Les nouvelles règles de traduction du Vatican

Après avoir rappelé brièvement l’attitude de l’Église catholique à l’égard des traductions et des traducteurs au cours de son histoire et en particulier aux ive et xvie siècles, nous examinons les principaux documents émanant du Vatican depuis 1943 afin de dégager la conception de l’Église à l’égard de la traduction. Nous analysons en détail la cinquième instruction post-conciliaire, Liturgiam authenticam (2001), véritable « traité de traduction » dans lequel Rome édicte des règles précises et contraignantes pour la traduction de la Bible et des textes liturgiques. En conclusion, nous portons un jugement critique sur la vision de la traduction qui se dégage de ce traité.After a brief look at the attitude of the Catholic Church towards translation and translators throughout history, and particularly in the 4th and 16th centuries, we will examine the key Vatican documents published since 1943, with the intention of showing the Church’s notions of translation. Particular attention will be given to the fifth post-Vatican II instruction, Liturgiam authenticam (2001), which is actually a treatise on translation, in which Rome has laid down precise and stringent rules for translating the Bible and liturgical texts. We will conclude by casting a critical eye on the conceptions (or misconceptions) of translation found in the treatise

Traduire en prison, un passe-temps carcéral, un remède contre l'intolérance

El present escrit és una exposició de diferents experiències de traducció portades a terme en un entorn de repressió accentuada, particularment en entorns carceraris. Es descriuen exemples de diferents casos, des dels més antics de l'època clàssica fins als més recents dels segles XX i XXI. A partir de l'examen d'aquests casos i recolzant en l'opinió personal dels traductors concernits, aquest treball sosté que la traducció posseeix, com una de les seves potencialitats, la capacitat d'alleujar les penes de les persones empresonades pel poder de suggestió i d'evasió que és inherent a aquesta pràctica lingüística.This paper is an exposition of different experiences of translation developed in a highly repressive environment, namely in prisons. Some samples of different cases are described, from the early classical era to the 20th and 21st centuries. After examining these cases the paper states the opinions of the concerned translators and argues that one of the attributes of translation is its ability to alleviate the hardship of prisoners because of the suggestive and evasive power that is inherent of this linguistic practice
