    Effectiveness, Medication Patterns, and Adverse Events of Traditional Chinese Herbal Patches for Osteoarthritis: A Systematic Review

    Objective. The aim of this study is to systematically evaluate the evidence whether traditional Chinese herbal patches (TCHPs) for osteoarthritis (OA) are effective and safe and analyze their medication patterns. Methods. A systematic literature search was performed using all the possible Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and keywords from January 1979 to July 2013. Both randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies were included. Estimated effects were analyzed using mean difference (MD) or relative risk (RR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) and meta-analysis. Results. 86 kinds of TCHPs were identified. RCTs and controlled clinical trials (CCTs) which were mostly of low quality favored TCHPs for local pain and dysfunction relief. TCHPs, compared with diclofenac ointment, had significant effects on global effectiveness rate (RR = 0.50; 95% CI (0.29, 0.87)). Components of formulae were mainly based on the compounds “Xiao Huo Luo Dan” (Minor collateral-freeing pill) and “Du Huo Ji Sheng Tang” (Angelicae Pubescentis and Loranthi decoction). Ten kinds of adverse events (AEs), mainly consisting of itching and/or local skin rashes, were identified after 3-4 weeks of follow-up. Conclusions. TCHPs have certain evidence in improving global effectiveness rate for OA; however, more rigorous studies are warranted to support their use

    Research on the Beibu Gulf Port Container Terminal Operation System Construction Performance Evaluation Based on the AISM-ANP

    With the continuous development of smart ports, the construction of port information systems has become the construction focus of the future development of such ports. However, the existing performance evaluation system for port information systems represents a research gap. It cannot effectively achieve specific improvement in the construction of information systems for port services and capabilities. In this paper, an evaluation index system was forged from the three perspectives of the operating level, management capability, and economic efficiency. As a first step, starting from the current situation of Beibu Gulf Port (Port B) construction, the three dimensions of the evaluation index system were determined using the scheme of literature review, questionnaire research, and fieldwork. Additionally, through adversarial interpretive structural modeling (AISM), it is concluded that the port loading and unloading operation capability and service level are the fundamental factors for measuring the construction performance of the container terminal operation system (CTOS). The results are used as input to construct an analytic network process (ANP) model to obtain the index weights. Finally, the gray clustering method (GCM) is introduced to construct a quantitative evaluation model to quantitatively evaluate the construction performance of the Port B CTOS. The quantitative benefits brought by the construction of the CTOS are finally verified. The scores of the corresponding dimensions of the port before and after the construction of the CTOS system in Beibu Gulf Port are obtained experimentally. The conclusion shows that the construction of CTOS makes the port operating level module improve the most, from 40.023 to 70.733 points; at the same time, it is found that two aspects, i.e., green security and economic benefits, in current construction are directions requiring further work in future port construction. Finally, a visualized quantitative analysis and evaluation method for the performance of smart port construction is proposed

    Development of a MD-LC-MS/MS Method to Analyze 3 Bioactive Compounds in Huoxuezhitong Rubber Patch and Application to a Pharmacokinetic Study in Rats

    Huoxuezhitong rubber patch, a well-known traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) prescription, is utilized to treat pain and inflammation. In this study, a microdialysis-ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (MD-LC-MS/MS) method was designed for the simultaneous determination of active constituents in the rubber patch, such as paeonol (Pae), eugenol (Eug), and piperine (Pip). A microdialysis probe was implanted in the subcutaneous tissue of a rat, which is intended to detect the subcutaneous concentrations of target components. Saline containing 30% ethanol acted as perfusion fluid. Analytes in the microdialysate were completely separated over an ACQITY UPLC RBEH C18 column (2.1mm×100mm, 1.7μm). The mobile phase was composed of 0.01% ammonia aqueous and acetonitrile-0.01% ammonia with gradient elution. The single-run analysis time was 10.0 minutes. The linear regression displayed good linear relationships in the ranges of 0.25–100 ng/mL for paeonol and eugenol and 0.001–5 ng/mL for piperine. The interday and intraday precision of the quality control samples exhibited relative standard deviations (RSD) Pip > Eug. The rank order of AUC0-720 and Cmax was both Eug > Pae > Pip. MRT0-∞ of Pip was higher than that of Pae and Eug. Eugenol showed a faster elimination and a shorter half-life. Paeonol showed a stronger drug reservoir function after removing the drug source

    Distribution of epilithic algae in the Xiangxi River system and their relationships with environmental factors

    The spatial pattern of epilithic algae in the Xiangxi River system was studied in relation to several environmental factors by two-way indictor species analysis (TWINSPAN), detrended correspondence analysis (DCA), and canonical correspondence analysis (CCA). Eighty-nine taxa including diatoms, green algae, and blue-green algae were observed. Diatoms were dominant, and Cocconeis placentula, Cymbella minuta, Diatoma vulgare, and Gomphonema angustatum appeared in most of sampling sites. By TWINSPAN and DCA, thirty-one sites were divided into three groups based on composition and relative richness of benthic algae. CCA indicated that SiO2, pH, total phosphorus, Ca2+, velocity, elevation, and Cl- were significant environmental factors affecting the distribution of algae communities.
