    Preparation and Application of Electrodes in Capacitive Deionization (CDI): a State-of-Art Review

    As a promising desalination technology, capacitive deionization (CDI) have shown practicality and cost-effectiveness in brackish water treatment. Developing more efficient electrode materials is the key to improving salt removal performance. This work reviewed current progress on electrode fabrication in application of CDI. Fundamental principal (e.g. EDL theory and adsorption isotherms) and process factors (e.g. pore distribution, potential, salt type and concentration) of CDI performance were presented first. It was then followed by in-depth discussion and comparison on properties and fabrication technique of different electrodes, including carbon aerogel, activated carbon, carbon nanotubes, graphene and ordered mesoporous carbon. Finally, polyaniline as conductive polymer and its potential application as CDI electrode-enhancing materials were also discussed

    International Consensus Statement on Rhinology and Allergy: Rhinosinusitis

    Background: The 5 years since the publication of the first International Consensus Statement on Allergy and Rhinology: Rhinosinusitis (ICAR‐RS) has witnessed foundational progress in our understanding and treatment of rhinologic disease. These advances are reflected within the more than 40 new topics covered within the ICAR‐RS‐2021 as well as updates to the original 140 topics. This executive summary consolidates the evidence‐based findings of the document. Methods: ICAR‐RS presents over 180 topics in the forms of evidence‐based reviews with recommendations (EBRRs), evidence‐based reviews, and literature reviews. The highest grade structured recommendations of the EBRR sections are summarized in this executive summary. Results: ICAR‐RS‐2021 covers 22 topics regarding the medical management of RS, which are grade A/B and are presented in the executive summary. Additionally, 4 topics regarding the surgical management of RS are grade A/B and are presented in the executive summary. Finally, a comprehensive evidence‐based management algorithm is provided. Conclusion: This ICAR‐RS‐2021 executive summary provides a compilation of the evidence‐based recommendations for medical and surgical treatment of the most common forms of RS

    Shear strength of cohesive soils at consistency limits is considered to be constant and various apparatus are designed based on this, for easy determination of consistency limits. But there is a significant difference in the shear strength values quoted by different researchers. This study mainly deals with the systematic approach of determining the undrained shear strength of cohesive soil at consistency limits. In the present study shear strength of different soil sample at different locations are calculated. The graphical representations are also described in the present experimental investigations. For the city like Amravati this study shall be helpful for the construction work there

    Spatially Constrained Geospatial Data Clustering for Multilayer Sensor-Based Measurements

    One of the most popular approaches to process high-density proximal soil sensing data is to aggregate similar measurements representing unique field conditions. An innovative constraint-based spatial clustering algorithm has been developed. The algorithm seeks to minimize the mean squared error during the interactive grouping of spatially adjacent measurements similar to each other and different from the other parts of the field. After successful implementation of a one soil property scenario, this research was to accommodate multiple layers of soil properties representing the same area under investigation. Six agricultural fields across Nebraska, USA, were chosen to illustrate the algorithm performance. The three layers considered were field elevation and apparent soil electrical conductivity representing both deep and shallow layers of the soil profile. The algorithm was implemented in MATLAB, R2013b. Prior to the process of interactive grouping, geographic coordinates were projected and erroneous data were filtered out. Additional data pre-processing included bringing each data layer to a 20 × 20 m raster to facilitate multi-layer computations. An interactive grouping starts with a new “nest” search to initiate the first group of measurements that are most different from the rest of the field. This group is grown using a neighbourhood search approach and once growing the group fails to reduce the overall mean squared error, the algorithm seeks to locate a new “nest”, which will grow into another group. This process continues until there is no benefit from separating out an additional part of the field. Results of the six-field trial showed that each case generated a reasonable number of groups which corresponded to agronomic knowledge of the fields. The unique feature of this approach is spatial continuity of each group and capability to process multiple data layers. Further development will involve comparison with a more traditional k-means clustering approach and agronomic model calibration using a targeted soil sampling

    Appraisal of Noise Level Dissemination Surrounding Mining and Industrial Areas of Keonjhar, Odisha: a Comprehensive Approach Using Noise Mapping

    Noise mapping is a well-established practice among the European nations, and it has been follow for almost two decades. Recently, as per guidelines of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), India, noise mapping has been made mandatory in the mining expanses. This study is an effort to map the noise levels in nearby areas of mines in the northern Keonjhar district. The motive of this study is to quantify the existing A-weighted time-average sound level (LAeq, T) in the study area to probe its effects on the human dwellings and noise sensitive areas with the probability of future development of the mines, roads, and industrial and commercial zone. The LAeq, T was measured at 39 identified locations, including industrial, commercial, residential, and sensitive zones, 15 open cast mines, 3 major highways, and 3 haulage roads. With the utilisation of Predictor LimA Software and other GIS tools, the worked out data is mapped and noise contours are developed for the visualisation and identification of the extent and distribution of sound levels across the study area. This investigation discloses that the present noise level at 60% of the locations in silence and residential zone exposed to significantly high noise levels surpasses the prescribed limit of Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), India. The observed day and night time LAeq, T level of both zones ranged between 43.2–62.2 dB(A) and 30.5–53.4 dB(A), respectively, whereas, the average Ldn values vary between 32.7 and 51.2 dB(A). The extensive mobility of heavy vehicles adjoining the sensitive areas and a nearby plethora of open cast mines is the leading cause of exceeded noise levels. The study divulges that the delicate establishments like schools and hospitals are susceptible to high noise levels throughout the day and night. A correlation between observed and software predicted values gives R2 of 0.605 for Ld, 0.217 for Ln, and 0.524 for Ldn. Finally, the mitigation measure is proposed and demonstrated using a contour map showing a significant reduction in the noise levels by 0–5.3 dB(A)

    Synthesis and biological evaluation of 3, 4 -dihydropyrimidines thiones derivatives

    3, 4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-thiones, derivatives were synthesized by one pot solvent free green modified Biginelli cyclocondensation reaction catalyzed by triphenylphosphine as Lewis base. The structures of the synthesized compounds have been elucidated by IR, 1H NMR and elemental analysis. Synthesized compounds were screened for their antimicrobial screened against the E.coli and staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli and antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger, Penecillium crysogenum, Aspergillus flavus, and Candida albicans
