    Memories of Hyperdevelopment: Chongqing Trip Report

    Like any good Shanghai resident, I am more or less terrified by the China that exists outside of metro line 3. However, I had been obsessing for months about the municipality of Chongqing, a radically unusual city even by the standards of contemporary China. When I found that I had a spare weekend, I finally took a trip there to explore. Instead of describing my trip, or offering a journalistic take on the city à la Christina Larson, whose piece in Foreign Policy does that more competently than I could hope to, what follows is a series of meditations on Chongqing’s urbanism, in text and images. A Buenos Aires to Shanghai’s Paris, Chongqing has the air of being a forgotten or undiscovered metropolis, completely overshadowed by a more worldly and prominent counterpart. Shanghai’s new cityscape has received thorough attention from photographers such as Greg Girard, but Chongqing hasn’t yet been the focus of such work.     Oppgaven ser nærmere på sammenhengen mellom oppdragsbasert ledelse og risikovurderinger. Det teoretiske bakteppet er oppdragsbasertledelse, sikkerhet og risikovurdering. Kvalitativ metode er benyttet for å studere temaet. I det innledende arbeidet er deltagende observasjon brukt. Dette dannet videre grunnlaget for gjennomføring av intervjuer mot slutten av prosjektet, i henholdsvis Hans Majestet Kongens Garde og Garnisonen i Sør-Varanger. Oppgaven har hovedsakelig tre konklusjoner fra drøftingen av teori og våre funn: 1. Det har tilsynelatende vært en utvikling i bruken og forståelsen av oppdragsbasert ledelse blant ledere på ulike nivåer i perioden vi har gjennomført våre undersøkelser. Lederne blir mer bevisst hvordan de skal benytte oppdragsbasert ledelse. 2. Risikovurderingene foretas på ulike nivåer og nærme det utøvende nivået, spesielt gjelder dette uformelle risikovurderinger. 3. Oppdragsbasert ledelse er tilsynelatende lettere for ledere i Hæren å praktisere under øvelser og operasjoner enn ved risikovurderinger, men her er det nyanser der enkelte gjennom tillit delegerer risikovurderingen til det utøvende nivået

    Lösungen und Leitfäden für das institutionelle Forschungsdatenmanagement

    Hochschulen und deren Zentraleinrichtungen beschäftigen sich zunehmend mit dem Thema Forschungsdatenmanagement (FDM), um ihre Forschenden adäquat zu unterstützen. Nicht zuletzt aufgrund neuer Verlags- und Förderanforderungen wünschen sich Forschende Beratung und Orientierung, wie sie mit ihren Forschungsdaten umgehen sollen. Damit Hochschulen schnell und nachhaltig Lösungen zum institutionellen FDM etablieren können, haben fünf Berliner und Brandenburger Universitäten im gemeinsamen Verbundvorhaben FDMentor mit Förderung des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) entsprechende Leitfäden und Werkzeuge erarbeitet. Die innerhalb von zwei Jahren (2017–2019) entstandenen Ergebnisse in den Bereichen Strategieentwicklung, Forschungsdaten-Policy, rechtliche Aspekte und Kompetenzausbau finden über das Verbundprojekt hinaus ihre Anwendung.Peer Reviewe

    Measuring the Loschmidt amplitude for finite-energy properties of the Fermi-Hubbard model on an ion-trap quantum computer

    Calculating the equilibrium properties of condensed matter systems is one of the promising applications of near-term quantum computing. Recently, hybrid quantum-classical time-series algorithms have been proposed to efficiently extract these properties from a measurement of the Loschmidt amplitude ψeiH^tψ\langle \psi| e^{-i \hat H t}|\psi \rangle from initial states ψ|\psi\rangle and a time evolution under the Hamiltonian H^\hat H up to short times tt. In this work, we study the operation of this algorithm on a present-day quantum computer. Specifically, we measure the Loschmidt amplitude for the Fermi-Hubbard model on a 1616-site ladder geometry (32 orbitals) on the Quantinuum H2-1 trapped-ion device. We assess the effect of noise on the Loschmidt amplitude and implement algorithm-specific error mitigation techniques. By using a thus-motivated error model, we numerically analyze the influence of noise on the full operation of the quantum-classical algorithm by measuring expectation values of local observables at finite energies. Finally, we estimate the resources needed for scaling up the algorithm.Comment: 18 pages, 12 figure
