The tapestries of Scipio "the African" in the spanish royal collections

Se traza un recorrido por las diversas tapicerías de la Historia de Escipión “el Africano” relacionadas con la historia de la monarquía española, comenzando por analizar el papel que la primera serie de tapices de este tema adquirida por María de Hungría, regente de los Países Bajos, desempeñó en los festejos de Binche en 1549, así como el destino de ésta y otras series documentadas en los inventarios reales. También profundizaremos en la especial inclinación que la reina Isabel de Farnesio sintió por estas tapicerías, aportando diversas noticias de archivo.This article deals with the history of several sets of the History of Scipio “the African” once pertaining to the Spanish Royal collections, beginning with the special role that the tapestries acquired by the queen Mary of Hungary in 1544 had in the festivities held at the palace of Binche, as well as the destiny of these and others tapestries once documented at the Spanish Royal collections. It is also described the special taste Isabel de Farnesio had for Scipio tapestries, based on some archival records
