    My project consisted of creating an app for my workplace (a gym in Downtown Boise). The app helps managers and employees keep track of job duties, manage time clocks, better communicate with a messaging feature, and see everyone’s scheduled days. When a user logs in, they can create a team, join a team with an access code, or simply login if they are an existing user. With an emphasis in User Experience Design, I was able to use my newly obtained knowledge and skills to create this app mockup. Although this app is simply a mockup, when pitched to my boss and coworkers, I received very positive feedback

    WAVZINE: Independent, Localized Cultural Journalism in the Digital Age

    wavzine (also called .WAV or colloquially known as “The Zine”) is a music, arts, and culture multimedia website and print periodical founded by Cal Poly students in the summer of 2020. Two years on, it was comprised of roughly 45 regular staff members and even more occasional contributors, all of whom are volunteers. Along with independently publishing articles, videos, podcasts, and art online, wavzine also organizes and hosts concerts for local bands, collaborates with local cultural events such as Shabang Music Festival and the San Luis Obispo Film Festival, and sells its own branded merchandise. To its 2,700 Instagram followers, .WAV is a finger on the pulse of everything interesting happening in and around San Luis Obispo. Since its founding almost two years ago, .WAV is showing no signs of slowing down. Without taking too much credit, I should mention here that wavzine was my idea. I didn’t build it alone, in fact I’d hesitate to assert that I was even all that important in the grand scheme of things. I acted as .WAV’s inaugural editor-in-chief from June 2020 to July 2021. It was my responsibility to oversee all the content that .WAV produced and to supervise the managers of each different department: those being the editorial content, video, and podcast teams. Occasionally, when there was a lack of content to publish, I’d write my own material. Truthfully, I don’t care for managerial work, I’m mediocre as an editor, and I loathe positions of leadership. But for the purposes of a student-run culture rag, one in which excesses of authority and egoism would be frowned upon and counterproductive, I was probably pretty good at my job. When we created .WAV, we operated on a completely volunteer-based model. Our reasoning was simple– wavzine would be a platform for people to publish material to add to their respective portfolios, so people would contribute quality content that is reflective of their career ambitions. Since its founding, there have already been alumni from the zine who’ve secured careers in the recording industry, in graphic design, in film & video, and much more. .WAV was a proof of concept. The concept being that a high quality, grassroots multimedia organization is valid in an era where corporate digital media dominates. That such an organization can not only effectively cover the community it exists in, but also support it

    A Higher-Order Method Implemented in an Unstructured Panel Code to Model Linearized Supersonic Flows

    Since their conception in the 1960s, panel codes have remained a critical tool in the design and development of air vehicles. With continued advancement in computational technologies, today\u27s codes are able to solve flow fields around arbitrary bodies more quickly and with higher fidelity than those that preceded them. Panel codes prove most useful during the conceptual design phase of an air vehicle, allowing engineers to iterate designs, and generate full solutions of the flow field around a vehicle in a matter of seconds to minutes instead of hours to days using traditional CFD methods. There have been relatively few panel codes with the capacity to solve supersonic flow fields, and there has been little recently published work done to improve upon them. This work implements supersonic potential flow methods into Cal Poly’s open source panel code, CPanel. CPanel was originally developed to solve steady, subsonic flows utilizing constant strength source and doublet panels to define the geometry, and an unstructured geometry discretization; it was later extended to include viscous vortex particle wakes and transient modeling. In this thesis, a higher-order method is implemented in CPanel for use in solving linearized supersonic flows, where a higher-order method is one that utilizes at least one singularity element whose order is higher than constant. CPanel results are verified against analytical solutions, such as the Taylor-Maccoll solution for supersonic conical flows and 2D shock-expansion theory, and the PANAIR and MARCAP supersonic panel codes. Results correlate well with the analytical solutions, and show strong agreement with the other codes

    The field of contemplative science is rapidly growing and integrating into the basic neurosciences, psychology, clinical sciences, and society-at-large. Yet the majority of current research in the contemplative sciences has been divorced from the soteriological context from which these meditative practices originate and has focused instead on clinical applications with goals of stress reduction and psychotherapeutic health. In the existing research on health outcomes of mindfulness-based clinical interventions, for example, there have been almost no attempts to scientifically investigate the goal of enlightenment. This is a serious oversight, given that such profound transformation across ethical, perceptual, emotional, and cognitive domains are taken to be the natural outcome and principle aim of mindfulness practice in the traditional Buddhist contexts from which these practices are derived. If short-term interventions as short as a few sessions are now beginning to produce neuroplastic changes, it may be that even in secular contexts, practitioners are already developing states and traits that are associated with progress toward enlightenment. In order to carefully assess the potential effects of meditative interventions it is of singular importance to ask whether enlightenment can be traced to specific neural correlates, cognition, or behavior
