El Theophrastus redivivus. Religión y poder político a mediados del siglo XVII

    Get PDF
Fil: Lasa, Carlos Daniel. A Conscious Image of Liberation: Euskadi Ta Askatasuna (ETA) in the Late Franco Regime, Through the Lens of the Press

    Get PDF
The rise of Euskadi Ta Askatasuna (ETA) in the early 1970s coincided with the rise of national liberation movements across Europe, which largely were inspired by notable examples of resistance throughout the Global South in the decades prior. ETA’s growth over this period, and in the years prior, was heavily dependent on the image created of the organziation in the local, domestic, and international press, including through documents distributed by the group itself. By comparing ETA’s external presence to the group’s internal strife, it becomes clear that ETA made efforts to align itself with the popular revolutionary language of the period. The group took advantage of, and aimed to create press spectacles, in attempts to manipulate its public image. However, the discrepancy between the group’s public image and internal dissolution became apparent as the group pursued more violent acts in the goal of Basque liberation

Particle cluster sizing in downer units: An applicable across downer scale methodology

    Get PDF
Data analysis from downer requires a comprehensive methodology for setting the data baseline. This can be accomplished using solid mass balances as proposed by A. Lanza et al (1). This analysis involves an iterative calculation. Each signal baseline is defined as, X+ n sx where X is the signal average; sx is the signal standard deviation; and “n” is a baseline parameter (2). By using this methodology the noise resulting from secondary reflection is eliminated and all valuable data is kept in the time series. More than 500 experiments with more than 50 million data record were obtained using two independent gas-solid circulating fluidized bed downer units of 3 m height and different diameters (1 inch ID and 2 inch ID). The solid used was a FCC catalyst with a mean particle diameter of 84.42 µm and a particle density of 1,722 kg/m^3. Measurements were effected using a CREC-GS-Optiprobe, an optical sensor equipped with a GRIN lens. This lens forms a 118 ± 34 µm diameter highly irradiated volume, placed at 8.05 mm away from the sensor tip. CREC-GS-Optiprobes do not require calibration and offer minimum intrusion (3). The determinants of performance in financial institutions: an application to Spanish savings banks

    Get PDF
This paper analyses the determinants of the performance of Spanish savings banks. We study whether efficiency, core capital, the delinquency ratio, liquidity, the number of branches and profitability influence the performance of these entities. We find evidence that efficiency and core capital lead to greater performance. However, the results indicate that the higher the delinquency ratio, the lower the performance will be. Entities that opened new branches uncontrollably, without an analysis of their viability and profitability, now have a network which clearly decreases their performance. Only the entities that have maintained a solid core capital can maintain their position during the financial crisis. They had greater financial strength and more ability to recognise provisions without excessively damaging their capital and, thus, their solvency

Costa Rica coffee pulp (broza) gasification. a stochiometric-chemical equilibrium model

    Get PDF
The ICAFE (Costa Rica Coffee Institute) and Universidad de Costa Rica are leading organizations researching the application of new technologies for coffee production and utilization coffee by-products. Central to this issue is the demonstration of gasification technology applicable to the coffee waste (broza and cascarilla) about 70wt% of the coffee fruit [1]. To accomplish this, the UCR has established academic collaboration since 2014 with the CREC (Chemical Reactor Engineering Centre) from Western University. The present study, describes a Stoichiometric-Chemical Equilibrium model specifically developed for simulating the gasification of coffee pulp (broza de café) in a down draft gasifier. Results of the model are compared with data from experimental runs developed in a 10 kg/h downflow gasifer unit. Please click Additional Files below to see the full abstract

Epístola moral a Fabio : fuentes y sentido

    Get PDF
This paper analyses the sources of "Fabio's moral epistole letter", focusing on both its forms and contents as well as on the range of themes and metaphorical images that made its possible the creating of this book. It is my intention to cutline a chronological spectrum going form Fernando de Herrera and Jerónimo de Lomas Cantoral until contemporary authors such as Juan de Arguijo, Francisco de Medrano and Francisco de Rioja. The main objective is to prove that, around 1610, there existed already a complex breeding ground regarding poetic meters, images and forms from which this book could appear

RADIAL DISTRIBUTION OF PARTICLE CLUSTERS IN A DOWNER REACTOR UNIT

    Get PDF
This study investigates the formation of clusters at 11 radial positions in a 2.63 cm ID downer reactor using the CREC-GS-Optiprobes. Cluster properties such as dimensions, drag coefficients and velocity across the downer unit radius are established based on the reported data and a probabilistic based model

Radial Distribution of Particle Clusters in Down Flow Reactors

    Get PDF
Particle clustering is of major importance in down flow reactors having a profound influence on some fundamental properties of the flowing suspension such as particle slip velocity. The goal of this study is to provide further evidence to support the formation of clusters using the novel CREC-GS-Optiprobes. This sensor is equipped with GRIN lenses and introduces minimum intrusion effects. Results reported include radial distributions of particle cluster size and velocity under various gas flow superficial velocities and suspension densities. Micro-scale and macro-scale flow structures are advanced on the basis of the reported data
