    Evaluating the use of covariance-based structural equation modelling with reflective measurement in organizational and management research : a review and recommendations for best practice

    Covariance‐based structural equation modelling (CB‐SEM) with reflective measurement has been a popular data analysis tool in organizational and management research. Extensive studies and guidelines have been published on what constitutes its best practice. What is much less known is the extent to which CB‐SEM users in organizational and management research comprehend and adhere to the standards and principles behind this advanced analytical technique. In this study, we first devised an evaluation scheme to assess the quality of CB‐SEM performed in a study, and then utilized this scheme to examine 144 CB‐SEM studies published in 12 top organizational and management journals between 2011 and 2016. The evaluation of the published studies revealed a pressing need for more systematic and standardized approaches to planning, conducting and reporting CB‐SEM studies. We discussed the implication of the findings for future work

    A wide-band hybrid antenna for use in reverberation chambers

    This paper describes the design and performance of a wide-band hybrid antenna suitable for use in reverberation chambers. The antenna is characterised over the frequency range 100 MHz to 25 GHz showing that it performs well above 200 MHz although its ultimate highest operating frequency has not been established

    Variation of the cross section for e+e- --> W+H- in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model

    We study the loop-induced process e+e- --> W+H- in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). This process allows the charged Higgs boson to be produced in e+e- collisions when its mass is larger than half the center-of-mass energy, so that e+e- --> H+H- is kinematically forbidden. By scanning over the MSSM parameters subject to experimental constraints we examine the range of values possible for this cross section. We find that, in regions of parameter space where this cross section is large enough to be of interest, the contributions from supersymmetric particles typically increase the cross section by 50-100% compared to the non-supersymmetric two Higgs doublet model result. Choosing a few typical MSSM parameter sets, we show the regions in the m_{H^{\pm}}-tan(beta) plane in which at least 10 W^{\pm}H^{\mp} events would be produced at the e+e- collider for m_{H^{\pm}} >= sqrt(s)/2.     Efficient modelling of thin conducting sheets within the TLM method

    The paper describes the use of recursive filters to efficiently model the transmission through thin conducting layers in the Transmission Line Matrix (TLM) method of numerical electromagnetic modelling. The technique is applicable where the layer may be many skin-depths thick but thin compared with the mesh size. The technique is validated against an analytical solution, and improved efficiency over other methods is demonstrated. The technique is also applicable to composite layers with complex structures which are not amenable to analytical solution

    Reduction of radiated emissions from apertures in resonant enclosures by the use absorptive materials

    Preliminary results are presented which show that the radiation from non-resonant (i.e. electrically small) apertures in metallic enclosures is enhanced at the closure resonances. It is shown that the levels of radiation at resonance can be significantly reduced by the use of ferrite absorbing tiles or carbon loaded dielectric absorbers to damp the enclosure resonances. A simple equivalent circuit model has been developed which allows prediction of the effects of absorber and slot placement for first order waveguide modes. It is believed that the model can be extended to higher order mode

    AbstractThis paper reports on the outcomes of the project “Electromagnetic Monitoring of Semiconductor Ageing” funded through the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Through-life Engineering Services. The basis of the feasibility study reported in this paper is that all active devices exhibit non-linear behaviour and the behaviour of those devices will change as they age. As a result, the radiation or re-radiation of intermodulation products will change as the device ages. The goal of the project is to verify that this change in non-linear behaviour could be identified in a way that does not require modification of existing circuitry, thus allowing through-life and non-destructive monitoring of devices for signs of early deterioration. Results obtained from this work have been very encouraging and have set the scene for further development of the techniques to include degradation fingerprinting and system health monitoring

    The impact of supportive leadership on employee outcomes during organizational mergers: an organizational-level field study.

    Past merger and acquisition research has reported mixed findings on the impact of mergers on workforces. To address these ambiguities and advance merger research at the organizational level of analysis, we present a natural quasi-experiment focusing on mergers in the English National Health Service. Building on organizational support theory and conservation of resources theory, we propose that merger events represent environmental stressors, with negative implications for employees’ subjective (job satisfaction) and objective (absenteeism) outcomes. However, extending previous theorizing, we argue that by increasing their supportive leadership, midlevel management can compensate for the resource losses incurred during mergers, and in doing so, minimize the adverse impact on their workforces. We test our predictions in the context of multiple primary care trust mergers, which took place in 2006. We analyzed the annual staff surveys, combined with objective information on employee absenteeism, and compared merging organizations with nonmerging organizations before (2005) and after (2007) the mergers. As expected, employees of merging (vs. not merging) organizations showed stronger decreases in job satisfaction, and these decreases in subjective outcomes were associated with increases in absenteeism over the course of the merger process. However, consistent with our propositions, we found that increases in supportive leadership during the merger period served to mitigate these negative outcomes. Our results highlight the organizational-level implications of mergers and the role that midlevel management can play in compensating for the losses experienced during (stressful) merger events.
