Quasinormal modes of stringy black holes
String theory is a promising candidate for a fundamental quantum theory of
all interactions including Einstein gravity. Some solutions in string theory
can be interpreted as black holes. Using the semi-analytic method and WKB
method, the quasinormal modes(QNMs)of 1+1 dimensional black hole in string
theory are studied. The QNMs of 1+3 dimensional black hole in string theory are
also calculated through numerical approach. The numerical investigation has
shown that the late time gravitational oscillation of the black hole under an
external perturbaton is dominated by certain QNMs.Comment: 2 figure
Poly[[diaquatris[μ4-(p-phenylenedioxy)diacetato]didysprosium(III)] dihydrate]
The title dysprosium coordination polymer, {[Dy2(C10H8O6)3(H2O)2]·2H2O}n, was synthesized by reacting dysprosium(III) nitrate and the flexible ligand (p-phenylenedioxy)diacetic acid under hydrothermal conditions. Each DyIII ion is coordinated by nine O atoms in a tricapped trigonal prismatic geometry. The DyO9 polyhedra form layers parallel to the bc plane. The rigid benzene rings of the anions link the layers along the a axis, forming a three-dimensional framework
Co-expression of apoptin (VP3) and antibacterial peptide cecropin B mutant (ABPS1) genes induce higher rate of apoptosis in HepG2 and A375 cell lines
The antibacterial peptide cecropin B mutant (ABPS1) gene has a broad range of antibacterial and antiproliferative properties. Apoptin (VP3), a chicken anaemia virus-encoded protein is known to induce apoptosis in human transformed cells. To explore drug combination in human tumor cells, apoptin and ABPS1 eukaryotic expression vector pIRES2-EGFP-apoptin and pIRES2-EGFP-ABPS1 were constructed and their expression effect individually and in combinations were studied in HepG2 and A375 cells. The vector pIRES2-EGFP-ABPS1 and pIRES2-EGFP-apoptin were transfected into tumor cells HepG2 and A375 by the lipofectamine-mediated DNA transfection procedure. At 48 h post transfection, the apoptotic rate obtained by flow cytometry and the morphological changes under light and scanning electron microscope of tumor cells were significant. In contrast, the microvilli on the surface of the control cells were disrupted, decreased and even disappeared. The cell membrane was injured and intracellular substances leaked out. Furthermore, our results indicate that the apoptotic rates of apoptin (27.32% in HepG2 and 9.34% in A375 cells), were higher than ABPS1 (23.79% in HepG2 and 8.33% in A375 cells). Moreover, the co-expression of Apoptin and ABPS1 showed higher apoptotic rates which were 27.66 and 10.33% in HepG2 and A375 cells respectively. However, the apoptotic rates obtained in HepG2 cells treated with apoptin and apoptin and ABPS1 together were closely similar, but, not in A375 cells. Therefore, the results of the present study showed that the combination of Apoptin and ABPS1 has synergistic effect in HepG2 and A375 cell lines.Keys words: Apoptin, ABPS1, apoptosis, co-expression, HepG2, A375
N,N′-Bis(pyridin-3-yl)terephthalamide–terephthalic acid (1/1)
In the title compound, C18H14N4O2·C8H6O4, both types of molecule lie on inversion centers. In the N,N′-bis(pyridin-3-yl)terephthalamide molecule, the pyridine ring forms a dihedral angle of 11.33 (9)° with the central benzene ring. In the crystal, N—H⋯O and O—H⋯N hydrogen bonds connect the components into a three-dimensional network
Downregulation of KLF8 expression by shRNA induces inhibition of cell proliferation in CAL27 human oral cancer cells
Objectives: KLF8 is a member of KLF transcription factors which play an important tolr in oncogenesis. It is
barely expressed in normal human epithelial cells but highly overexpressed in several types of human cancer cell
lines. In the present study, we investigate the role of KLF8 in oral cancer and the effects of KLF8 knockdown via
lentivirus mediated siRNA infection in human adenosquamos carcinoma CAL 27 cells.
Study
Design:
We developed a vector-based siRNA expression system that can induce RNAi in CAL 27 oral cancer cells. Downregulation of KLF8 was confirmed by evaluating GFP expressions, RT-PCR and western blot analysis. Finally, the effects of KLF8 downregulation were analyzed by MTT assay and colony formation assays.
Results: The expression levels of KLF8 mRNA and proteins are reduced in CAL 27 cells that transfected with 21-
nt siRNA against KLF8. Lentivirus-mediated silencing of KLF8 reduces cell proliferation and colonies number,
thereby indicating the role of KLF8 in cell proliferation and tumorigenesis.
Conclusions: These results strongly suggest that KLF8 is essential for growth of CAL 27 cancer cells. A better understanding of KLF8 function and processing may provide novel insights into the clinical therapy of oral cancer
Low-temperature thermochronometry along the Kunlun and Haiyuan Faults, NE Tibetan Plateau: Evidence for kinematic change during late-stage orogenesis
The Tibetan Plateau is a prime example of a collisional orogen with widespread strike-slip faults whose age and tectonic significance remain controversial. We present new low-temperature thermochronometry to date periods of exhumation associated with Kunlun and Haiyuan faulting, two major strike-slip faults within the northeastern margin of Tibet. Apatite and zircon (U-Th)/He and apatite fission-track ages, which record exhumation from ~2 to 6 km crustal depths, provide minimum bounds on fault timing. Results from Kunlun samples show increased exhumation rates along the western fault segment at circa 12–8 Ma with a possible earlier phase of motion from ~30–20 Ma, along the central fault segment at circa 20–15 Ma, and along the eastern fault segment at circa 8–5 Ma. Combined with previous studies, our results suggest that motion along the Haiyuan fault may have occurred as early as ~15 Ma along the western/central fault segment before initiating at least by 10–8 Ma along the eastern fault tip. We relate an ~250 km wide zone of transpressional shear to synchronous Kunlun and Haiyuan fault motion and suggest that the present-day configuration of active faults along the northeastern margin of Tibet was likely established since middle Miocene time. We interpret the onset of transpression to relate to the progressive confinement of Tibet against rigid crustal blocks to the north and expansion of crustal thickening to the east during the later stages of orogen development
