The paper describes three of the Wageningen Evaluating Programmes for Analytical Laboratories (WEPAL). These include the analyses of numerous compounds and elements and different parameters such as inorganic chemical composition, organic matter, polycyclic hydrocarbons (PAH), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), organochlorine pesticides, some herbicides, heavy metals, particle size, and so on in soil, sediment, compost, manure, and sludge. One programme includes the analysis of inorganic chemical composition, nutritional values, and selected vitamins and amino acids in plant samples. Finally, the paper describes how the results are reported and statistically evaluated.Opisana su četiri Wageningenska programa za evaluaciju analitičkih laboratorija (Wageningen Evaluating Programmes for Analytical Laboratories – WEPAL). Tri programa uključuju analize brojnih spojeva i elemenata i određivanje raznih parametara – na primjer sadržaj anorganskih komponenata, sadržaj organske tvari, policiklični aromatski ugljikovodici (PAH), poliklorirani bifenili (PCB), organoklorni pesticidi, neki herbicidi, teški metali, veličina čestica itd. – u tlu, sedimentu, kompostu, gnojivu i mulju. Jedan program obuhvaća analize sadržaja anorganskih komponenata, sadržaj nekih vitamina i aminokiselina te nekih nutritivnih vrijednosti u uzorcima biljaka. Opisan je način izvještavanja rezultata i statističke evaluacije rezultata

    Islam, Politics and Change

After violent protests all over the country had forced President Suharto to step down in 1998, Indonesia successfully made the transition from an authoritarian state to a democracy. In this book Indonesian scholars attached to Islamic universities and Dutch researchers investigate what happened since and what the consequences are of the growing influence of orthodoxy and radicalism, which already visible before 1998, only got stronger. Free initial wave packets and the long-time behavior of the survival and nonescape probabilities

The behavior of both the survival S(t) and nonescape P(t) probabilities at long times for the one-dimensional free particle system is shown to be closely connected to that of the initial wave packet at small momentum. We prove that both S(t) and P(t) asymptotically exhibit the same power-law decrease at long times, when the initial wave packet in momentum representation behaves as O(1) or O(k) at small momentum. On the other hand, if the integer m becomes greater than 1, S(t) and P(t) decrease in different power-laws at long times.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, Title and organization changed, however the results not changed, To appear in Phys. The pathophysiology of vasovagal syncope: novel insights

    Get PDF
The pathophysiology of vasovagal syncope (VVS) is reviewed, focusing on hemodynamic aspects. Much more is known about orthostatic than about emotional VVS, probably because the former can be studied using a tilt table test (TTT). Recent advances made it possible to quantify the relative contributions of the three factors that control blood pressure: heart rate (HR), stroke volume (SV) and total peripheral resistance (TPR). Orthostatic VVS starts with venous pooling, reflected in a decrease of SV. This is followed by cardioinhibition (CI), which is a decrease of HR that accelerates the ongoing decrease of BP, making the start of CI a literal as well as fundamental turning point. The role of hormonal and other humoral factors, respiration and of psychological influences is reviewed in short, leading to the conclusion that a multidisciplinary approach to the study of the pathophysiology of VVS may yield new insights.Paroxysmal Cerebral Disorder

Walking Behavior Change Detector for a “Smart” Walker

    Get PDF
AbstractThis study investigates the design of a novel real-time system to detect walking behavior changes using an accelerometer on a rollator. No sensor is required on the user. We propose a new non-invasive approach to detect walking behavior based on the motion transfer by the user on the walker. Our method has two main steps; the first is to extract a gait feature vector by analyzing the three-axis accelerometer data in terms of magnitude, gait cycle and frequency. The second is to classify gait with the use of a decision tree of multilayer perceptrons. To assess the performance of our technique, we evaluated different sampling window lengths of 1, 3 an 5seconds and four different Neural Network architectures. The results revealed that the algorithm can distinguish walking behavior such as normal, slow and fast with an accuracy of about 86%. This research study is part of a project aiming at providing a simple and non-invasive walking behavior detector for elderly who use rollators
