"What's the Use of Having a Reputation If You Can't Ruin It Every Now and Then?" Regulatory Enforcement Actions on Banks and the Structure of Loan Syndicates

A decrease in the reputation of a loan syndicate's lead arranger, caused by a regulatory enforcement action for non-compliance with laws and regulations, disincentivizes potential syndicate participants from co-financing the loan. We formally argue that in such cases, the lead arranger must increase his share of the loan in order to make the loan sufficiently attractive to potential participants. We provide strong empirical evidence to support our theoretical argument, using the full sample of enforcement actions enacted on U.S. banks from 2000 through 2010 as well as syndicated loan-level data

Study of mid and long term outcome of hip fracture in elderly operated within 48 hours versus conservative management

Background: Hip fractures are commonly associated with high morbidities and mortalities. This study aimed to determine post-hip fracture outcomes and survival among patients who underwent operation within 48 hours of fracture diagnosis and among those being treated conservatively.Methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted at the Hospital Seberang Jaya among patients diagnosed with hip fracture from January to December 2016; confirmed clinical and radiological method. Descriptive analysis was conducted using Statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 23.Results: The mean (SD) age of the 61 operated patients was 74 (7.7) years and for the 19 conservatively managed patients 79 (8.0) years. At 12 months, 30 (37.5%) of operated ones, required assisted mobility compared to 8 (10%) of conservatively managed patients. Other outcomes comparable between operated and conservative patients at 12 months post-intervention include: ability to feed on own 46 (57.5%) versus 7 (8.8%), able to dress on own, 45 (56.3%) versus 6 (7.5%); able to bathe on own; 43 (53.8%) versus 2 (2.5%), and independently attending to own toilet needs 44 (55.0%) versus 1 (1.3%). Our study revealed, overall survival were comparatively better among those operated to conservative at 12 months; 52 (85%) versus 9 (47.4%). The mortality at 12 months in the conservative group is much higher than operative group.Conclusions: Ambulatory mobility and survival are significantly better at 12 months post-fracture among the operated patients. Hip fracture must be treated as an emergency and its surgical management given priority.

Gender, credit, and firm outcomes.

Small and micro-enterprises are usually majority-owned by entrepreneurs. Using a unique sample of loan applications from such firms, we study the role of owners’ gender in bank credit decisions and post-credit-decision firm outcomes. We find that, ceteris paribus, female entrepreneurs are more prudent loan applicants than are males because they are less likely to apply for credit or to default after loan origination. The relatively more aggressive behavior of male applicants pays off, however, in terms of higher average firm performance after loan origination

The purpose of this study was to identify the characteristics of rubber farmers, to determine and analyze revenue and profit rubber production in the sample, to determine and analyze the level of income inequality rubber farmers of the people in the sample, and to identify and analyze the factors that affect smallholder rubber production in the sample. Based on these results suggested to the government should work closely with farmers in encouraging the opening of degraded land through various cooperation for optimal land use, because the land proved to have a significant influence on people's rubber production in Bungo

Potensi Penerimaan Pajak Bumi Dan Bangunan Sektor Perdesaan Dan Perkotaan Di Kabupaten Batang Hari

This research aims at looking at levels of growth, contribution, potency and projection of income from Land and Building Tax (PBB) in rural and urban sectors in Batang Hari Distric. The analysis instruments used are : growth, contribution, potency analysis and projection. Analysis result shows that the average of income growth of Land and Building Tax in rural and urban sectors since observation period is 9,67% ; and the contribution of Land and Building Tax in rural and urban sectors to Budget of Local revenue and Expenditure (APBD) is only in the average of 0,89%, meaning that it is still low. Whereas the average targetted is 59,34% of the known potency. This means that the target can be increased. Furthermore, in accordance with estimates projection result for 2014-2020 get increased. This means that the income prospect will continuonsly increase The growth of income will be better if data collection is accurately carried out every year ; human resources of this division is increased; and coordination is continuously improved

Dispersive wave runup on non-uniform shores

Historically the finite volume methods have been developed for the numerical integration of conservation laws. In this study we present some recent results on the application of such schemes to dispersive PDEs. Namely, we solve numerically a representative of Boussinesq type equations in view of important applications to the coastal hydrodynamics. Numerical results of the runup of a moderate wave onto a non-uniform beach are presented along with great lines of the employed numerical method (see D. Dutykh et al. Quantum vortices and trajectories in particle diffraction

We investigate the phenomenon of the diffraction of charged particles by thin material targets using the method of the de Broglie-Bohm quantum trajectories. The particle wave function can be modeled as a sum of two terms $\psi=\psi_{ingoing}+\psi_{outgoing}$. A thin separator exists between the domains of prevalence of the ingoing and outgoing wavefunction terms. The structure of the quantum-mechanical currents in the neighborhood of the separator implies the formation of an array of \emph{quantum vortices}. The flow structure around each vortex displays a characteristic pattern called `nodal point - X point complex'. The X point gives rise to stable and unstable manifolds. We find the scaling laws characterizing a nodal point-X point complex by a local perturbation theory around the nodal point. We then analyze the dynamical role of vortices in the emergence of the diffraction pattern. In particular, we demonstrate the abrupt deflections, along the direction of the unstable manifold, of the quantum trajectories approaching an X-point along its stable manifold. Theoretical results are compared to numerical simulations of quantum trajectories. We finally calculate the {\it times of flight} of particles following quantum trajectories from the source to detectors placed at various scattering angles $\theta$, and thereby propose an experimental test of the de Broglie - Bohm formalism.Comment: 17 pages, 7 figures, accepted by IJB
