    The three-tier Scottish Innovative Student Awards (SISA - https://www.sie.ac.uk/sisa/) from the Scottish Institute of Enterprise (SIE) are an awards programme that develops innovation skills in both undergraduate and postgraduate students. At the Robert Gordon University the scheme has been integrated into the School of Creative and Cultural Business through collaboration and with the accreditation of degree modules in line with level one of the programme. Students who are successful can progress onto the next levels, hence SISA provides students with the ability to: 1) recognise the innovation skills they have developed within the curriculum (level 1 Future Thinker); 2) build on these skills and apply them to societal challenges in multidisciplinary teams (level 2 Innovative Catalyst); and 3) demonstrate an intent to innovate and act (level 3 Innovative Champion). Adopting this collaborative and interdisciplinary practice within the Fashion Management curricula has supported the development of students' intrinsic competencies and values, as well as their development in expanding awareness of external environments. In applying this theory into practice, it aligns with the UK Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Education (2018), which provides guidance to help educators embed, enhance and promote enterprise across the academic curriculum. More importantly, "whole person" education is a factor of holistic curricula (Miller 2019). Adopting the SISA model acts as an enabler for "whole person" education, making a more holistic curricula. This is seen as the way forwards, where students take more responsibility for their own lifelong learning and seek to develop relevant skills sets for employment. With the growing need for collaborative practices, communication, cognitive and problem solving skills in the 4.0 professional workplace (Fuglsang Ostergaard and Graafland Norlund 2019), having external input that focuses on the "bigger picture" allows for graduates to be well-placed to thrive in their professional careers

    The aim of this workshop was to help conference attendees use a couple of tools and techniques developed by the Scottish Institute for Enterprise, which are intended to help students "pre-experience" their future and to foster students' career visions. The workshop also provided insight into how these tools and techniques engage students to develop innovation competencies, and make them resilient learners with a sense of purpose. Finally, the workshop also aimed to provide information about the Scottish Innovative Student Awards for 2020/2021

    General bounds on non-standard neutrino interactions

    We derive model-independent bounds on production and detection non-standard neutrino interactions (NSI). We find that the constraints for NSI parameters are around O(10^{-2}) to O(10^{-1}). Furthermore, we review and update the constraints on matter NSI.     Action-gradient-minimizing pseudo-orbits and almost-invariant tori

    Transport in near-integrable, but partially chaotic, 11/21 1/2 degree-of-freedom Hamiltonian systems is blocked by invariant tori and is reduced at \emph{almost}-invariant tori, both associated with the invariant tori of a neighboring integrable system. "Almost invariant" tori with rational rotation number can be defined using continuous families of periodic \emph{pseudo-orbits} to foliate the surfaces, while irrational-rotation-number tori can be defined by nesting with sequences of such rational tori. Three definitions of "pseudo-orbit," \emph{action-gradient--minimizing} (AGMin), \emph{quadratic-flux-minimizing} (QFMin) and \emph{ghost} orbits, based on variants of Hamilton's Principle, use different strategies to extremize the action as closely as possible.     Association of HLA types A1-B8-DR3 and B27 with rapid and slow progression of HIV disease

    We examined how HLA types A1-B8-DR3 and B27 were related to progression of clinical disease and rate of loss of CD4 lymphocytes in the Edinburgh City Hospital cohort of HIV-positive patients, mainly injection drug users. Patients (n = 692) were prospectively followed from 1985 through March 1994. Accurately estimated seroconversion times were determined retrospectively for a subgroup of 313 (45%). Of 262 patients (39%) who were fully or partially HLA typed, 155 (50%) had known seroconversions. Of 34 patients typed positive for A1-B8-DR3, 29 progressed to CDC stage IV, 22 to AIDS and 20 died. Twelve patients were typed positive for B27; six of these progressed to CDC stage IV, one to AIDS and none died. In a proportional hazards analysis of the 313 patients with known seroconversions, A1-B8-DR3 was significantly associated with covariate-adjusted relative risks of 3.7 (95% CI 1.9-7.2), 3.1 (1.6-6.0) and 1.9 (1.1-3.2) for progression from seroconversion to death, AIDS and CDC stage IV, respectively. Events for B27 were too rare to include B27 in analyses to death and AIDS, but B27 was significantly associated with slower progression to CDC stage IV (0.3, CI 0.1-0.9). Random effects growth curve models were used to estimate individual rates of loss of square root CD4 count and loss of CD4 percentage, for 603 and 617 patients, respectively. A1-B8-DR3 was associated with rapid loss of both markers (p=0.02 and p = 0.01, respectively); B27 was associated with slow loss of both markers (p=0.04 and p<0.005

    An Atom Laser Based on Raman Transitions

    In this paper we present an atom laser scheme using a Raman transition for the output coupling of atoms. A beam of thermal atoms (bosons) in a metastable atomic state 1>|1 > are pumped into a multimode atomic cavity. This cavity is coupled through spontaneous emission to a single mode of another cavity for the ground atomic state, 2>|2 >. Above a certain threshold pumping rate a large number of atoms, N2N_2, builds up in this single quantum state and transitions to the ground state of the cavity become enhanced by a factor (N2+1)(N_2 + 1). Atoms in this state are then coupled to the outside of the cavity with a Raman transition.     Duration of larval and pupal development stages of Aedes albopictus in natural and artificial containers

    Aedes albopictus were reared in different containers: a tree hole, a bamboo stump and an auto tire. The total times from egg hatching to adult emergence were of 19.6,27.3 and 37.5 days, respectively, according to the container. The first, second and third-instar larvae presented growth periods with highly similar durations. The fourth-instar larvae was longer than the others stages. The pupation time was longer than the fourth-instar larvae growth period. The temperature of the breeding sites studied, which was of 18&deg; C to 22&deg; C on average, was also taken into consideration. The mortality of the immature stages was analysed and compared as between the experimental groups; it was lower in the natural containers than in the discarded tire. The average wing length of adult females emerging from tree hole was significantly larger (p < 0.05) than that of those emerging from the tire.Ae. albopictus foi criado em oco de árvore, internódio de bambu e pneu de carro descartável, sob condições de campo.     Present and Future Bounds on Non-Standard Neutrino Interactions

    We consider Non-Standard neutrino Interactions (NSI), described by four-fermion operators of the form (νˉαγνβ)(fˉγf)(\bar{\nu}_{\alpha} \gamma {\nu}_{\beta}) (\bar{f} \gamma f), where ff is an electron or first generation quark. We assume these operators are generated at dimension 8\geq 8, so the related vertices involving charged leptons, obtained by an SU(2) transformation νδeδ\nu_{\delta} \to e_{\delta}, do not appear at tree level. These related vertices necessarily arise at one loop, via WW exchange. We catalogue current constraints from sin2θW\sin^2 \theta_W measurements in neutrino scattering, from atmospheric neutrino observations, from LEP, and from bounds on the related charged lepton operators. We estimate future bounds from comparing KamLAND and solar neutrino data, and from measuring sin2θW\sin^2 \theta_W at the near detector of a neutrino factory. Operators constructed with νμ\nu_\mu and νe\nu_e should not confuse the determination of oscillation parameters at a ν\nufactory, because the processes we consider are more sensitive than oscillations at the far detector.
