Neurogenic Benign Fasciculations, Pseudomyotonia, and Pseudotetany: A Disease in Search of a Name

    No full text
We studied two patients with abnormal spontaneous muscular activity. The first had widespread fasciculations, painful spasms, delayed muscular relaxation, and hyperhidrosis. Improvement occurred after several years. The second case had generalized paresthesia, mild stiffness, a positive result from Trousseau's test, and was relieved by administration of carbamazepine. Both patients had abnormal conduction velocity. Examination of muscle biopsy specimens disclosed fiber type grouping and increased collateral ramification of motor axons. These observations exemplify symptoms and signs that resemble those of myotonia and tetany and occasionally occur in partial denervation. They provide additional evidence of the neurogenic nature of Isaacs-Mertens syndrome. © 1981, American Medical Association. All rights reserved.SCOPUS: ar.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

Theoretical and practical importance of plasma levels of haloperidol. correlations with clinical and computerized EEG data

    No full text
    1. 1. Haloperidol plasma levels, after long acting haloperidol i.m. injection, are analyzed and compared with clinical evolution and EEG modifications. 2. 2. Haloperidol plasma levels were determined by radioimmunoassay. Clinical status was assessed weekly and computerized EEG were performed daily from day 3 to 7 after haloperidol decanoate injection. 3. 3. The plasma level-dose relationship during oral treatment and 4 weeks after haloperidol decanoate injection are very similar. After injection, the plasma level attains its highest value within 3 to 10 days and decreases along a logarithmic curve. An inverse relationship with B.P.R.S.scores is found in many patients. EEG changes are related to clinical status rather than to plasma levels. 4. 4. The results obtained by these three methods are proposed as criteria for the assessment of the reinjection time. © 1981.SCOPUS: ar.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

Le syndrome du canal carpien. Études comparatives pré- et postopératoires entre résonance magnétique et électromyographie

A comparative wrist study was conducted in a total of 36 subjects: 20 normal volunteers and 16 patients with diagnosed carpal tunnel syndrome. 1,5 Tesla MR was used with a cylindrical extremity coll. The authors reviewed the anatomy of the wrist in the normal subjects. The accuracy of MR diagnostic criteria for carpal tunnel syndrome was assessed in comparison with EMG results and surgical findings. The authors conclude that MRI has proved to be reliable and useful in the diagnostic work up of carpal tunnel syndrome. Its main indication would be in cases of negative or doubtful EMG.SCOPUS: ar.jSCOPUS: ar.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

Unclassified familial myopathy resembling Steinert disease, without myotonia

    No full text
A familial myopathy with predominantly proximal muscle atrophy is described. Although several clinical features such as sternomastoid and brachioradialis muscle involvement suggested Steinert disease, myotonia was not demonstrated by clinical examination or EMG. Histological data were consistent with myotonic dystrophy.SCOPUS: ar.jFLWNAinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

The technology of preparing green coating by conducting micro-arc oxidation on AZ91D magnesium alloy

    No full text
Micro-arc oxidation was applied to AZ91D magnesium alloy by taking K2Cr2O7 as the colouring salt in the silicate system. It was shown that the green coating obtained through performing micro-arc oxidation on magnesium alloy consisted of Mg, Mg2SiO4, MgO, and MgCr2O4 based on analysis of X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Among which, MgCr2O4 was the colouring salt; there were something in the lamellar, pit, and convex forms found on the surface of the coating. The coating consisted of a porous, and a compact, layer from the outside to the inside. As demonstrated, the colour of the coating depended on the K2Cr2O7 concentration: it became gradually deeper with the addition of K2Cr2O7 and the increasing micro-arc oxidation time. The corrosion resistance and hardness of the green coating were greater than that of the matrix
