Rankings of strategy journals are important for authors, readers, and promotion and tenure committees. We present several rankings, based either on the number of articles that cited the journal or the per-article impact. Our analyses cover various periods between 1991 and 2006, for most of which the Strategic Management Journal was in first place and Journal of Economics & Management Strategy (JEMS) second, although JEMS ranked first in certain instances. Long Range Planning and Technology Analysis & Strategic Management also achieve a top position. Warped Supersymmetric Unification with Non-Unified Superparticle Spectrum

We present a new supersymmetric extension of the standard model. The model is constructed in warped space, with a unified bulk symmetry broken by boundary conditions on both the Planck and TeV branes. In the supersymmetric limit, the massless spectrum contains exotic colored particles along with the particle content of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). Nevertheless, the model still reproduces the MSSM prediction for gauge coupling unification and does not suffer from a proton decay problem. The exotic states acquire masses from supersymmetry breaking, making the model completely viable, but there is still the possibility that these states will be detected at the LHC. The lightest of these states is most likely A_5^XY, the fifth component of the gauge field associated with the broken unified symmetry. Because supersymmetry is broken on the SU(5)-violating TeV brane, the gaugino masses generated at the TeV scale are completely independent of one another. Money is essential for political parties and candidates. In this article, we probe the complicated relationship between money and electoral politics. Using the cases of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and British Columbia, we explore the potential for provincial political systems to serve as laboratories to examine how different regulatory regimes affect political financing. As such, this article is an exploratory analysis of the potential for the comparative study of provincial campaign finance

An Economic Analysis of Twitching Behaviour and Species Rarity

Avid birdwatchers, or ‘twitchers’, expend a considerable amount of money and time pursuing viewing experiences of rare or vagrant species. By vagrant species we mean a species found outside its normal range/distribution. To enhance our understanding of this form of behaviour, we present results from a UK survey of twitchers. First, we examine the relationship between cost and rarity based on actual viewing experiences. Our statistical results reveal that the relationship between cost and rarity is positive and very inelastic. Second, we present results from a hypothetical Best-Worst Scaling exercise examining aspects of species rarity. We find that rarity is a more nuanced construct than simply the frequency with which a vagrant species has appeared. Our results provide insights into the meaning of rarity, as well as the economic value attach to it and why

Turning up by turning over : the change of scenery effect in major league baseball

Purpose: This study examined a “change of scenery” effect on performance in major league baseball (MLB). We also tested this effect for voluntary versus involuntary employee departures, as well as employees returning to a past employer. Design/Methodology/Approach: This study uses publicly available MLB performance data from 2004 to 2015. The data comprise 712 team changes for players following two consecutive years with the same organization. Data were analyzed using MANCOVA to assess the impact of changing teams on player performance. Findings: Results indicate players with declining performance benefited significantly from a change of scenery. Following a team change, these players experienced a significant increase in their performance that remained stable through a subsequent season. The effect was not different for players who changed teams via trade and free agency and was modest for those returning to a past organization. Analysis also showed that players leaving while their performance was improving suffered a subsequent performance drop-off in the new organization. Implications: As the war for talent escalates and employees change jobs more frequently, extending our understanding of how performance can be influenced by work context may provide new insight into organization staffing policies. Originality/Value: Results extend field theory by highlighting how past performance interacts with new work contexts to influence performance. This is one of the few studies evaluating the job change-performance relationship, and perhaps the first to account for the effects of performance trends prior to exit

The economics of species extinction: An economist’s viewpoint

There is growing evidence to suggest that there is an increase in species extinction occurring globally. In this article, we briefly review the literature on the economics of species extinction, examining what is meant by extinction before explaining how economics has conceptualised this. The initial economics literature on species extinction focuses largely on renewable resources, in particular fisheries, but has subsequently evolved to cover many aspects of biodiversity across all physical scales, employing an increasing array of methodological tools. We also consider aspects of cultural and societal extinctions (e.g. local languages, local knowledge) and how this is positively correlated with loss of biodiversity, as well as an economist’s outlook on the potential to re-capture value post-extinction

Free-Flight Trajectory Simulation of the ADEPT Sounding Rocket Test Using CFD

A computational study of the Adaptive Deployable Entry and Placement Technology (ADEPT) Sounding Rocket (SR-1) Test is presented using the US3D flow solver. ADEPT SR-1 is intended, in part, to assess the dynamic stability of this entry vehicle architecture. Given that no dynamic stability data exists for the ADEPT geometry, a limited ballistic range campaign has been performed to characterize the vehicle's stability characteristics pre-flight for Mach numbers between 1.21 and 2.5. Here, this data is used to assess the accuracy of US3D's free-flight CFD capability. Computed trajectories from US3D and experimental data show that the flow solver compares well in vehicle oscillation frequency, downrange distance, and oscillatory amplitude during high Mach number flight (Mavg = 2.36). For Mach numbers below 1.5, the solver under predicts total angle-of-attack by an average of 16%, but compares well in oscillatory frequency and downrange distance. Additionally, a capability for simulating the trajectory of the flight article through the atmosphere using CFD is presented. This capability couples US3D's free-flight capability to an atmosphere model that accounts for changes in free-stream density and temperature as the vehicle descends. Two simulations for the purpose of demonstrating the capability and viability of this approach are applied to SR-1 flight article, and some unique challenges are discussed
