We report the thermal stability of spherically shaped cobalt-promoted molybdenum disulfide (Co/MoS2_{2}) nano-catalysts from in-situ heating under electron irradiation in the scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM) from room temperature to 550 °C ± 50 °C with aid of Fusion® holder (Protochip©, Inc.). The catalytic nanoparticles were synthesized via a hydrothermal method using sodium molybdate (Na2_{2}MoO4_{4}·2H2_{2}O) with thioacetamide (CH3_{3}CSNH2_{2}) and cobalt chloride (CoCl2_{2}) as promoter agent. The results indicate that the layered molybdenum disulfide structure with interplanar distance of ~0.62 nm remains stable even at temperatures of 550 °C, as observed in STEM mode. Subsequently, the samples were subjected to catalytic tests in a Robinson Mahoney Reactor using 30 g of Heavy Crude Oil (AGT-72) from the golden lane (Mexico’s east coast) at 50 atm using (ultrahigh purity) UHP hydrogen under 1000 rpm stirring at 350 °C for 8 h. It was found that there is no damage on the laminar stacking of Co/MoS2 with temperature, with interlayer spacing remaining at 0.62 nm; these sulfided catalytic materials led to aromatics rise of 22.65% and diminution of asphaltenes and resins by 15.87 and 3.53%, respectively

Hydrogen plays an important role in the industry due to its diverse applications. There are several processes to produce hydrogen, among which steam reforming is the most profitable; however, it is necessary to develop alternative processes to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. An alternative and viable way to obtain hydrogen is to generate it from glycerol, which produced excessively in the market because it is by product of biodiesel. In the other hand, the reaction of ionic liquids with metals was used to prepare N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes, offering an opportunity for industrial applications with minimal impact on the environment, they used as catalysts. In this work, the catalytic activity of the complexes (NHC) Pt and (NHC) Ni was evaluated in the reaction in aqueous phase of the glycerol; the reaction was carried out at relatively low temperatures and at high pressures compared with other methods

Exposure to Sodium Fluoride Produces Signs of Apoptosis in Rat Leukocytes

    Get PDF
Fluoride is naturally present in the earth’s crust and can be found in rocks, coal, and clay; thus, it can be found in small quantities in water, air, plants, and animals. Therefore, humans are exposed to fluoride through food, drinking water, and in the air they breathe. Flouride is essential to maintain bone strength and to protect against dental decay, but if it is absorbed too frequently, it can cause tooth decay, osteoporosis, and damage to kidneys, bones, nerves, and muscles. Therefore, the present work was aimed at determining the effect of intake of sodium fluoride (NaF) as an apoptosis inducer in leukocytes of rats treated for eight weeks with 1 or 50 parts per million (ppm) NaF. Expression of p53, bcl-2, and caspade-3 were used as apoptotic and general metabolism indicators of leukocyte-like indicators of the (INT) oxidation system. Male rats were exposed to NaF (1 and 500 ppm) for eight weeks, and then sacrificed weekly to obtain blood samples. Expression of p53, bcl-2, and caspase-3 were determined in leukocytes by Western blot, and general metabolism of leukocytes was analyzed with a commercial kit. We found changes in the expression of the proteins described, especially when the animals received 50 ppm of NaF. These results indicate that NaF intoxication can be an apoptosis inducer in rat leukocytes treated with the compound for eight weeks

Band Gap Tuning in 2D Layered Materials by Angular Rotation

    No full text
We present a series of computer-assisted high-resolution transmission electron (HRTEM) simulations to determine Moiré patters by induced twisting effects between slabs at rotational angles of 3°, 5°, 8°, and 16°, for molybdenum disulfide, graphene, tungsten disulfide, and tungsten selenide layered materials. In order to investigate the electronic structure, a series of numerical simulations using density functional methods (DFT) methods was completed using Cambridge serial total energy package (CASTEP) with a generalized gradient approximation to determine both the band structure and density of states on honeycomb-like new superlattices. Our results indicated metallic transitions when the rotation approached 8° with respect to each other laminates for most of the two-dimensional systems that were analyzed

Ecology of the Sontecomapan Lagoon, Veracruz

    No full text
Tropical coastal lagoon environments provide a number of ecosystem services, but are threatened by the pressure imposed by human activities and climatic change; these systems are particularly vulnerable because of a high demographic growth. Therefore, the understanding of their ecological behavior and the characterization of lagoon health indicators have attained importance. Under this perspective Mexican (UAM-X) and French (UMRs MIO and MARBEC) researchers have collaborated from 2011 to 2014 as part of one action of the international exchange program ECOS/ANUIES, and chose the Sontecomapan lagoon (at the Mexican state of Veracruz) as a case study. This book provides information of the ecological behavior, water quality indicators, and details of microorganisms and plankton, which due to their short life cycles and their high reactivity to environmental conditions are good
