    Maximum allowed angular errors for positioning mirrors in Advanced Virgo OMC

The main goal of this problem is to check if the beam stay inside polished mirrors during the propagation assuming random angular errors for mirror positions. The diameters of mirrors, assume to be 5mm, and the maximum allowed angular error, which we would determine, constitute the set of two relevant parameters in this problem if we exclude configuration parameters of the OMC. To solve the problem we will progress in two steps, first we will establish the equations of the beam propagation inside the cavity using the geometrical optics and second we will do the numerical resolution with a C++ code of those equations and find the maximum allowed angular error.     Mirror surface studies for Advanced Virgo OMC

It is well known that flatness defects and micro-roughness on mirror surfaces affect the resonant mode in a cavity. Here we would like to determine the mirror surface specifications in order to have more than 99 % of transmission through the OMC for a perfect Gaussian input beam TEM00. To do this determination we will simulate the cavity with the code OSCAR (Degallaix 2010). Two kinds of losses will be characterised. The first one is the part of resonant beam which go out of mirrors, such losses are called sometimes "diffraction losses" or "clipping losses". The second, which can be the most important loss, is the reflection of the incident beam which does not match the imperfect cavity.     Artificial Neural Networks in Financial Modelling

    The study of Artificial Neural Networks derives from first trials to translate in mathematical models the principles of biological processing. An Artificial Neural Network deals with generating, in the fastest times, an implicit and predictive model of the evolution of a system. In particular, it derives from experience its ability to be able to recognize some behaviours or situations and to suggest how to take them into account. This work illustrates an approach to the use of Artificial Neural Networks for Financial Modelling; we aim to explore the structural differences (and implications) between one- and multi- agent and population models. In one-population models, ANNs are involved as forecasting devices with wealth-maximizing agents (in which agents make decisions so as to achieve an utility maximization following non-linear models to do forecasting), while in multipopulation models agents do not follow predetermined rules, but tend to create their own behavioural rules as market data are collected. In particular, it is important to analyze diversities between one-agent and one-population models; in fact, in building one-population model it is possible to illustrate the market equilibrium endogenously, which is not possible in one-agent model where all the environmental characteristics are taken as given and beyond the control of the single agent.artificial neural network, financial modelling, population model, market equilibrium.

    A Data Set Generation Algorithm in Combinatorial Auctions

    The generation of realistic data sets in a Combinatorial Auction may be a challenging problem. Well-formed data sets are very useful in the evaluation of algorithms trying to solve the winner determination problem. In this paper a general data set generation scheme is presented, both from an algorithmic and economic point of view.     A SspI PCR-RFLP detecting a silent allele at the goat CSN2 locus

    The comparison between the cDNA sequence obtained and the published sequences of the goat CSN2 alleles showed a new single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) (transition C-T) at the 180th nucleotide of the ninth exon. This mutation, which took place at 124 nt from the polyadenylation site, identifies a silent allele at the CSN2 locus named CSN2 A1. Since the 9th exon C-T transition creates a SspI endonuclease restriction site, the SspI digestion of a PCR product of 360 bp spanning the 9th exon and flanking regions, would allow carriers for the presence of thymine to be identified. The allelic frequency of the CSN2 A1 allele, determined in 170 goats belonging to an undefined genetic type reared in the province of Naples (Italy), was 0.23 It has been observed that the sequences in the 3’ untranslated regions (UTR), proximal to the polyadenylation site, can affect the mechanism of mRNA deadenylation and degradation. Therefore, it is reasonable to hypothesize that the C-T transition might, directly or indirectly, influence the stability of the mRNA and, consequently, the amount of protein produced

    Supernova neutrino physics with a nuclear emulsion detector

    The existence of the coherent neutrino-nucleus scattering reaction requires to evaluate, for any detector devoted to WIMP searches, the irreducible background due to conventional neutrino sources and at same time, it gives a unique chance to reveal supernova neutrinos. We report here a detailed study concerning a new directional detector, based on the nuclear emulsion technology. A Likelihood Ratio test shows that, in the first years of operations and with a detector mass of several tens of tons, the observation of the supernova signal can be achieved. The determination of the distance of the supernova from the neutrinos and the observation of 8^8B neutrinos are also discussed.Comment: 22 pages, 12 figure

    Vaccinia virus binds to the scavenger receptor MARCO on the surface of keratinocytes.

    Patients with altered skin immunity, such as individuals with atopic dermatitis (AD), can have a life-threatening disruption of the epidermis known as eczema vaccinatum after vaccinia virus (VV) infection of the skin. Here, we sought to better understand the mechanism(s) by which VV associates with keratinocytes. The class A scavenger receptor known as MARCO (macrophage receptor with collagenous structure) is expressed on human and mouse keratinocytes and found to be abundantly expressed in the skin of patients with AD. VV bound directly to MARCO, and overexpression of MARCO increased susceptibility to VV infection. Furthermore, ligands with affinity for MARCO, or excess soluble MARCO, competitively inhibited VV infection. These findings indicate that MARCO promotes VV infection and highlights potential new therapeutic strategies for prevention of VV infection in the skin

    En el presente trabajo se pretende analizar el impacto sobre el mercado de trabajo de la política económica implementada por el gobierno actual. A tal efecto, se evalúan los principales lineamientos del programa implementado hasta el momento, en particular, respecto a la política cambiaria, monetaria, fiscal, comercial y salarial. Las tendencias del mercado laboral se abordan a partir del análisis de variables como las tasas básicas del mercado de trabajo, el número de trabajadores asalariados registrados, el porcentaje de trabajadores asalariados no registrados y la evolución de los salarios reales, entre otras. Las fuentes de datos son secundarias e incluyen informes del Ministerio de Economía de la Nación, el Informe Monetario mensual del BCRA, los informes de prensa del INDEC correspondientes a nivel general de precios y nivel de actividad económica, la Encuesta Permanente de Hogares (EPH), la información del Sistema Integrado Previsional Argentino (SIPA) y las estadísticas trimestrales del Observatorio de Empleo y Dinámica Empresarial (OEDE-MTEySS).     Characterization of two new alleles at the goat CSN1S2 locus.

    Two novel alleles at the goat CSN1S2 locus have been identified: CSN1S2(F) and CSN1S2(D). Sequence analyses revealed that the CSN1S2(F) allele is characterized by a G --> A transition at the 13th nucleotide in exon 3 changing the seventh amino acid of the mature protein from Val to Ile. The CSN1S2(D) allele, apparently associated with a decreased synthesis of alpha s2-casein, is characterized by a 106-bp deletion, involving the last 11 bp of the exon 11 and the first 95 bp of the following intron. Methods (PCR-RFLP and PCR) for identification of carriers of these alleles have been developed
