Este Trabajo de Fin de Grado pretende dar a conocer la realidad del voluntariado y el desarrollo del mismo a lo largo de la historia, centrándonos (debido a la extensión del tema) en la Asociación de Voluntariado de la Universidad de Valladolid “La AVUVa”. Es de gran relevancia ser conscientes de que el espíritu solidario, la colaboración y la ayuda entre personas son consustanciales al progreso del ser humano. El voluntariado no es por tanto algo “nuevo” o “exclusivo” de nuestra civilización, sino que se puede apreciar en diversas culturas y desde tiempos muy remotos. En estas páginas pretendo pues indagar en las raíces del voluntariado con el fin de que se entienda el auge que está viviendo en la actualidad.This Final Degree Project aims to introduce the reality of volunteering and their development throughout history. Because of the extension of the theme, I focused the proyect in the AVUVA: the volunteering association of the UVa. It’s of great relevance to be aware of the solidary spirit, the collaboration and the assistance between people are consubstantial to the human progress. Volunteering is not something “new” or “exclusive” of our civilitation, it can appreciate in other cultures and since really remotes times. Seguridad y violencia de género en Navarra

A lo largo de este estudio se pretende reflexionar acerca del concepto de seguridad en general, para posteriormente abordar la violencia de género como un tipo de violencia más propio de nuestra época. Con la finalidad de construir un plan de protección, basándome en las necesidades escasamente cubiertas por parte de los cuerpos de seguridad en Navarra y las distintas instituciones que participan en el protocolo de actuación. Hasta el momento la mayoría de estudios de relevancia sobre el tema se han centrado en definir cuál es el problema y a quienes afecta, pero siguen haciendo falta tanto medidas de prevención que disminuyan considerablemente este tipo de delitos, como de protección para las víctimas y el entorno que les rodea, con el fin de sentirse respaldadas y protegidas por parte de la sociedad y de las instituciones.Throughout this study I intend to reflect on Security in general, ready to tackle gender violence as a violence more typical of our time in order to conclude showing a protection plan, based on the needs you see discovered by the security forces of Navarra and the various institutions involved in the action protocol. Bollywood-loving countries and Bollywood-inspired films: English compound adjectives in Spanish translations

P. 247-270English compound adjectives are a productive idiomatic resource used to express detailed characterisation of nouns and this is particularly so when the second item is either a present/ gerund participle (-ing) or a past participle (-ed), as illustrated in the two examples in the title of this paper. However, “compounding is not a process which all languages use. Some languages, e.g. French and Spanish have little or no compounding, while others, e.g. German and Dutch, make extensive use of compounding.” (Bybee 1985: 106). Due to the fact that compounding is not such a common word-formation process in a more analytic language such as Spanish, other types of forms need to be used in translations to express these meanings. The rhetorical structure of technical brochures: A proposal for technical writing

p. 241-245Nowadays, in many professional contexts native-speakers of Spanish are required to write technical texts in English. Texts belonging to the same genre follow certain rhetorical and phraseological conventions. The aim of this paper is to assist in the technical writing of this particular text type through a discourse analysis of their rhetorical structure. A corpus of technical brochures has been compiled and analyzed into moves and steps. Next, the most typical lexico-grammatical structures in each move and step have been extracted. The linguistic information obtained has been used to build specific software to generate technical brochures in English (GITEC).S

Glicosistemas con aplicaciones antivirales, antitumorales y en inmunoterapia a través de la interacción con lectinas

Los carbohidratos juegan un papel fundamental en numerosos procesos biológicos, tanto fisiológicos como patológicos, tales como procesos de infección, procesos moduladores de la respuesta inmune o enfermedades tumorales. En los organismos vivos, los carbohidratos se encuentran fundamentalmente en forma de glicoconjugados (glicoproteínas y glicolípidos) y son capaces de interaccionar con una gran variedad de receptores presentes en la superficie celular. La presentación multivalente de los carbohidratos permite mimetizar la disposición en la que se encuentran estas moléculas en la naturaleza, aumentando la afinidad por sus receptores celulares. Con estos sistemas multivalentes, se puede interferir en procesos de reconocimiento molecular con receptores de tipo lectina, como DC-SIGN, MR o Endo180 y modular las correspondientes respuestas inmunológicas. Siguiendo una estrategia sintética convergente se ha logrado preparar oligosacáridos de diferente naturaleza y complejidad (disacáridos, trisacáridos lineales y ramificados, pentasacáridos y nonasacáridos) derivados del ligando natural high mannose (Man9GlcNAc2) presente en la superficie de muchos patógenos como el VIH o Ébola. A partir de estas estructuras, se han sintetizado sistemas dendríticos con valencia 3, cuya afinidad por el receptor DC-SIGN ha sido evaluada. Además, se ha llevado a cabo la construcción de neoglicoproteínas, mediante la conjugación de estas estructuras dendríticas con la proteína OVA, para modular la respuesta inmune. Por otro parte, se han usado nanogeles poliméricos como plataformas de presentación multivalente. Estas estructuras mimetizan la morfología y el tamaño de los virus, poseen propiedades excepcionales, como su flexibilidad y estabilidad, que los hacen sistemas idóneos para la presentación multivalente de carbohidratos. Se ha evaluado la capacidad de interacción de los gliconanogeles sintetizados, decorados con diferentes estructuras sacarídicas, con lectinas usando como modelo la lectina de origen vegetal Concanavalina A, observándose que estas estructuras presentan un claro efecto multivalente. A su vez, se ha demostrado que estos gliconanogeles son capaces de internalizarse en células mamarias tumorales que presentan el receptor Endo180 sobreeexpresado, por lo que pueden considerarse transportadores selectivos de fármacos antitumorales hasta el tejido dañado

Describing cheese in English and Spanish: A corpus-based contrastive study

This is a corpus-based contrastive study of online cheese descriptions in English and Spanish. For global trade, English is considered the lingua franca, and Spanish dairy industries need to produce accurate descriptions of the cheeses they manufacture for commercial purposes. This paper provides native speakers of Spanish with the main rhetorical, phraseological and lexical features of this text type in English, highlighting the major differences with the same text type in Spanish. The empirical data have been extracted from a comparable corpus containing 22,834 words in English and 24,736 words in Spanish. The corpus was tagged with rhetorical labels to enable a subsequent analysis of the most common phraseological and lexical resources employed for the description of cheese in both languages. The study offers non-native writers of this subgenre in English guidelines about the structure of these texts, as well as an inventory of ready-made phraseological and lexical units

Perfectly smooth, creamy and full flavoured’: Online cheese descriptions

p. 226-232This paper presents a corpus-based analysis of online cheese descriptions in English. These texts follow specific conventions which make them recognizable as belonging to a particular subgenre. In this study we will follow Swales’ move-step method to establish the rhetorical structure, and a subsequent lexico-grammatical analysis will provide relevant information such as common phraseological and lexical suggestions for each move and step. The final aim of the study is to produce a writing tool for Spanish-speaking professionals in the dairy industry to assist them in the production of this specific text type.S
