When Schools Stay Open Late: The National Evaluation of the 21st-Century Community Learning Centers Program, Executive Summary, First Year Findings
In an era when most parents work, many Americans want their children to have access to safe and supervised after-school activities that can help develop academic, personal, and social skills. In 1994, Congress authorized the 21st-Century Community Learning Centers (21st Century) program to open np schools for broader use by their communities. In 1998, the program was refocused on supporting schools to provide school-based academic and recreational activities after school and during other times when schools were not in regular session, such as on weekends, holidays, and during summers. As an after-school program, 21st-Century grew quickly from an appropriation of 1 billion in fiscal year 2002. It now suppo1ts after-school programs in about 7,500 rural and inner-city public schools in more than 1,400 communities. Programs operate in public school buildings and offer academic, recreational, and cultural activities during after-school hours. A distinguishing characteristic of 21st-Century programs is the inclusion of academic activities. Grants made after April 1998 included a requirement that programs include academic activities
A VALUE PLATFORM ANALYSIS PERSPECTIVE ON CUSTOMER ACCESS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Customer access information technologies (CAITs) provide a link between a
firm and its customers. Firms invest in CAITs to reduce costs, increase revenues
and market share, lock in existing customers and capture new ones. These benefits,
however, are notoriously difficult to measure. This paper proposes an evaluative
method for CAlT deployment called value platform analysis, that is based on a
conceptual model drawn from the theory of retail outlet deployment in marketing
science. The model focuses on the impact of CAIT features and environmental
features on transactions generated by the CAIT. Specific econometric models are
developed for deployment. Hypotheses regarding the likely impact of automated
teller machine (ATM) location design choices and environmental features on ATM
transactions are evaluated. The results indicate that there are a number of key
features influencing ATM performance. Two distinct ATM deployment scenarios
emerge: one for servicing a bank's own customers, and another for providing
transaction services for customers for a fee.Information Systems Working Papers Serie
The Brazilian higher education evaluation model: “SINAES” sui generis?
"Available online 29 November 2017"A study applied to the context of Higher Education (HE) accreditation and evaluation in Brazil. It discusses
recent reforms within the context of the Brazilian evaluation model. The changes brought by the new resolutions published in 2016 have been presented, and a conceptual mapping of the HE evaluation model has been drawn.
The objectives were to explain, longitudinally, the ways used by monitoring agencies/bodies to assess performance, and to assure a quality HE. The research methodology used a combination of multiple qualitative
methods to present results as conceptual maps. The study may contribute to improving quality, based on best
practices in the evaluated model. The authors are grateful to the Research Center for Political Science

Telenursing is defined as "nursing practice using telecommunication technology." Practice of telenursing requires special knowledge and skills in addition to basic nursing practical skills related to information science and computer science. Therefore, we surveyed the actual situation of education on telenursing in fundamental nursing education. The data were collected from the syllabus of fundamental nursing education published on the Web. The number of occurrences of keywords related to telenursing in the syllabus that we were able to collect was calculated quantitatively. As a result, terms from the syllabus, such as "Enkaku-kango (telenursing by Japanese)" and "Telenursing" were extracted each from one university, and they were the same university. "Telemedicine" was extracted from four universities and was duplicated with one university that extracted "Enkaku-kango." "Tele-Na-Singu (telenursing by Japanese Katakana)" and "telehealth" were not extracted. There were few opportunities for learning related to telenursing in nursing fundamental education of the current nursing universities
Delivering patient decision aids on the Internet: definitions, theories, current evidence, and emerging research areas
BACKGROUND: In 2005, the International Patient Decision Aids Standards Collaboration identified twelve quality dimensions to guide assessment of patient decision aids. One dimension—the delivery of patient decision aids on the Internet—is relevant when the Internet is used to provide some or all components of a patient decision aid. Building on the original background chapter, this paper provides an updated definition for this dimension, outlines a theoretical rationale, describes current evidence, and discusses emerging research areas. METHODS: An international, multidisciplinary panel of authors examined the relevant theoretical literature and empirical evidence through 2012. RESULTS: The updated definition distinguishes Internet-delivery of patient decision aids from online health information and clinical practice guidelines. Theories in cognitive psychology, decision psychology, communication, and education support the value of Internet features for providing interactive information and deliberative support. Dissemination and implementation theories support Internet-delivery for providing the right information (rapidly updated), to the right person (tailored), at the right time (the appropriate point in the decision making process). Additional efforts are needed to integrate the theoretical rationale and empirical evidence from health technology perspectives, such as consumer health informatics, user experience design, and human-computer interaction. Despite Internet usage ranging from 74% to 85% in developed countries and 80% of users searching for health information, it is unknown how many individuals specifically seek patient decision aids on the Internet. Among the 86 randomized controlled trials in the 2011 Cochrane Collaboration’s review of patient decision aids, only four studies focused on Internet-delivery. Given the limited number of published studies, this paper particularly focused on identifying gaps in the empirical evidence base and identifying emerging areas of research. CONCLUSIONS: As of 2012, the updated theoretical rationale and emerging evidence suggest potential benefits to delivering patient decision aids on the Internet. However, additional research is needed to identify best practices and quality metrics for Internet-based development, evaluation, and dissemination, particularly in the areas of interactivity, multimedia components, socially-generated information, and implementation strategies
