuation in the extremely-high-frequency range
(30-300 GHz) for future network and quantum technologies.Comment: 22 pages, 14 figure
A model for two-proton emission induced by electron scattering
A model to study two-proton emission processes induced by electron scattering
is developed. The process is induced by one-body electromagnetic operators
acting together with short-range correlations, and by two-body
currents. The model includes all the diagrams containing a single correlation
function. A test of the sensitivity of the model to the various theoretical
inputs is done. An investigation of the relevance of the currents is
done by changing the final state angular momentum, excitation energy and
momentum transfer. The sensitivity of the cross section to the details of the
correlation function is studied by using realistic and schematic correlations.
Results for C, O and Ca nuclei are presented.Comment: 30 pages, 18 figures, 3 table
Superscaling in electroweak excitation of nuclei
Superscaling properties of 12C, 16O and 40Ca nuclear responses, induced by
electron and neutrino scattering, are studied for momentum transfer values
between 300 and 700 MeV/c. We have defined two indexes to have quantitative
estimates of the scaling quality. We have analyzed experimental responses to
get the empirical values of the two indexes. We have then investigated the
effects of finite dimensions, collective excitations, meson exchange currents,
short-range correlations and final state interactions. These effects strongly
modify the relativistic Fermi gas scaling functions, but they conserve the
scaling properties. We used the scaling functions to predict electron and
neutrino cross sections and we tested their validity by comparing them with the
cross sections obtained with a full calculation. For electron scattering we
also made a comparison with data. We have calculated the total charge-exchange
neutrino cross sections for neutrino energies up to 300 MeV.Comment: 19 pages, 12 figures, 1 table; to be published in Physical Review
Mirizzi syndrome-differential diagnosis with cholangiocarcinoma: case report
Mirizzi syndrome is a rare complication of gallstone disease and poses a diagnostic challenge for general surgeons due to its clinical presentation, which resembles other pathological entities such as cholangiocarcinoma. We present a clinical case of a 68-year-old female patient with symptoms of jaundice and right upper quadrant pain. During the patient's diagnostic workup, altered liver function tests were documented, highlighting obstructive pattern hyperbilirubinemia, elevated tumor marker CA 19.9, and suspicion of biliary tract tumor based on imaging studies. However, surgical and pathological confirmation revealed Mirizzi syndrome. This case emphasizes the importance of considering differential diagnoses in patients presenting with obstructive jaundice to provide timely and appropriate treatment

Biostimulants as an Alternative to Improve the Wine Quality from Vitis vinifera (cv. Tempranillo) in La Rioja
The application of biostimulants appears to be an environmentally friendly, innovative, and sustainable agronomical tool to mitigate the negative effects induced by adverse climatology in traditional grape-growing regions such as La Rioja (Spain). However, their mechanism of action in grapevines is still unclear. We evaluated how commercial substances (two from Ascophyllum nodosum extraction and one amino acids-based biostimulant) and the non-proteinogenic amino acid β-aminobutyric acid (BABA) affect the quality and quantity of musts and grapes in Vitis vinifera L. cv. Tempranillo from a semi-arid region of La Rioja during two seasons. We hypothesized an enhancement in organic metabolites in berries and leaves in response to these treatments, changing the organoleptic characteristics of the final products. The treatments altered the primary metabolites such as carbohydrates, organic acids (AcOrg), and free amino acids, first in the leaves as the effect of the foliar application and second in grapes and musts. As the main result, the biostimulant efficiency depended on the climatology and vineyard location to improve the final yield. Whereas biostimulant application enhanced the yield in 2018 (less dry year), it did not help production in 2019 (dry year). BABA was the most efficient biostimulant, enhancing plant production. Regarding yield quality, the biostimulant application improved the musts mainly by enhancing the fumaric acid content and by reducing carbohydrates, except in BABA-treated plants, where they were accumulated. These results corroborate biostimulants as an exciting approach in wine production, especially for improving wine quality. This work was funded by the ERDF project “Plants as a tool for sustainable global development” (no. Spectroscopic signatures of extratidal stars around the globular clusters NGC 6656 (M 22), NGC 3201, and NGC 1851 from RAVE
Context. Stellar population studies of globular clusters have suggested that the brightest clusters in the Galaxy might actually be the remnant nuclei of dwarf spheroidal galaxies. If the present Galactic globular clusters formed within larger stellar systems, they are likely to be surrounded by extratidal halos and/or tails made up of stars that were tidally stripped from their parent systems. Aims. The stellar surroundings around globular clusters are therefore one of the best places to look for the remnants of an ancient dwarf galaxy. Here an attempt is made to search for tidal debris around the supernovae enriched globular clusters M? 22 and NGC 1851, as well as the kinematically unique cluster NGC 3201. Methods. The stellar parameters from the RAdial Velocity Experiment (RAVE) are used to identify stars with the RAVE metallicities, radial velocities, and elemental abundances that are consistent with the abundance patterns and properties of the stars in M? 22, NGC 1851, and NGC 3201. Results. Discovery of RAVE stars that may be associated with M? 22 and NGC 1851 are reported, some of which are at projected distances ∼10 degrees away from the core of these clusters. Numerous RAVE stars associated with NGC 3201 suggest that either the tidal radius of this cluster is underestimated or that there are some unbound stars extending a few arc minutes from the edge of the cluster's radius. No other extratidal stars associated with NGC 3201 could be identified. The bright magnitudes of the RAVE stars make them easy targets for high-resolution follow-up observations, eventually allowing further chemical tagging to solidify (or exclude) stars outside the tidal radius of the cluster as tidal debris. In both our radial velocity histograms of the regions surrounding NGC 1851 and NGC 3201, a peak of stars at ∼230 km? s-1 is seen, consistent with extended tidal debris from ω Centauri
