Observations of Large Scale Sidereal Anisotropy in 1 and 11 TeV cosmic rays from the MINOS experiment
The MINOS Near and Far Detectors are two large, functionally-identical,
steel-scintillating sampling calorimeters located at depths of 220 mwe and 2100
mwe respectively. The detectors observe the muon component of hadronic showers
produced from cosmic ray interactions with nuclei in the earth's atmosphere.
From the arrival direction of these muons, the anisotropy in arrival direction
of the cosmic ray primaries can be determined. The MINOS Near and Far Detector
have observed anisotropy on the order of 0.1% at 1 and 11 TeV respectively. The
amplitude and phase of the first harmonic at 1 TeV are
8.21.7(stat.) and (8.912.1(stat.)), and at
11 TeV are 3.80.5(stat.) and
(27.27.2(stat.)).Comment: 32nd International Cosmic Ray Conference, August 201

Emergency conflict-related psychosocial interventions in Sierra Leone and Uganda: lessons from Médecins Sans Frontières
Médecins Sans Frontières has been involved in emergency mental health or psychosocial programmes since 1990. In this article the intervention model developed for emergency settings is shared. Psychosocial programmes distinguish two elements. The 'psycho'-component facilitates the reconnection of the affected individual to his environment. The 'socio'-element aims to create an environment that facilitates the individual to re-integrate. The nature of mental health and psychosocial programmes requires a multidisciplinary approach. Emotional support can also be provided by regular medical staff and does not always require a specialist. The years ahead of us are important for the development of psychosocial interventions. Fundamental issues such as programme evaluation need systematic research
Searching for galaxy clusters in the VST-KiDS Survey
We present the methods and first results of the search for galaxy clusters in
the Kilo Degree Survey (KiDS). The adopted algorithm and the criterium for
selecting the member galaxies are illustrated. Here we report the preliminary
results obtained over a small area (7 sq. degrees), and the comparison of our
cluster candidates with those found in the RedMapper and SZ Planck catalogues;
the analysis to a larger area (148 sq. degrees) is currently in progress. By
the KiDS cluster search, we expect to increase the completeness of the clusters
catalogue to z = 0.6-0.7 compared to RedMapper.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, to be published in the Proceedings of the

Field efficacy of new compounds to replace copper for scab control in organic apple production
Efficacy of compounds was investigated in field experiments in Denmark and the Netherlands according to EPPO guidelines. Some Yucca extracts and potassium bicarbonate had an efficacy similar to sulphur on leaves. Addition of sulphur to Yucca 1 and to potassium bicarbonate increased the level of efficacy to that of copper. This confirms results from earlier years. Although a dose increase resulted in better efficacy, this was more prominent for Yucca1 than for potassium bicarbonate
A skewer survey of the Galactic halo from deep CFHT and INT images
We study the density profile and shape of the Galactic halo using deep
multicolour images from the MENeaCS and CCCP projects, over 33 fields selected
to avoid overlap with the Galactic plane. Using multicolour selection and PSF
homogenization techniques we obtain catalogues of F stars (near-main sequence
turnoff stars) out to Galactocentric distances up to 60kpc. Grouping nearby
lines of sight, we construct the stellar density profiles through the halo in
eight different directions by means of photometric parallaxes. Smooth halo
models are then fitted to these profiles. We find clear evidence for a
steepening of the density profile power law index around R=20 kpc, from -2.50
+- 0.04 to -4.85 +- 0.04, and for a flattening of the halo towards the poles
with best-fit axis ratio 0.63 +- 0.02. Furthermore, we cannot rule out a mild
triaxiality (w>=0.8). We recover the signatures of well-known substructure and
streams that intersect our lines of sight. These results are consistent with
those derived from wider but shallower surveys, and augur well for upcoming,
wide-field surveys of comparable depth to our pencil beam surveys.Comment: 14 pages, 8 figures, 6 table
