Conflict at our times. A pedagogical glance.
The possibility, implied in the concept of action, of giving birth to something new, of modifying oneself, shaping oneself, and one’s surrondings, leads to repeatedly getting in conflict with oneself and others. Actions is always inter- action; each action carries with itself consequences for the self and for others. An action implies the possibility of a conflict in the same way as an agent implies a patient. The relationship is inherently one of contrast. It involves differences, and differences - as such - tend to generate conflict and remain in mutual strain. Since ancient times, individuals and groups have had to face with this inherent dimension of existing-amidst-others. However, contemporary society, more than preceding ones, is to face with increasingly conflictual situations, because of its complex and multiethnic features. Conflicts become the inevitable ground where to co-exist but at the same time they turn into a privileged chance of building the self. In order to offer educational guidelines which may meet the needs of a multicultural society, intercultural pedagogy promotes the acquisition of skills which may enable the individual to deal with conflicts and to transform them into self-educational context, into a relational practice able to create spaces of civility where it is possible to build new worlds together

GT: Picking up the Truth from the Ground for Internet Traffic
Much of Internet traffic modeling, firewall, and intrusion detection research requires traces where some ground truth regarding application and protocol is associated with each packet or flow. This paper presents the design, development and experimental evaluation of gt, an open source software toolset for associating ground truth information with Internet traffic traces. By probing the monitored host's kernel to obtain information on active Internet sessions, gt gathers ground truth at the application level. Preliminary exper- imental results show that gt's effectiveness comes at little cost in terms of overhead on the hosting machines. Furthermore, when coupled with other packet inspection mechanisms, gt can derive ground truth not only in terms of applications (e.g., e-mail), but also in terms of protocols (e.g., SMTP vs. POP3
Doing Research Through Descriptions of Teachers
The idea that teaching is a complex set of practices, deep-rooted in teachers’ personal “being-in-the-world”, underlies this research which employs a phenomenological approach in order to gain an indepth understanding of the teaching experience as it is perceived and thought of by those who are personally involved in it. The research objectives involve both methodological reflection on and knowledge development of teachers’ experience. Qualitative conversational interview is the research technique we have used. This reflection originates from a two-year study of teachers’ knowledge about practice: thirty-five teachers were involved each one of whom was interviewed twice. The analysis of the interviews has led to a complex vision of teaching practice, seen from the teachers’ viewpoint. The core of their descriptions concerns several different meanings, expressed by all the teachers of all school grades, creating a composite profile of what teachers consider as essential in their practice. The data analysis led to the recognition of the presence of two main areas of teachers' practice. A research on the meanings teachers develop about their practice can be significant at two different levels: i. methodological; ii. About practical knowledge in schoolwork
