This study aimed to develop a guideline concerning the care directed toward an individual with an intestinal and/or urinary ostomy attending the Assistance Service for Ostomized Patients implemented at the Clinical Hospital of Uberlñndia UFU, in order that such individuals be provided the means of self-care and thus improve their life quality. A bibliographical survey was performed on the theme, which focused on Guidelines Based on Evidence. The development of these guidelines was based on a bibliographical survey and took as its foundation the principles of Orem’s self-care theory and the educational practices applied to pedagogy in health according to Paulo Freire's philosophy concerning liberating education, qualification and dialogue between the subject and the professional, which grants the possibility of aiding the family and patient to modify their lifestyles and be the agents of transformation, thus favoring the development of their autonomy. The printed educational material brings new information and knowledge to the ostomized patient

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the increase in the generation of solid health-care waste can be understood as a factor related to the incidence of SARS-CoV-2 cases and its impacts on society. This investigation aimed to verify the consequences of the increase in solid health-care waste as well as the response practices to the handling of these materials in times of a pandemic. A documentary analysis regarding the generation of solid health-care waste was developed at the Hospital de ClĂnicas of the Federal University of UberlĂąndia located in UberlĂąndia/Minas Gerais, Brazil. The results showed that the increase in the generation of solid health-care waste increased significantly in the hospital. The study suggests the implementation of a continuing education program for the health professionals of the institution, in order to reinforce knowledge about the management of solid health-care waste

The complete genome sequence of Chromobacterium violaceum reveals remarkable and exploitable bacterial adaptability

    Get PDF
Chromobacterium violaceum is one of millions of species of free-living microorganisms that populate the soil and water in the extant areas of tropical biodiversity around the world. Its complete genome sequence reveals (i) extensive alternative pathways for energy generation, (ii) ≈500 ORFs for transport-related proteins, (iii) complex and extensive systems for stress adaptation and motility, and (iv) wide-spread utilization of quorum sensing for control of inducible systems, all of which underpin the versatility and adaptability of the organism. The genome also contains extensive but incomplete arrays of ORFs coding for proteins associated with mammalian pathogenicity, possibly involved in the occasional but often fatal cases of human C. violaceum infection. There is, in addition, a series of previously unknown but important enzymes and secondary metabolites including paraquat-inducible proteins, drug and heavy-metal-resistance proteins, multiple chitinases, and proteins for the detoxification of xenobiotics that may have biotechnological applications

This article aims to study the inf luence and contributions of the thought of Paulo Freire in the education systems, and more specifically, the proposed public educational policy, in the Municipal of São Paulo in the period 1989 to 1992 and the Municipal of Diadema, in the period 2005 to 2008, with the aim of illustrating the theory empirically Freire. The reseach has been developed through dissertations, analysis produced located in the CAPES database. In such study case it was used the following procedures: document verification, observation on the side of the participant and interviews performed. The results of such research here presented demonstrate that a public policy proposal, popular and democratic, a Freirean perspective is characterized by a school project bold, innovative, permanently under construction, another way of doing school, because it causes a break with activities and knowledge so ingrained in the organization of school in a banking concept of education focused on the selectivity and expulsion, particularly the lower classes access to knowledge, culture, the right to “be more” finally, the right to human ethic
