    HUBUNGAN ANTARA KEPRIBADIAN INTROVERT DENGAN KURANGNYA KEPERCAYAAN DIRI PADA MAHASISWA UNIRA YANG AKTIF DI ORGANISASI EKSTRA HMI

    Organisasi kemahasiswaan ialah wadah harapan yang bisa menampung keseluruhan agenda mahasiswa serta sarana peningkatan pengetahuan dan kapabilitas non akademik. Organisasi HMI di UNIRA memiliki standart, seluruh anggotanya memiliki karakter percaya diri. Namun hal ini sulit dilakukan pada anggota yang memiliki tipe kepribadian introvert, pasif dalam bersosialisasi serta krisis percaya diri. Riset bertujuan mengetahui apa ada kaitan diantara tipe kepribadian introvert dengan kurangnya kepercayaan diri mahasiswa UNIRA yang aktif di organisasi ekstra HMI. Riset memakai pendekatan kuantitatif korelasional, serta mengambil populasi mahasiswa UNIRA yang aktif di organisasi ekstra HMI. Teknik sampling riset dengan simple random sampling dan memperoleh jumlah sampel 89 orang dari 120 populasi HMI di UNIRA. Teknik pengumpulan data dengan Skala Likert yakni skala kepribadian introvert dan skala kurangnya kepercayaan diri. Uji validitas riset dengan pengujian korelasi product moment. Hasil analisa pengujian korelasi tersebut memperlihatkan perolehan angka rxy 0,541 > 0,231 r tabel pada taraf probabilitas kesalahan P=0,000. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian memperlihatkan ada kaitan arah positif signifikan antara kepribadian introvert dengan kurangnya kepercayaan diri, sehingga dikatakan bahwa semakin individu introvert maka individu tersebut akan semakin kurang percaya diri. Deskripsi data menunjukkan bahwa anggota HMI yang introvert berjumlah 15 responden (16,9%) dalam kategori introvert tinggi, 67 responden (75,2%) dalam kategori sedang dan 7 responden (7,87%) dalam kategori rendah. Kemudian responden pada variabel kurangnya kepercayaan diri mahasiswa berjumlah 18 (18%) dalam kategori tinggi, 62 (70%) dalam kategori sedang serta 11 (12%) dalam kategori rendah

    Problem in this study was how to identify factors that cause diabetes mellitus patients leaving his food? Purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with food leaving behavior of patients who received diabetes mellitus in Dr. M. Ashari Pemalang Hospital. The type and design of the study was explanatory, using cross-sectional approach. The number of samples were as many as 14 patients. Sample selection technique was using the total sampling. The data analyzed using fisher test with significance level <0.05. The instruments used were questionnaires, food scales and observation form. In conclusion, the factors associated with DM diet leftovers are meal schedule (p value = 0.005), outside the hospital food (p value = 0.015), the taste of food obtained (p value = 0.005), and eating habits (p value = 0.003)

    TEACHER’S STRATEGIES IN TEACHING SPEAKING SKILL FOR ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS AT SMA BOPKRI 2 YOGYAKARTA

    The objectives of this research are (1) to describe the strategies used by the English teacher of the eleventh grade students of SMA BOPKRI 2 Yogyakarta in teaching speaking and (2) to find out how the English teacher applies the strategies in teaching speaking. This research is descriptive qualitative in the form of a case study. The data were collected from observation and video recording of XI IPA 1, XII IPA 2, and XI Bahasa. The data were transcribed, identified, described, and analyzed by using theory of Shaun Killianof on strategies in teaching speaking. The results indicate that not all of the strategies in teaching speaking were applied by the English teacher. In XI IPA 1 and XI IPA 2, the teacher applied six strategies, while in XI Bahasa, the teacher only applied four strategies in teaching speaking. The teacher applied the strategies to help students become active during the learning process. The strategies could help the students become more active in the teaching and learning process, because the implementation of those strategies was sufficiently executed.Â

    KINERJA KARYAWAN DILIHAT DARI KEPEMIMPINAN, DUKUNGAN PERUSAHAAN DAN PRAKTIK BEKERJA DARI RUMAH

    Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk melihat hal-hal yang mempengaruhi kinerja karyawan yakni kepemimpinan, work from home sebagai pemoderasi dan dan dukungan perusahaan sebagai mediasi. Literatur yang digunakan dalam membangun model penelitian ini antara lain yang berkaitan dengan kepemimpinan, kemudian untuk kinerja karyawan adalah konsep yang berkaitan dengan manajemen kinerja, selanjutnya untuk work from home digunakan konsep flexible working arrangement dan terakhir dukungan perusahaan yang juga mengacu pada konsep dukungan perusahaan. Metode penelitian dengan pendekatan kuantitatif, dengan pengambilan sampel secara acak pada responden yang bekerja di perusahaan non esensial di Jakarta, kemudian diolah menggunakan pendekatan variance based structural equation modelling. Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa kepemimpinan mempengaruhi kinerja karyawan di perusahaan non esensial, kemudian tidak didapat bukti bahwa dukungan perusahaan tidak terbukti mempengaruhi kinerja karyawan di perusahaan non esensial, selain itu work from home sebagai pemoderasi dan dukungan perusahaan tidak terbukti sebagai pemediasi kepemimpinan dan kinerja karyawan. Implikasi dari hasil penelitian ini adalah pada perusahaan non esensial perlu mencari formula selain dukungan perusahaan dan praktik work from home dalam hal mendorong kinerja karyawan, namun demikian kepemimpinan memiliki pengaruh terhadap kinerja khususnya di perusahaan non esensial, sehingga sisi kepemimpinan dianggap perlu untuk dioptimalkan

    The antioxidant and antiproliferative activities of methanolic extracts from Njavara rice bran

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Free radical-induced oxidative stress is the root cause for many human diseases. Naturally occurring antioxidant supplements from plants are vital to counter the oxidative damage in cells. The main objective of the present study was to characterize the antioxidant and antiproliferative potential of rice bran extracted from an important Indian rice variety, Njavara and to compare the same with two commercially available basmati rice varieties: Vasumathi, Yamini and a non medicinal variety, Jyothi.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Methanolic extracts of rice bran from four varieties; Vasumathi, Yamini, Jyothi and Njavara were used to study their total phenolic and flavonoid contents, <it>in vitro </it>antioxidant activities including total antioxidant activity, scavenging of nitric oxide and 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical, reducing power and cytotoxic activity in C6 glioma cells. Correlation coefficient and regression analysis were done by using Sigmastat version 3.1 and Stata statistical package respectively.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Rice bran methanolic extract from Njavara showed the highest antioxidant and cell cytotoxic properties compared to the other three rice varieties. IC<sub>50 </sub>values for scavenging DPPH and nitric oxide were in the range of 30.85-87.72 μg/ml and 52.25-107.18 μg/ml respectively. Total antioxidant activity and reducing power were increased with increasing amounts of the extract. Total phenolic and flavonoid contents were in the range of 3.2-12.4 mg gallic acid-equivalent (GAE)/g bran and 1.68-8.5 mg quercetin-equivalent (QEE)/g bran respectively. IC<sub>50 </sub>values of cytotoxic assay (MTT assay) were 17.53-57.78 μg/ml. Correlation coefficient and regression analysis of phenolic content with DPPH and NO scavenging, MTT (-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide) assay, total antioxidant assay and reducing power showed a highly significant correlation coefficient values (96-99%) and regression values (91-98%).</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The results of the present study show that the crude methanolic extract from Njavara rice bran contains significantly high polyphenolic compounds with superior antioxidant activity as evidenced by scavenging of free radicals including DPPH and NO. Njavara extracts also showed highest reducing power activity, anti-proliferative property in C6 glioma cells. In conclusion, it is conceivable that the Njavara rice variety could be exploited as one of the potential sources for plant - based pharmaceutical products.</p

    Ecobrick Sebagai Solusi Penanggulangan Sampah Non-Organik Rumah Tangga di Lingkungan Sayo Baru

    Tujuan dari diadakannnya program kerja “Ecobrick” ini adalah untuk mengedukasi masyarakat bagaimana cara mengelola sampah di Lingkungan Sayo Baru. Permasalahan sampah (khususnya sampah anorganik) sampai saat ini menjadi masalah yang sangat krusial di masyarakat. Jika permasalahan terkait sampah di lingkungan tersebut tidak segera ditangani, maka banjir yang kerap kali terjadi di beberapa tempat di lingkungan Sayo Baru  tidak dapat teratasi, selain banjir sampah non organik yang berserakan juga mengurangi keindahan lingkungan Sayo Baru. Maka dari itu kami dari tim KKN Tematik Universitas Mataram mengajak masyarakat untuk lebih peduli lagi dalam hal bagaimana cara mengelola sampah non organik menjadi benda yang lebih bermanfaat. Dengan adanya program kerja ini, Mahasiswa KKN Tematik Universitas Mataram dapat membantu mengedukasi masyarakat tentang pentingnya mengelola sampah, mulai dari melakukan sosialisasi langsung di balai lingkungan dan pembagian brosur kepada masyarakat dan tentunya dapat mengurangi jumlah sampah harian di Lingkungan Sayo Baru, sehingga animo masyarakat untuk lebih peduli terhadap lingkungan dari sampah anorganik menjadi lebih tinggi. Adapun hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah terciptanya tempat sampah dari sampah non organik serta masyarakat sekitar merespon dengan baik karena mereka tidak bingung untuk membuang sampah rumahan yang ada

    Effect of Wood-derived Charcoal Content on Properties of Wood Plastic Composites

    The effect of wood-derived charcoal flour on the water resistance and mechanical properties of wood plastic composite (WPC) panels was investigated. The hot press molded WPC panels were produced from polypropylene (37 wt%) with maleic anhydride-grafted polypropylene (MAPP, 3 wt%) and different mixtures of wood flour and charcoal flour. The amount of charcoal flour was gradually increased up to 60 wt%. The thickness swelling and water absorption of WPC panels considerably decreased with increasing charcoal flour content. The internal bond strength and bending properties of the WPC panels significantly improved with increasing charcoal flour content. This was mainly attributed to the high amount of pores and gaps in the charcoal flour. Melted polypropylene could get into the pores and gaps during the hot press molding, which lead to a better interfacial adhesion between polymer matrix and wood filler. The results showed that the charcoal flour could be partially substituted for the wood flour in the production of WPC panels having higher dimensional stability and internal bond strength

    Withaferin a-induced apoptosis in human breast cancer cells is mediated by reactive oxygen species

    Withaferin A (WA), a promising anticancer constituent of Ayurvedic medicinal plant Withania somnifera, inhibits growth of MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 human breast cancer cells in culture and MDA-MB-231 xenografts in vivo in association with apoptosis induction, but the mechanism of cell death is not fully understood. We now demonstrate, for the first time, that WA-induced apoptosis is mediated by reactive oxygen species (ROS) production due to inhibition of mitochondrial respiration. WA treatment caused ROS production in MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 cells, but not in a normal human mammary epithelial cell line (HMEC). The HMEC was also resistant to WA-induced apoptosis. WA-mediated ROS production as well as apoptotic histone-associated DNA fragment release into the cytosol was significantly attenuated by ectopic expression of Cu,Zn-superoxide dismutase in both MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 cells. ROS production resulting from WA exposure was accompanied by inhibition of oxidative phosphorylation and inhibition of complex III activity. Mitochondrial DNA-deficient Rho-0 variants of MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 cells were resistant to WA-induced ROS production, collapse of mitochondrial membrane potential, and apoptosis compared with respective wild-type cells. WA treatment resulted in activation of Bax and Bak in MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 cells, and SV40 immortalized embryonic fibroblasts derived from Bax and Bak double knockout mouse were significantly more resistant to WA-induced apoptosis compared with fibroblasts derived from wild-type mouse. In conclusion, the present study provides novel insight into the molecular circuitry of WA-induced apoptosis involving ROS production and activation of Bax/Bak. © 2011 Hahm et al
