Deployable truss structure advanced technology
The 5-meter technology antenna program demonstrated the overall feasibility of integrating a mesh reflector surface with a deployable truss structure to achieve a precision surface contour compatible with future, high-performance antenna requirements. Specifically, the program demonstrated: the feasibility of fabricating a precision, edge-mounted, deployable, tetrahedral truss structure; the feasibility of adjusting a truss-supported mesh reflector contour to a surface error less than 10 mils rms; and good RF test performance, which correlated well with analytical predictions. Further analysis and testing (including flight testing) programs are needed to fully verify all the technology issues, including structural dynamics, thermodynamics, control, and on-orbit RF performance, which are associated with large, deployable, truss antenna structures

Resource Exchange: A Case Study
This paper describes a resource exchange program between two human service organizations: a public school board and a university. This case study illustrates the utility of the concept of resource exchange as a response to pressures for the effective management of limited human resources. With an emphasis on mutual goals, needs, and strengths, the resource exchange program expanded resources available to both organizations. For the public school board, new services in the form of primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention programs were developed. For the university, research and training opportunities were created. Finally, the fragmentation between and within the organizations was reduced in correspondence with their increased mutual interdependence
Analyses spectroscopiques d'un plasma CO2-N2 (97%-3%), de type atmosphère martienne, par torche ICP
Une torche à plasma à couplage inductif, fonctionnant à la pression atmosphérique, est utilisée pour créer un plasma à partir d'un mélange CO2-N2 reproduisant une atmosphère martienne (97%-3%). La fréquence ainsi que la puissance de fonctionnement de la torche ICP sont respectivement 64 Mhz et 3 kW. Ce type d'outil analytique permet d'obtenir un plasma relativement proche de l'équilibre thermodynamique. La caractérisation du plasma consistera dans un premier temps à déterminer la composition chimique; un code de calcul basé sur la minimisation de l'énergie libre de Gibbs est utilisé. Dans un second temps, les profils de températures seront données à travers les applications de l'inversion d'Abel des systèmes moléculaires considérés. Les mesures spectroscopiques couvrent le domaine [250-800] nm et sont réalisés à l'intérieur des spires inductives. Chaque spectre est ainsi comparé au code SESAM (Simulation de l'Emission Spectrale de l'Atmosphère de Mars)

Evaluated atomic data concerning the 4s and 4p configurations of Ar I are averaged in order to simplify their use in various cases of Ar plasma modeling and diagnostics. These data are used here to model a low-power arcjet, running with Argon at low pressure. In so doing, they are explicitly introduced in the chemical processes included in a fluid Navier-Stokes type code, allowing for evaluation of the spectroscopically measurable level populations and of the electronic temperatures. The characteristics of the model are described and the main processes are discussed in view of the results of the calculations
Modeling and experimental characterization of stepped and v-shaped {311} defects in silicon
Producción CientÃficaWe propose an atomistic model to describe extended {311} defects in silicon. It is based on the combination of interstitial and bond defect chains. The model is able to accurately reproduce not only planar {311} defects but also defect structures that show steps, bends, or both. We use molecular dynamics techniques to show that these interstitial and bond defect chains spontaneously transform into extended {311} defects. Simulations are validated by comparing with precise experimental measurements on actual {311} defects. The excellent agreement between the simulated and experimentally derived structures, regarding individual atomic positions and shape of the distinct structural {311} defect units, provides strong evidence for the robustness of the proposed model.Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (Proyect TEC2011-27701
Ab initio single-neutron spectroscopic overlaps in lithium isotopes
We calculate single-neutron spectroscopic overlaps for lithium isotopes in
the framework of the \textit{ab initio} symmetry-adapted no-core shell model.
We report the associated neutron-nucleus asymptotic normalization coefficients
(ANCs) and spectroscopic factors (SFs) that are important ingredients in many
reaction cross section calculations. While spectroscopic factors have been
traditionally extracted from experimental cross sections, their sensitivity on
the type of reactions, energy, and the underlying models point to the need for
determining SF from first-principle structure considerations. As illustrative
examples, we present Li+n, Li+n, and Li+n, and we show that the
results are in a good agreement with those of other \textit{ab initio} methods,
where available, including the quantum Monte Carlo approach. We compare ANCs
and SFs to available experimentally deduced values, with a view toward
expanding this study to heavier nuclei and to extracting inter-cluster
effective interactions for input into analyses of existing and future
