    Salinity tolerance and fishery of mud shrimp Solenocera crassicornis (H. Milne Edwards) in the coastal waters of Mumbai

    Salinity tolerance of mud shrimp Solenocera crassicornis investigated at different salinities ranging from 15‰ to 55‰ showed that shrimps in the salinity range 30‰ - 42‰ survived but those in lower and higher salinities died soon after the transfer. Ionic concentration in the hemolymph and free amino acids in the body muscle in response to different salinity ranges showed hypo-regulation initially but later became hyposmotic to the medium and died eventually when the salinity decreased. The abundance of shrimp showed inverse relationship with rainfall and consequent lowering of salinity in the inshore waters. The study showed that S. crassicornis can regulate osmotic and ionic concentrations of body fluids efficiently in the salinity range of 30 - 42‰ but unlike euryhaline penaeid shrimps it is a poor regulator at lower salinities and therefore it migrates offshore during monsoon months

    An Enhanced Multi-layered Cryptosystem Based Secure and Authorized De-duplicaton Model in Cloud Storage System

    Data de-duplication is one of the essential data compression techniques for eliminating duplicate copies of repeating data, and it has been widely used in cloud storage to reduce the amount of storage space and save bandwidth. To protect the privacy of sensitive data while supporting de-duplication, the salt encryption technique has been proposed to encrypt the data before its outsourcing. To protect the data security in a better way, this paper makes the first attempt to formally address the problem of authorized data de-duplication. Different from traditional de-duplication systems, the derivative privileges of users are further considered in duplicate check besides the data itself. We also present various new de-duplication constructions which supports the authorized duplicate check in hybrid cloud architecture. Security analysis demonstrates that the scheme which we used is secure in terms of the definitions specified in the proposed security model. We enhance our system in security. Specially, we present a forward-looking scheme to support a stronger security by encrypting file with differential privilege keys. We show that our proposed authorized duplicate check scheme incurs minimal overhead compared to normal operations

    Metapeneopsis stridulans feeds on a variety of food items, viz. diatoms, foraminiferans polychaetes, molluscs, crustaceans and detritus consisting of unidentifiable decaying matter along with sand and mud. The species does not show a preference for any particular food item. There is no significant difference in the food habits among the various size groups observed in the prawn. Monthwise feeding intensity for males and females shows males with empty stomach to be prevalent in most months

    Solving rate equations for electron tunneling via discrete quantum states

    We consider the form of the current-voltage curves generated when tunneling spectroscopy is used to measure the energies of individual electronic energy levels in nanometer-scale systems. We point out that the voltage positions of the tunneling resonances can undergo temperature-dependent shifts, leading to errors in spectroscopic measurements that are proportional to temperature. We do this by solving the set of rate equations that can be used to describe electron tunneling via discrete quantum states, for a number of cases important for comparison to experiments, including (1) when just one spin-degenerate level is accessible for transport, (2) when 2 spin-degenerate levels are accessible, with no variation in electron-electron interactions between eigenstates, and (3) when 2 spin-degenerate levels are accessible, but with variations in electron-electron interactions. We also comment on the general case with an arbitrary number of accessible levels.     Social factors influencing diabetes mellitus in adults attending a tertiary care hospital in Nagpur: a cross sectional study

    Background: Social determinants of the health are the conditions in which individuals are born, grow, live and age. Increasingly, these are being recognized for their relationship to the soaring incidence of diabetes mellitus. So, we conducted a study to find the social factors of diabetes mellitus.Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted in adults having type 2 diabetes in outpatient department of tertiary care institute in Nagpur from July to September 2015. Socio demographic factors, health care access factors, stress related factors and self-care behavior of these patients were studied. Data was analyzed using Epi Info 7.1 software.Results: Out of 140 diabetic patients studied females were predominant (55.71%). Most of them were married (92.85%), were Muslim by religion (47.14%), were from nuclear families, (53.57%) and lower middle class (40%). 50% said that they have health care facilities nearby their house and 50.71% do not get drugs regularly in that health care facility. and only (27.14%) were insured. 64.28% of study subjects said that they were accompanied by relatives to hospital. The financial stress (73.57%) and family stress (72.85%) was more in the patients than work stress (49.28 %). 75.72% and 71.42 % checked their blood sugar levels every 6 monthly and blood pressure every monthly and very less patients kept follow up for complications.Conclusions: Our study showed that in spite of having health care facility nearby, the irregularity of drugs was a major concern. Very less study subjects were insured for their health, this implicates higher stress related factors. They had less compliance towards follow-up of complications of diabetes mellitus

    Morphometric studies in the genus Clerodendrum L.

    Six Clerodendrum L. species from Kolhapur district were morphometrically analyzed with the help of PCA, cluster analysis and CD. It was observed that the quantitative characters viz. petiole length, leaf length and leaf width have great significance in delimitation of all the species and corolla tube length, leaf width, gynoecium length and leaf length have great contribution in separation of the taxa. Clerodendrum multiflorum (Burm.f.) O. Ktze.- Clerodendrum inerme (L.) Gaertn., Clerodendrum paniculatum L. - Clerodendrum viscosum Vent. and Clerodendrum inerme (L.)     Accurate estimations of circumstellar and interstellar lines of quadruply ionized vanadium using the coupled cluster approach

    Accurate {\it ab initio} calculations have been carried out to study the valence electron removal energies and oscillator strengths of astrophysically important electromagnetic transitions of quadruply ionized vanadium, V4+V^{4+}. Many important electron correlations are considered to all-orders using the relativistic coupled-cluster theory. Calculated ionization potentials and fine structure splittings are compared with the experimental values, wherever available. To our knowledge, oscillator strengths of electric dipole transitions are predicted for the first time for most of the transitions. The transitions span in the range of ultraviolet, visible and near infrared regions and are important for astrophysical observations.Comment: Submitted in Astrophysical

    Study of various causes of defaulter among tuberculosis patients under revised national tuberculosis control programme: a prospective analysis of 5235 tuberculosis patients

    Background: The world health organization (WHO) declared tuberculosis (TB) a global public health emergency in 1993 and since then intensified its efforts to control the disease worldwide. Poor compliance with tuberculosis (TB) treatment has reportedly been cited as one of the major obstacles which have led to spread of TB and development of multi-drug resistant and extensively drug resistant tuberculosis. The objective is to investigate factors contributing to treatment non-adherence among patients on TB treatment, the results of which might help us to design intervention that would promote compliance.Methods: All TB patients admitted to the Institute were interviewed regarding the past history of anti-tuberculosis treatment (AKT). As per the revised national tuberculosis control programme (RNTCP) guidelines, we defined defaulter as patient who had interrupted AKT for more than 2 months. All the interviewed patients had taken AKT at RNTCP DOT sites. Patient who has taken AKT from private institute were excluded. All the defaulted patients were then interviewed in details. In addition to the personal and socio-demographic data, treatment history was recorded in details along with reasons for stopping treatment.Results: Among 5235 TB patients, 405 (7.7%) were found to have a past history of AKT interruption. The highest number of treatment interrupters were in the age group 21 to 50 years (n=309), constituting nearly 76.29% of all the patients studied. The most common reason stated was AKT-induced side effects (42.2%) a feeling of early improvement (33.3%) and followed by migration for work (9.6%).Conclusions: Present study concludes that the most common cause of defaulters amongst tuberculosis patients are adverse effects, feeling of early improvement and migration.

    Seroprevalence of Respiratory Syncytial Virus among Rural Population: Insights into Infection Rates and Immune Status: Pilot Study

    Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a significant cause of respiratory tract infections, particularly affecting infants, young children, and immunocompromised individuals, with a substantial global burden of morbidity and mortality. This study aimed to assess the seroprevalence of RSV among a rural population in Karad Taluka, India, an area where RSV data is scarce due to its predominantly urban focus. Ethical approval was obtained, and written informed consent was collected from participants' parents or legal guardians Blood samples were collected from individuals aged 16 months to 5 years residing in rural areas, and IgM RSV-specific antibodies were detected to identify recent infections using SERION enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Additionally, demographic information and clinical history were collected through a structured questionnaire. The data were entered into an electronic database, and seroprevalence was calculated based on the proportion of individuals with positive serological results. The study revealed that by the age of 3 years, 81.0% of children exhibited IgM seropositivity to RSV, with a cumulative seroprevalence of 72% in the entire study population. The seroprevalence varied with age, demonstrating an ongoing RSV activity within the community, as evidenced by the high IgM positivity. However, as children grew older, a decline in IgM positivity was observed, possibly due to protective antibodies developed from previous exposures or a longer time elapsed between RSV exposure and sample collection in older children. These findings underscore the vulnerability of young infants to RSV and the need for early protection in India. It highlights the importance of considering timing and age-appropriate administration of RSV vaccines in vaccination strategies, as well as the potential limitations of maternal immunization in protecting preterm infants. Understanding RSV seroprevalence in rural areas is crucial for guiding public health interventions and resource allocation to mitigate the impact of this virus on vulnerable populations, particularly young children who are at the highest risk
