Near IR diffraction-limited integral-field SINFONI spectroscopy of the Circinus galaxy
Using the adaptive optics assisted near infrared integral field spectrometer
SINFONI on the VLT, we have obtained observations of the Circinus galaxy on
parsec scales. The morphologies of the H_2(1-0)S(1) 2.12um and Br_gamma 2.17um
emission lines are only slightly different, but their velocity maps are similar
and show a gradient along the major axis of the galaxy, consistent with
rotation.Since V_rot/sigma is approximately 1 suggests that random motions are
also important, it is likely that the lines arise in a rotating spheroid or
thickened disk around the AGN. Comparing the Br_gamma flux to the stellar
continuum indicates that the star formation in this region began almost 10^8 yr
ago. We also detect the [SiVI] 1.96um,[AlIX] 2.04um and [CaVIII] 2.32um coronal
lines. In all cases we observe a broad blue wing, indicating the presence of
two or more components in the coronal line region. A correlation between the
ionisation potential and the asymmetry of the profiles was found for these high

Hydrophosphination of Activated Alkenes by a Cobalt(I) Pincer Complex
Herein we report the synthesis of three heteroleptic first-row transition metal(II) complexes containing carbazolido NNN pincer ligands and conversion to the corresponding metal(I)-carbonyl complexes via a reductive carbonylation route. These complexes are precatalysts for the hydrophosphination of activated alkenes, affording a cobalt-catalysed hydrophosphination process that solely and selectively yields the ß addition (anti-Markovnikov) product. The scope of this transformation has been investigated using a variety of activated alkenes. Isolation and characterisation of substrate-coordinated intermediates reveal available coordination sites, which provide insight into the proposed catalytic cycle
Reframing e-assessment: building professional nursing and academic attributes in a first year nursing course
This paper documents the relationships between pedagogy and e-assessment in two nursing courses offered at the University of Southern Queensland, Australia. The courses are designed to build the academic, numeracy and technological attributes student nurses need if they are to succeed at university and in the nursing profession. The paper first outlines the management systems supporting the two courses and how they intersect with the e-learning and e-assessment components of course design. These pedagogical choices are then reviewed. While there are lessons to be learnt and improvements to be made, preliminary results suggest students and staff are extremely supportive of the courses. The e-assessment is very positively received with students reporting increased confidence and competency in numeracy, as well as IT, academic, research and communication skills
Physics in the Real Universe: Time and Spacetime
The Block Universe idea, representing spacetime as a fixed whole, suggests
the flow of time is an illusion: the entire universe just is, with no special
meaning attached to the present time. This view is however based on
time-reversible microphysical laws and does not represent macro-physical
behaviour and the development of emergent complex systems, including life,
which do indeed exist in the real universe. When these are taken into account,
the unchanging block universe view of spacetime is best replaced by an evolving
block universe which extends as time evolves, with the potential of the future
continually becoming the certainty of the past. However this time evolution is

Stand More AT Work (SMArT Work): using the behaviour change wheel to develop an intervention to reduce sitting time in the workplace
Background: Sitting (sedentary behaviour) is widespread among desk-based office workers and a high level of sedentary behaviour is a risk factor for poor health. Reducing workplace sitting time is therefore an important prevention strategy. Interventions are more likely to be effective if they are theory and evidence-based. The Behaviour Change Wheel (BCW) provides a framework for intervention development. This article describes the development of the Stand More AT Work (SMArT Work) intervention, which aims to reduce sitting time among National Health Service (NHS) office-based workers in Leicester, UK. Methods: We followed the BCW guide and used the Capability, Opportunity and Motivation Behaviour (COM-B)
model to conduct focus group discussions with 39 NHS office workers. With these data we used the taxonomy of Behaviour Change Techniques (BCTv1) to identify the most appropriate strategies for facilitating behaviour change in our intervention. To identify the best method for participants to self-monitor their sitting time, a sub-group of participants (n = 31) tested a number of electronic self-monitoring devices. Results: From our BCW steps and the BCT-Taxonomy we identified 10 behaviour change strategies addressing environmental (e.g. provision of height adjustable desks,), organisational (e.g. senior management support, seminar), and individual level (e.g. face-to-face coaching session) barriers. The Darma cushion scored the highest for practicality and acceptability for self-monitoring sitting. Conclusion: The BCW guide, COM-B model and BCT-Taxonomy can be applied successfully in the context of designing a workplace intervention for reducing sitting time through standing and moving more. The intervention was developed in collaboration with office workers (a participatory approach) to ensure relevance for them and their work situation. The effectiveness of this intervention is currently being evaluated in a randomised controlled trial
Resummation of Running Coupling Effects in Semileptonic B Meson Decays and Extraction of
We present a determination of from semileptonic B decays that
includes resummation of supposedly large perturbative corrections, originating
from the running of the strong coupling. We argue that the low value of the BLM
scale found previously for inclusive decays is a manifestation of the
renormalon divergence of the perturbative series starting already in third
order. A reliable determination of from inclusive decays is possible
if one either uses a short-distance b quark mass or eliminates all unphysical
mass parameters in terms of measured observables, such that all infra-red
contributions of order cancel explicitly. We find that using the
running mass significantly reduces the perturbative
coefficients already in low orders. For a semileptonic branching ratio of
we obtain from
inclusive decays, in good agreement with the value extracted from exclusive
