    Infra-Red Surface-Plasmon-Resonance technique for biological studies

    We report on a Surface-Plasmon-Resonance (SPR) technique based on Fourier -Transform - Infra - Red (FTIR) spectrometer. In contrast to the conventional surface plasmon technique, operating at a fixed wavelength and a variable angle of incidence, our setup allows the wavelength and the angle of incidence to be varied simultaneously. We explored the potential of the SPR technique in the infrared for biological studies involving aqueous solutions. Using computer simulations, we found the optimal combination of parameters (incident angle, wavelength) for performing this task. Our experiments with physiologically important glucose concentrations in water and in human plasma verified our computer simulations. Importantly, we demonstrated that the sensitivity of the SPR technique in the infrared range is not lower and in fact is even higher than that for visible light. We emphasize the advantages of infra red SPR for studying glucose and other biological molecules in living cells.Comment: 8 pages,8 figure

    On the possible influence of radon and aerosol injection on the atmosphere and ionosphere before earthquakes

    International audienceA model of the generation of pulses of local electric fields with characteristic time scales of 1?10 min is considered for atmospheric conditions above fracture regions of earthquakes. In the model, it is proposed that aerosols, increased ionization velocity and upstreaming air flows occur at night-time conditions. The pulses of local electric fields cause respective pulses of infrared emissions. But infrared emissions with time scales of 1?10 min were not observed up to now experimentally. The authors think, that the considered non-stationary field and radiation effects might be a new-type of applicable earthquake indicators and ask to perform special earth-based and satellite observations of the night-time atmosphere in seismoactive fracture regions

    For the first time in the rhinological practice the methods of evaluation of the functional state of tissues of nasal cavity that were based on registration of their electrical features-electrical resistance (impedance) and potencial were worked out. In the comparative aspect there were researched the active and the passive electrical features of the tissues of nasal cavity which healthy people and those whose disease is acute sinusitis, have. For the first time the dynamic of electrical features was studied and the most informative electrical rates for the initial diagnostic of acute sinusitis and for evaluation of the effectiveness of appointed treatment were revealed. As a result of researches a new way of noninvasive diagnostic of inflammatory diseases of paranasal sinus was worked out, approved and inserted in practice. The suggested way is simple, reliable; it has high credibility value of revealing the pathologies of paranasal sinus and evaluation of its dynamic.     Methods of identification and recognition of sonar signals reflected from the bodies with complex geometric shape have been developed and calibrated in hydroacoustic tank and at sea. Their greater noise immunity is achieved in comparison with well-known recognition methods. Comparison of these methods with wave front reversal method is given.     Morphometric Parameters of Erythrocytes in Juvenile Mandarin Ducks Aix galerkulata

    The morphometric parameters of erythrocytes in Mandarin ducks Aix galericulata have never been subjected to study even though this species is common in aviculture. The aim of this study is to investigate the morphometric parameters of erythrocytes in juvenile Mandarin ducks. A total of 1500 erythrocytes obtained from thirty Mandarin ducks were analysed. The smears of the peripheral blood were stained using Diff-Quik stain method, and the length and width of erythrocytes were measured using ImageJ program. The average length of the measured erythrocytes was 11.879 mu m. The maximal measured length of the erythrocytes was 10.O49 mu m, and the minimal measured length was 5.668 pm. The average width of the measured erythrocytes vvas 6.160 pm. The maximal measured width of the erythrocytes was 10.115 pm and the minimal measured width vvas 3.750 mu m. In conclusion, knowing morphometric parameters of Mandarin duck erythrocytes is the first step in evaluation process of erythrocytes functional state and health condition of an individual
