Ciudades en busca de riquezas, ¿competitividad, calidad o quimera?

In Europe, the urban plan is changing into a more complex legal document, and is loosing its initial purpose of "giving shape" to the city; in that way, new intervention proposals are appearing, as for example the Strategic Plans. In that way, in the present article, it is questioned if the urban planification tries to get a better quality of life, or if it tries to be useful for the economic development, being the quality of life the final consecuence. It is not answered but it deals about sorne ideas of the relation between cities and richness. So there are comments to sorne texts chosen because all of them respond to the same concept: "the cities are richer and more successful, when they are more creative"

Ciudades con atributos: conectividad, accesibilidad y movilidad

Se plantea en este artículo una crítica acerca de los sentidos de algunos conceptos habituales en el urbanismo y directamente relacionados con la correspondencia entre espacios urbanos e infraestructuras de transporte. Los autores se interesan especialmente por los significados y usos de acepciones tales como conectividad, accesibilidad y movilidad. Abriendo el debate terminológico y elucidando la perspectiva del análisis teórico, esta contribución combina unas notas sobre la movilidad urbana sostenible y el planeamiento orientado por la política de transporte urbano.In this article a critique is laid out about the senses of some habitual concepts in the urbanism and directly related to the correspondence between urban spaces and infrastructures of transport. The authors are especially interested in the meanings and uses of such meanings as connectivity, accessibility and mobility. Opening the terminological debate and elucidating the perspective of the theoretical analysis, this contribution combines a few notes on the urban sustainable mobility and the Transit-Oriented Development

Strengthening the territorial position of Valladolid through planning strategies: Networks, patterns and centralities

The urban condition of the European territory requires new approaches to explain the current development of cities and to propose new planning tools. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that we can support an innovative perspective based on intermediate geographical scales, more useful for outlining the specific features of territory. While we analyze the territory, we should overcome the strictly local scale of the administrative boundaries and create new relationship between contemporary urban concepts (metropolization of territory and metapolis) and the regional ecological patterns. In the case of Valladolid (E) urban/metropolitan area, we focus on both causes and process of city growth. We have understood that it could be inefficient for planning forgetting the real spatial configuration (the city is located in an intersection between two territorial corridors) and misunderstanding the territorial role of the city at different scales (the double centrality in the emerging urban area and in the region). The significance of this case is to reveal the inter-scalar condition of places as generators of constraints in the contemporary urban fabric and, at the same time, to show the quality and the potential of places in the future urban real

So there are comments to sorne texts chosen because all of them respond to the same concept: "the cities are richer and more successful, when they are more creative".En Europa el plan urbanístico está convirtiéndose en un documento de carácter normativo cada vez más complejo y está perdiendo su vocación inicial de "dar forma" a lo urbano, razón por la cual aparecen con fuerza otras formas de intervenir en la ciudad como son los Planes Estratégicos. A partir de ahí, en el presente artículo, se pone en tela de juicio si la planificación urbana está al servicio de la mejora de la calidad de vida de los ciudadanos o si por el contrario está al servicio del desarrollo económico, siendo la calidad de vida una consecuencia final. No llegando a resolver esta cuestión se plantean algunas ideas de la relación existente entre las ciudades y la creación de riqueza. Para ello se hace referencia a una serie de textos elegidos a partir de un mismo prejuicio: "las ciudades son más ricas y prósperas, cuando son más creativas"

Remodelación de los barrios de Pajarillos y Rondilla de Valladolid (España)

On November 2003, the Italian Associazione Nazionale Centri Storico -artistici (ANCSA) and the Comune di Gubbio, awarded the "Regeneration of 'Pajarillos' and 'Rondilla' neighbourhoods of Valladolid (Spain)” study the dinstinctive Progetto segnalato in the european section of the Premio Gubbio 2003∗. The original document, “Estudio para la remodelación de los barrios de Pajarillos y Rondilla de Valladolid” was comisioned by the Sociedad municipal de suelo y vivienda de Valladolid S.A. tp a TBA made by the University Institute for Urban Research (IUU) of the University of Valladolid and the consulting company Inzamac-Tecoy. The works were started on December 1999 and finised on October 2002. On the part of the IUU, the writing team was formed by the following people: Juan Luis de las Rivas Sanz (director of IUU), Manuel Domingo Vaquero, Antonio Hoyuela Jayo (also member of Inzamac-Tecopy) and María A. Castrillo Romón. The main researcher was Alfonso Álvarez Mora and on the elaboration of the documents for the European Prize Gubbio 2003 collabored the following interns of the IUU: María Puente Antón, Javier Zanca Pernía and Rafael González Díez.En noviembre de 2003, la Associazione Nazionale Centri Storico -artistici (ANCSA) y el Comune di Gubbio, ambos de Italia, galardonaron al estudio “Regeneration of ‘Pajarillos’ and ‘Rondilla’ neighbourhoods of Valladolid (Spain)” con el distintivo Progetto segnalato dentro de la sección europea del Premio Gubbio 2003∗.El documento original, “Estudio para la remodelación de los barrios de Pajarillos y Rondilla de Valladolid”, fue encargado por la Sociedad municipal de suelo y vivienda de Valladolid S.A. a una UTE formada por el Instituto Universitario de Urbanística de la Universidad de Valladolid y la empresa consultora Inzamac-Tecopy. Los trabajos se iniciaron en diciembre de 1999 y finalizaron en octubre del 2002.Por parte del IUU, el equipo redactor estuvo formado por las siguientes personas: Juan Luis de las Rivas Sanz (director del IUU), Manuel Domingo Vaquero, Antonio Hoyuela Jayo (miembro también de Inzamac-Tecopy) y María A. Castrillo Romón.
