    Shape memory alloy based smart landing gear for an airship

    The design and development of a shape memory alloy based smart landing gear for aerospace vehicles is based on a13; novel design approach. The smart landing gear comprises a landing beam, an arch, and a superelastic nickeltitanium shape memory alloy element. This design is of a generic nature and is applicable to a certain class of light13; aerospace vehicles. In this paper a specixFB01;c case of the shape memory alloy based smart landing gear design and13; development applicable to a radio controlled semirigid airship (radio controlled blimp) of 320 m3 volume is13; presented.Ajudicious combination of carbon xFB01;ber reinforced plastic for the landing beam, cane (naturally occurring13; plant product) wrapped with carbon xFB01;ber reinforced plastic for the arch, and superelastic shape memory alloy is13; used in the development. An appropriate sizing of the arch and landing beam is arrived at to meet the dual requirement of low weight and high-energy dissipation while ndergoing x201C;large elasticx201D; (large nonlinear recoverable13; elastic strain) deformations to ensure soft landings when the airship impacts the ground. The soft landing is required13; to ensure that shock and vibration are minimized (to protect the sensitive payload). The inherently large energydissipating character of the superelastic shape memory alloy element in the tensile mode of deformation and the superior elastic bounce back features of the landing gear provide the ideal solution.Anonlinear analysis based on the classical and xFB01;nite element method approach is followed to analyze the structure. Necessary experiments and tests have been conducted to check the veracity of the design. Good correlation has been found between the analyses and testing. This exercise is intended to provide an alternate method of developing an efxFB01;cient landing gear with satisfactory geometry for a x201C;certain class of light aerospace vehiclesx201D; such as airships, rotorcraft, and other light unmanned air vehicles

    An Integrative framework of buyer-supplier negative relationship quality and dysfunctional interfirm conflict

    Purpose: Problems of relationship quality and interfirm conflict in business to business settings are serious concerns that need to be addressed. Thus, the authors have engaged in an extensive review to promote an understanding of these complex issues. This paper develops an integrated framework for analyzing wide-ranging relations between individual representatives and patterns of interfirm incompatibility for managerial control. Methodology/Approach: The review involves numerous sources that include articles and monographs. A theoretical framework is constructed to integrate fragmented empirical data. In particular, social identity and commitment-trust theories are mobilized for this framework. Findings: The review of studies has a substantial consistency with the theoretical framework. The paper outlines a causal chain from interpersonal agent dissimilarities to dysfunctional buyer-supplier relations, culminating in interfirm pathological conflict. Moderating factors in the causal chain are: agent identity differentiation (for interpersonal dissimilarity), supplier relations mismanagement (for buyer-supplier relationship quality), and interfirm opportunism (for interfirm pathological conflict). Buyer-supplier interfirm incompatibility mediates the causal link between interpersonal dissimilarity and buyer-supplier relationship quality. Identity differentiation, the validation of one’s self-image, is introduced as a process that determines buyer-supplier agent interpersonal dissimilarity judgments. This framework employs a contextual perspective. It describes interactions between observations of micro-level phenomena of interpersonal dissimilarities and macro-level models of interfirm fit. From a managerial perspective, interpersonal relations between individual buyer and supplier agents may be further strengthened by such strategies as expanding the scope of the interpersonal relationship, relaxation of role responsibilities, and volunteering business-related contact referrals. Originality/Value: A new theoretical framework has been devised to predict and explain relationship quality and interfirm pathological conflict in the B to B context. The framework contributes to the value of the knowledge base by serving as a means for building new diagnostic tools for assessment of interfirm behavioral issues affecting exchanges. New concepts are introduced to enhance current literature on B to B marketing. The framework provides concrete indicators that operationally define ideas and enable or improve measurement for empirical modeling

    The human population is graying, and with it concerns about the aged have been growing. Even as birth rates fall steeply, improved healthcare systems have contributed to unprecedented longevity levels. The challenges of taking care of the elderly now increasingly face developing nations. The boundary of old age cannot be defined exactly because it does not have the same meaning in all societies. The United Nations International Assembly on Ageing has taken 60 years as the boundary to define old age.1 Globally, the number of older persons (aged 60 years or over) is expected to be more than double, from 841 million people in 2013 to more than 2 billion in 2050. Presently, about two-thirds of the world’s elderly live in developing countries. By 2050, nearly 8 in 10 of the world’s older population will live in the less developed regions.2 India, as the second most populous country, is witnessing an “aging revolution.” The major issues in India aging are: rapid growth of older segment; feminization of aging; poverty in old age; high growth of 80 + group and decline in family support base.

We also present results on the behavior of moments for the evolving distribution of PSA levels and estimate the probability of long-term treatment success and failure related to values of treatment and disease parameters. Results apply to a much wider range of parameter values than was considered in earlier studies, including parameter combinations that are patient specific

    Assessment of safety, usability and performance of sterile latex surgical glove pre-powdered of Healthium Medtech limited: a survey study based on questionnaire

    Background: Medical gloves worn during patient examinations and procedures aids in the reduction of cross-contamination between healthcare professionals and patients. Gloves have to be strong enough to protect the wearer and comfortable enough not to choke the hand of the user. The aim of the study was to assess the incidence of allergic reactions, usability, and performance of Truskin gloves (Sterile latex surgical glove pre-powdered).Methods: The objective of this study was to evaluate the safety and performance of Truskin gloves by assessing the incidence of allergic reactions and usability in terms of manual dexterity, tactile sensitivity, handgrip strength, muscle activity, comfort level during usage and product complaints/issues. Consent was obtained from all the participants (healthcare professionals from various hospitals across India) involved in the study. The questionnaire was distributed among healthcare professionals to provide their feedback and experience with use of Truskin gloves.Results: The clinical investigation was initiated on April 10, 2021 and completed on July 10, 2021. Responses from 472 participating health care professionals were considered for assessment of safety and performance of Truskin gloves. The results from the safety variables assessed in this study indicate that about 5.51% users had experienced allergic reactions typical of powdered latex surgical gloves. More than 80% users have responded with a score of 04 and 05 (most comfortable) for all the variables associated with comfort and convenience of usage of Truskin gloves.Conclusions: The results from this study demonstrates both the safety and performance of Truskin gloves

The NH group of the hydrazone moiety does not form a hydrogen bond, due to a steric crowding. In the crystal, the thio­phene ring takes part in weak π–π stacking inter­actions with the pyridine ring [centroid-to-centroid separation = 3.7553 (19) Å and inter­planar angle = 5.48 (12)°] and the benzene ring [3.7927 (19) Å and 4.58 (12)°].     Lactobacillus plantarum (VR1) isolated from an Ayurvedic medicine (Kutajarista) ameliorates in vitro cellular damage caused by Aeromonas veronii

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p><it>Lactobacillus plantarum </it>is considered as a safe and effective probiotic microorganism. Among various sources of isolation, traditionally fermented foods are considered to be rich in <it>Lactobacillus </it>spp., which can be exploited for their probiotic attribute. Antibacterial property of <it>L. plantarum </it>has been demonstrated against various enteric pathogens in both <it>in vitro </it>and <it>in vivo </it>systems. This study was aimed at characterizing <it>L. plantarum </it>isolated from Kutajarista, an ayurvedic fermented biomedicine, and assessing its antagonistic property against a common enteropathogen <it>Aeromonas veronii</it>.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>We report the isolation of <it>L. plantarum </it>(VR1) from Kutajarista, and efficacy of its cell free supernatant (CFS) in amelioration of cytotoxicity caused by <it>Aeromonas veronii</it>. On the part of probiotic attributes, VR1 was tolerant to pH 2, 0.3% bile salts and simulated gastric juice. Additionally, VR1 also exhibited adhesive property to human intestinal HT-29 cell line. Furthermore, CFS of VR1 was antibacterial to enteric pathogens like <it>Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli</it>, <it>Aeromonas veronii </it>and clinical isolates of <it>P. aeruginosa </it>and <it>E. coli</it>. Detailed study regarding the effect of VR1 CFS on <it>A. veronii </it>cytotoxicity showed a significant decrease in vacuole formation and detrimental cellular changes in Vero cells. On the other hand, <it>A. veronii </it>CFS caused disruption of tight junction proteins ZO-1 and actin in MDCK cell line, which was prevented by pre-incubation with CFS of VR1.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>This is the first study to report isolation of <it>L. plantarum </it>(VR1) from Kutajarista and characterisation for its probiotic attributes. Our study demonstrates the antagonistic property of VR1 to <it>A. veronii </it>and effect of VR1 CFS in reduction of cellular damage caused by <it>A. veronii </it>in both Vero and MDCK cell lines.</p
