Combined frequency-amplitude nonlinear modulation: theory and applications
In this work we formulate a generalized theoretical model to describe the
nonlinear dynamics observed in combined frequency-amplitude modulators whose
characteristic parameters exhibit a nonlinear dependence on the input
modulating signal. The derived analytical solution may give a satisfactory
explanation of recent laboratory observations on magnetic spin-transfer
oscillators and fully agrees with results of micromagnetic calculations. Since
the theory has been developed independently of the mechanism causing the
nonlinearities, it may encompass the description of modulation processes of any
physical nature, a promising feature for potential applications in the field of

Nanocontact spin-transfer oscillators based on perpendicular anisotropy in the free layer
Micromagnetic simulations are used to predict the behavior exhibited by spin-transfer oscillators when materials with perpendicular anisotropy are introduced in the "free" layer of nanocontact devices. Under a perpendicular-to-plane bias field, the frequency exhibits nonlinear dependence on the anisotropy field, mostly originated by the exchange-dominated propagating nature of spin-wave modes. The increase of frequency without using large bias fields makes it suitable for potential technological applications. A study of the feasibility of bias-field-free devices has been also performed deriving multiharmonic signals at gigahertz frequencies. Location Analytics in Information Systems: Innovative Applications & Research Opportunities
Some organizations have found competitive advantages through location analytics, yet such methods are rarely taught, applied, or researched within the information systems discipline. Instead, questions about location or analysis of location data are frequently treated as an afterthought or special case rather than an integral part of most business processes. Hence, organizations rarely adopt location analytics as a core enabler for remaining competitive or gaining a competitive advantage. Location analytics is an exciting opportunity for information systems programs to discover innovative industry applications, expand research approaches, and meet a critical workforce need through curricular enhancements. Many industries have yet to discover the capabilities of practical analyses of location-based data to drive decisions and inform strategy. Similarly, most information systems research (analytical, organizational, and behavioral) does not include spatial methodologies and theories. Finally, industries that hire information systems majors expect them to be able to work with a variety of data, including spatial data. Therefore, exposing information systems students to advanced spatial problem solving and analysis is critical. Our panel will share ideas for implementing innovative spatial analysis within industries, present examples of how spatial dimensions can inform richer and more rigorous research methodologies, and discuss how to best ensure that information systems students are exposed to spatial analysis. We invite those curious about bringing innovation to the IS curriculum to join us on an exploratory journey about location analytics in industry, research, and the classroom
High spatial resolution and high contrast optical speckle imaging with FASTCAM at the ORM
In this paper, we present an original observational approach, which combines,
for the first time, traditional speckle imaging with image post-processing to
obtain in the optical domain diffraction-limited images with high contrast
(1e-5) within 0.5 to 2 arcseconds around a bright star. The post-processing
step is based on wavelet filtering an has analogy with edge enhancement and
high-pass filtering. Our I-band on-sky results with the 2.5-m Nordic Telescope
(NOT) and the lucky imaging instrument FASTCAM show that we are able to detect
L-type brown dwarf companions around a solar-type star with a contrast DI~12 at
2" and with no use of any coronographic capability, which greatly simplifies
the instrumental and hardware approach. This object has been detected from the
ground in J and H bands so far only with AO-assisted 8-10 m class telescopes
(Gemini, Keck), although more recently detected with small-class telescopes in
the K band. Discussing the advantage and disadvantage of the optical regime for
the detection of faint intrinsic fluxes close to bright stars, we develop some
perspectives for other fields, including the study of dense cores in globular
clusters. To the best of our knowledge this is the first time that high

Cutaneous Biology: In vivo blockade of pemphigus vulgaris acantholysis by inhibition of intracellular signal transduction cascades
Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is an autoimmune disease characterized by
mucocutaneous intraepithelial blisters and pathogenic autoantibodies against
desmoglein 3. The mechanism of blister formation in pemphigus has not been
defined; however, in vitro data suggest a role for activation of intracellular
signalling cascades. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the contribution of these
signalling pathways to the mechanism of PV IgG-induced acantholysis in vivo.
METHODS: We used the passive transfer mouse model. Mice were injected with IgG
fractions of sera from a patient with PV, with or without pretreatment with
inhibitors of proteins that mediate intracellular signalling cascades. RESULTS:
Inhibitors of tyrosine kinases, phospholipase C, calmodulin and the
serine/threonine kinase protein kinase C prevented PV IgG-induced acantholysis in
vivo. CONCLUSIONS: These observations strongly support the role of intracellular
signalling cascades in the molecular mechanism of PV IgG-induced acantholysi
Supersymmetric QCD flavor changing top quark decay
We present a detailed and complete calculation of the gluino and scalar
quarks contribution to the flavour-changing top quark decay into a charm quark
and a photon, gluon, or a Z boson within the minimal supersymmetric standard
model including flavour changing gluino-quarks-scalar quarks couplings in the
right-handed sector. We compare the results with the ones presented in an
earlier paper where we considered flavour changing couplings only in the
left-handed sector. We show that these new couplings have important
consequences leading to a large enhancement when the mixing of the scalar
partners of the left- and right-handed top quark is included. Furthermore CP
violation in the flavour changing top quark decay will occur when a SUSY phase

Looking for Crumbs in the Obesity Forest: Anti-obesity Interventions and Obesity-Associated Cardiometabolic Traits in the Mexican Population. History and Systematic Review With Meta-Analyses
Mexicans and Mexican Americans share culture, genetic background, and predisposition for chronic complications associated with obesity and diabetes making imperative efficacious treatments and prevention. Obesity has been treated for centuries focused-on weight loss while other treatments on associated conditions like gout, diabetes (T2D), and hypertriglyceridemia. To date, there is no systematic review that synthesizes the origin of obesity clinics in Mexico and the efforts to investigate treatments for obesity tested by randomized clinical trials (RCT). We conducted systematic searches in Pubmed, Scopus, and Web of Science to retrieve anti-obesity RCT through 2019 and without an inferior temporal limit. The systematic review included RCT of anti-obesity treatments in the Mexican adult population, covering alternative medicine, pharmacological, nutritional, behavioral, and surgical interventions reporting metabolism-associated traits such as BMI, weight, waist circumference, triglycerides, glucose, among others. Only the studies with at least 3 months of treatment were included in the meta-analyses in order to reduce placebo effects. We found 634 entries, after removal of duplicates and screening the studies based on eligibility criteria, we analyzed 43 national, and 2 multinational-collaborative studies. Most of the national studies had small sample sizes, and the implemented strategies do not have replications in the population. The nutrition/behavioral interventions were difficult to blind, and most studies have medium-to-high risk of bias. Nutritional/behavioral interventions and medications showed effects on BMI, waist circumference, and blood pressure. Simple measures like pure water instead of sweet beverages decrease triglycerides and systolic blood pressure. Dark chocolate showed the highest effect for BMI and high blood pressure, and treatment with insulin increased weight in those with T2D. The study of obesity in Mexico has been on-going for more than four decades, the interest on RCT just increased until this millennium, but with small sample sizes and lack of replication. The interventions affect different cardiometabolic associated traits, which should be analyzed in detail in the population living near the Mexico-U.S. border; therefore, bi-national collaboration is desirable to disentangle the cultural effects on this population\u27s treatment response
Magnetic domain wall curvature induced by wire edge pinning
open14In this study, we report on the analysis of the magnetic domain wall (DW) curvature due to magnetic field induced motion in Ta/CoFeB/MgO and Pt/Co/Pt wires with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. In wires of 20 mu m and 25 mu m, a large edge pinning potential produces the anchoring of the DW ends to the wire edges, which is evidenced as a significant curvature of the DW front as it propagates. As the driving magnetic field is increased, the curvature reduces as a result of the system moving away from the creep regime of DW motion, which implies a weaker dependence of the DW dynamics on the interaction between the DW and the wire edge defects. A simple model is derived to describe the dependence of the DW curvature on the driving magnetic field and allows us to extract the parameter sigma (E), which accounts for the strength of the edge pinning potential. The model describes well the systems with both weak and strong bulk pinning potentials like Ta/CoFeB/MgO and Pt/Co/Pt, respectively.
