On the driver of relativistic effects strength in Seyfert galaxies

Spectroscopy of X-ray emission lines emitted in accretion discs around supermassive black holes is one of the most powerful probes of the accretion flow physics and geometry, while also providing in principle observational constraints on the black hole spin.[...] We aim at determining the ultimate physical driver of the strength of this relativistic reprocessing feature. We first extend the hard X-ray flux-limited sample of Seyfert galaxies studied so far (FERO, de la Calle Perez et al. 2010) to obscured objects up to a column density N_H=6x10^23 atoms/cm/cm. We verify that none of the line properties depends on the AGN optical classification, as expected from the Seyfert unification scenarios. There is also no correlation between the accretion disc inclination, as derived from formal fits of the line profiles, and the optical type or host galaxy aspect angle, suggesting that the innermost regions of the accretion disc and the host galaxy plane are not aligned. [...]. Data are not sensitive enough to the detailed ionisation state of the line-emitting disc. However, the lack of dependency of the line EW on either the luminosity or the rest-frame centroid energy rules out that disc ionisation plays an important role on the EW dynamical range in Seyferts. The dynamical range of the relativistically broadened K-alpha iron line EW in nearby Seyferts appears to be mainly determined by the properties of the innermost accretion flow. We discuss several mechanisms (disc ionisation, disc truncation, aberration due to a mildly relativistic outflowing corona) which can explain this. [...] Observational data are still not in contradiction with scenarios invoking different mechanisms for the spectral complexity around the iron line, most notably the "partial covering" absorption scenario. The Modifications of the Main Façade of the Spanish Senate Palace

In the historical study of the Senate Building façades have been given the interventions taken after the Civil War (1936-1939). The first phase began around 1951, under the responsibility of the architect Ambrós Escanellas who justified the reconstruction of the façades because the plaster and renderings were in dire conditions and broken stone areas affected by frosting. According to the photographic documentation, there was a complete removing of lining facade of the Plaza de la Marina, and the dismantling of all its ornamental elements. It indicated that in the works to be performed, apply a veneer artificial stone "polished arcosite Butsems" made from portland cement according to XRD analysis carried out. It was also expanding the second floor to 1969-1974. In any case the evolution of the fronts are the result of a process to adapt the set to new uses and the currents of modernization. The South front in particular is the most documented by changes in the church of the former Augustinian monastery (1581-1601) to become Courts Salon to 1814 and later Plenary Salon

Music as soft power: the electoral use of spotify

    Get PDF
The changes brought by new technologies and the ensuing rapid development of the communication field have resulted in an increasing number of studies on politicians’ use of the internet and social media. However, while election campaigns have been the predominant research area in political communication scholarship, music has not yet been taken as an object of study alongside spectacularisation and politainment. Aside from some preliminary studies, systematic research on music in politics is scarce. The literature holds that music is a universal language. Music in politics can therefore be deemed to be an identification tool that can help politicians connect with voters and bring together positions between the different actors of international relations. This is an exploratory study about the use of music in political campaigning. It is focused on the role played by the Spotify playlists created by the main political parties in recent election campaigns in Spain. The initial hypothesis is that some of the candidates strategically selected songs to be shared with their followers. A quantitative content analysis (N = 400) of some Spotify playlists showed that there were significant differences in the selection of songs among the different political parties. This research contributes to the understanding of how Spotify has been used for electoral campaigning, as well as shedding some light on the current communication literature on music and politics

Imaging Tests for Predicting the Presence of Difficult Airway in Head and Neck Cancer Patients Undergoing Otorhinolaryngological Surgery

Patients with head and neck cancers represent a challenge for the surgical team from many points of view, but, especially, the surgical moment where greater stress generated corresponds to the perioperative management of the airway, because in many occasions we can face unexpected situations, most of the time, incidental findings can hinder ventilation and endotracheal intubation. Gutierrez et al., in 2018, decided to study four tomography measures and their correlation in anesthesia records with airway management difficulties. Material and methods: A retrospective, observational study was carried out in 104 patients operated by head and neck cancers over a period of 36 months, only in those with access to tomographic records. Four tomographic measurements were considered and were statistically related to the extreme degrees of visualization of the glottis (Cormack III–IV) and the presence of the physical examination of Mallampati III–IV. Results: After performing a multivariate model in the group of extreme degrees of visualization of the glottis, the results were not statistically significant (p > 0.05; 95% CI: 0.030–2.31: EPI/PPW, 0.018–1.37 TB/PPW). In the Mallampati III–IV group, in the multivariate model only the VC/PPW showed clinically significant results (p < 0.05; 95% CI: 0.104–8.53). Conclusions: Tomographic measurements and the physical examination predictors could represent a useful guide in the prediction of the difficult airway in these patients

Classification of wines by means of multivariate data analysis using the SPME/CGC-chromatograms of volatile aroma compounds

The solid phase microextraction (SPME) is an effective solvent-free sample preparation technique for the capillary gas chromatographic (CGC) analysis of volatile aroma compounds of wines. Using discriminant analysis based upon only two terpene compounds, it was possible to analytically discern between the varieties Riesling, Muller-Thurgau and Silvaner grown in the same region. The discrimination of these varieties was unsuccessful for wines of different vintages (1988-1995). In order to obtain a highly significant classification, it was necessary to consider further aroma components described in wine literature. The differentiation between these wines by a similar high classification rate was obtained using a set of variables selected by mathematical methods. Wines prepared from known grape varieties were qualitatively recognized by factor- and cluster-analyses as well as the relative peak intensities of the terpene compounds in the SPME-CGC chromatograms. The composition of wine blends was quantitatively determined
