A fractal approach to the rheology of concentrated cell suspensions
Results on the rheological behavior of novel CHO cell suspensions in a large
range of concentrations are reported. The concentration dependent yield stress
and elastic plateau modulus are formalized in the context of fractal aggregates
under shear, and quite different exponents are found as compared to the case of
red blood cell suspensions. This is explained in terms of intrinsic microscopic
parameters such as the cell-cell adhesion energy and cell elasticity but also
the cell individual dynamic properties, found to correlate well with
viscoelastic data at large concentrations (phi>0.5).Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
John Carlos Rowe & Eric Haralson (eds). A Historical Guide To Henry James.
Like all the volumes belonging to the series entitled The Historical Guides to American Authors, this collection of critical essays on Henry James is both âinterdisciplinaryâ and âhistorically sensitive,â and combines close attention to one of the most widely read and studied American authors with a âstrong sense of time, place, and history,â and a focus on issues that can still be considered as contemporary. It is indeed tantalizing to realize, as the co-editors write, that âJamesâs populari..

Antideuteron production in proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions
The experimental data of the antideuteron production in proton-proton and
proton-nucleus collisions are analyzed within a simple model based on the
diagrammatic approach to the coalescence model. This model is shown to be able
to reproduce most of existing data without any additional parameter.Comment: To appear in Eur. Phys. J A (2002
A model for A=3 antinuclei production in proton-nucleus collisions
A simple coalescence model based on the same diagrammatic approach of
antimatter production in hadronic collisions as used previously for
antideuterons is used here for the hadroproduction of mass 3 antinuclei. It is
shown that the model is able to reproduce the existing experimental data on
Tbar and 3hebar production without any additional parameter.Comment: 7 figures. submitted to Eur. Phys. J.
Parameterization of the antiproton inclusive production cross section on nuclei
A new parameterization of the antiproton inclusive production cross section
in proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions is proposed. A sample of
consistent pA->pbar X$ experimental data sets measured on 1<A<208 nuclei, from
12 GeV up to 400 GeV incident energy, have been used to constrain the
parameters. A broader energy domain is covered for the pp->pbar X reaction with
a simplified functional form used in the fits. The agreement obtained with the
data is good. The results are discussed.Comment: 10 pages, 11 figures, 7 tables, submitted to Phys. Rev.
Synthesis of substituted tetrahydroisoquinolines by lithiation then electrophilic quench
Substituted N-tert-butoxycarbonyl (Boc)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolines were prepared and treated with
n-butyllithium in THF at â50 °C to test the scope of the metallation and electrophilic quench. The lithiation
was optimised by using in situ ReactIR spectroscopy and the rate of rotation of the carbamate was
determined. The 1-lithiated intermediates could be trapped with a variety of electrophiles to give good
yields of 1-substituted tetrahydroisoquinoline products. Treatment with acid or reduction with LiAlH4
allows conversion to the NâH or NâMe compound. The chemistry was applied to the efficient total
syntheses of the alkaloids (±)-crispine A and (±)-dysoxyline
