Their level of sensitivity and environmental knowledge will play an important role in adequately facing future challenges. This article aims to measure the sustainability awareness of a sample of future graduates in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences in Spain. The literature supports that the sensitivity of these students can be estimated by using the Spanish adaptation of the SCQ-S. This allows for establishing the level of knowledge, attitudes and behaviour pertaining to sustainability in three dimensions: environmental, social and economic. The sample consisted of 170 students (58.8% males; 41.2% females) with a mean age of 20.5 years (±4.039). The overall Cronbach’s alpha showed a fairly good value (α = 0.836). The same was true for the Kaiser–Meyer–Olkin test values (KMO = 0.816) and Bartlett’s sphericity test (p < 0.001). The knowledge construct (4.56 ± 0.53) was the highest descriptive, followed by attitude (4.12 ± 0.59). The lowest value was behaviour (3.79 ± 0.66). By gender, girls obtained the highest sensitivity indexes. In addition, the place of habitual residence and physical activity in the natural environment were related to the overall behaviour of the university students. It is concluded that being in active contact with the natural environment allows us to have a higher level of awareness

    La presente investigación identifica los mecanismos de control de riesgo ergonómico que deben usarse para la prevención de desórdenes musculoesqueléticos en el personal de producción de la empresa Cosmética SAS. Este proceso investigativo, se logra a través de la realización de una encuesta con una muestra de 15 personas, que se realizaran a los operarios del área de producción. La función de la encuesta es analizar la forma y condiciones como son desarrolladas las tareas asignadas, para analizar la posible influencia en la aparición de trastornos musculoesqueléticos. Este proceso investigativo tiene como finalidad encontrar los factores, tanto laborales como extra-labores, a que está expuesto el personal de producción de la empresa Cosmética SAS, y que pueden generar, en dicha fuerza laboral trastornos musculoesqueléticos. Esto será evidencia suficiente para justificar la implementación de programas y mecanismos de prevención del riesgo ergonómico. Este proceso investigativo presenta los siguientes resultados; se pudo establecer que los trabajadores tienen un conocimiento aceptable del tema, además se encontró que entre el 29% y el 36% de los trabajadores permanecen durante su jornada laboral en posiciones tales como caminando, subiendo o bajando escaleras. Por otro lado, se considera la acción de sujetar objetos u herramientas como un factor relevante en la aparición de los trastornos musculo esqueléticos, ya que el 22 % de los trabajadores manifestaron realizar estas acciones.The present research identifies the ergonomic risk control mechanisms that should be used for the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders in the production personnel of the company Cosmética SAS. This investigative process is achieved through the completion of 15 surveys that will be carried out to the operators of the production area. The function of the survey is to analyze the form and conditions in which the assigned tasks are carried out, to analyze the possible influence on the appearance of musculoskeletal disorders. The investigative process purpose to find the factors, both work and non-work, to which the production personnel of the company Cosmética SAS are exposed, and with which musculoskeletal disorders are generated. This will be sufficient evidence to justify for the implementation of ergonomic risk prevention programs and mechanisms. This investigative process presents the following results, it was possible to establish that the workers have an acceptable knowledge of the subject, it was also found that between 29% and 36% of the workers remain during their working hours in positions such as walking, climbing, or descending stairs. On the other hand, the action of holding objects or tools is considered a relevant factor in the appearance of musculoskeletal disorders, since 22% of the workers stated that they performed these actions.1.     SSDSS IV MaNGA - Properties of AGN host galaxies

    We present here the characterization of the main properties of a sample of 98 AGN host galaxies, both type-II and type-I, in comparison with those of about 2700 non-active galaxies observed by the MaNGA survey. We found that AGN hosts are morphologically early-type or early-spirals. For a given morphology AGN hosts are, in average, more massive, more compact, more central peaked and rather pressurethan rotational-supported systems. We confirm previous results indicating that AGN hosts are located in the intermediate/transition region between star-forming and non-star-forming galaxies (i.e., the so-called green valley), both in the ColorMagnitude and the star formation main sequence diagrams. Taking into account their relative distribution in terms of the stellar metallicity and oxygen gas abundance and a rough estimation of their molecular gas content, we consider that these galaxies are in the process of halting/quenching the star formation, in an actual transition between both groups. The analysis of the radial distributions of the starformation rate, specific star-formation rate, and molecular gas density shows that the quenching happens from inside-out involving both a decrease of the efficiency of the star formation and a deficit of molecular gas.     Imaging mass cytometry analysis of Becker muscular dystrophy muscle samples reveals different stages of muscle degeneration

    \ua9 2024. The Author(s). Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) is characterised by fiber loss and expansion of fibrotic and adipose tissue. Several cells interact locally in what is known as the degenerative niche. We analysed muscle biopsies of controls and BMD patients at early, moderate and advanced stages of progression using Hyperion imaging mass cytometry (IMC) by labelling single sections with 17 markers identifying different components of the muscle. We developed a software for analysing IMC images and studied changes in the muscle composition and spatial correlations between markers across disease progression. We found a strong correlation between collagen-I and the area of stroma, collagen-VI, adipose tissue, and M2-macrophages number. There was a negative correlation between the area of collagen-I and the number of satellite cells (SCs), fibres and blood vessels. The comparison between fibrotic and non-fibrotic areas allowed to study the disease process in detail. We found structural differences among non-fibrotic areas from control and patients, being these latter characterized by increase in CTGF and in M2-macrophages and decrease in fibers and blood vessels. IMC enables to study of changes in tissue structure along disease progression, spatio-temporal correlations and opening the door to better understand new potential pathogenic pathways in human samples

    Mr.Bean: a comprehensive statistical and visualization application for modeling agricultural field trials data

    Crop improvement efforts have exploited new methods for modeling spatial trends using the arrangement of the experimental units in the field. These methods have shown improvement in predicting the genetic potential of evaluated genotypes. However, the use of these tools may be limited by the exposure and accessibility to these products. In addition, these new methodologies often require plant scientists to be familiar with the programming environment used to implement them; constraints that limit data analysis efficiency for decision-making. These challenges have led to the development of Mr.Bean, an accessible and user-friendly tool with a comprehensive graphical visualization interface. The application integrates descriptive analysis, measures of dispersion and centralization, linear mixed model fitting, multi-environment trial analysis, factor analytic models, and genomic analysis. All these capabilities are designed to help plant breeders and scientist working with agricultural field trials make informed decisions more quickly.     VAMOS: a Pathfinder for the HAWC Gamma-Ray Observatory

    VAMOS was a prototype detector built in 2011 at an altitude of 4100m a.s.l. in the state of Puebla, Mexico. The aim of VAMOS was to finalize the design, construction techniques and data acquisition system of the HAWC observatory. HAWC is an air-shower array currently under construction at the same site of VAMOS with the purpose to study the TeV sky. The VAMOS setup included six water Cherenkov detectors and two different data acquisition systems. It was in operation between October 2011 and May 2012 with an average live time of 30%. Besides the scientific verification purposes, the eight months of data were used to obtain the results presented in this paper: the detector response to the Forbush decrease of March 2012, and the analysis of possible emission, at energies above 30 GeV, for long gamma-ray bursts GRB111016B and GRB120328B.Comment: Accepted for pubblication in Astroparticle Physics Journal (20 pages, 10 figures).     The locus of legitimate interpretation in Big Data sciences : Lessons for computational social science from -omic biology and high-energy physics

    This paper argues that analyses of the ways in which Big Data has been enacted in other academic disciplines can provide us with concepts that will help understand the application of Big Data to social questions. We use examples drawn from our Science and Technology Studies (STS) analyses of -omic biology and high energy physics to demonstrate the utility of three theoretical concepts: (i) primary and secondary inscriptions, (ii) crafted and found data, and (iii) the locus of legitimate interpretation. These help us to show how the histories, organisational forms, and power dynamics of a field lead to different enactments of big data. The paper suggests that these concepts can be used to help us to understand the ways in which Big Data is being enacted in the domain of the social sciences, and to outline in general terms the ways in which this enactment might be different to that which we have observed in the ‘hard’ sciences. We contend that the locus of legitimate interpretation of Big Data biology and physics is tightly delineated, found within the disciplinary institutions and cultures of these disciplines. We suggest that when using Big Data to make knowledge claims about ‘the social’ the locus of legitimate interpretation is more diffuse, with knowledge claims that are treated as being credible made from other disciplines, or even by those outside academia entirely

    Effectiveness of rotavirus vaccination in Spain

    With the aim of determining rotavirus vaccine effectiveness (RVVE) in Spain, from Oct-2008/Jun-2009, 467 consecutive children below 2 years old with acute gastroenteritis (AGE) were recruited using a pediatric research network (ReGALIP-www.regalip.org) that includes primary, emergency and hospital care settings. Of 467 enrolled children, 32.3% were rotavirus positive and 35.0% had received at least one dose of any rotavirus vaccine. RRVE to prevent any episode of rotavirus AGE was 91.5% (95% CI: 83.7%-95.6%). RVVE to prevent hospitalization by rotavirus AGE was 95.6% (85.6-98.6%). No differences in RVVE were found regarding the vaccine used. Rotavirus vaccines have showed an outstanding effectiveness in Spain
